Thank you for an awesome year and a half! Thank you for putting you heart on the field on every play. You are more than welcome next year if you want to end this on your terms. I hope that wasn't the last time we saw SSS.

It's been a pleasure and honor to have SSS on the Ravens. I am truly heartsick about his injury but if he wants to come back next year, nothing could make me happier. Thank you SSS for the fire and passion you brought every play, every moment on the field. Though you have only here since last year, you have become 1 of my favorite Ravens of all time. I think so many Baltimore fans have a very special place in their hearts for you. You are right SSS, you were born to be a Raven. In fact, you have the heart and desire every Raven player should aspire to play with and you have been a great role model to the younger players. Get well SSS.

Feels bad. Even if he wanted to attempt a comeback (to go out on his own terms despite retirement), I doubt we would pick up the 3rd year of his contract. This is almost certainly the end of his career. What a shame.

"46 receptions for 670 yards and three touchdowns" And that's with missing nearly half a game twice, and a full game. So he's basically only played 6 games. That's just incredible. Not seeing him play anymore is very sad, he was a joy to watch.

Get well soon Hall of Famer. I just hope Aiken and the rest of those lily livered receivers learned some gritty lessons from that warrior-- someone is gonna have to make some meaningful catches for this team. I wonder who it's gonna be. While I ponder that question, heal up Mr. Smith Sr.

Great post, Salamander.

Thanks Grapple. One thing I don't understand is some of the negativity that a few people possess that would give them some satisfaction or pleasure out of giving a neg on a positive post. The first response I had was a neg and I have seen many posts to others with negs over the most neutral or positive of comments. I hope you mods keep tabs on those people who are excessive with negs and issue them warnings or take further actions. It seems like some people enjoy being negative or have some imagined, unexplainable vendetta. I try to undo as many unreasonable negs as I can when I think they are uncalled for or nasty in nature. There are so many great fans on this website and those occasional childish or vindictive negative people really do a disservice to the website and to all fans. No, I don't expect everyone to agree with me but I certainly don't expect a neg on non controversial or positive comments. This kind of childish behavior is unacceptable, whether directed at me or to the many other people I see given negs for no conceivable reason other than to be mean spirited.

Very saddened for Steve Smith. He's a hell of a player. I really hope he does hang up the cleats after this season though. Not because I wouldn't love to see him play some more, but because I just don't think his body can hold up playing the hard nosed style he loves to play. Best of luck to him in whatever he decides to do.

Congrats on the top 10 all time, you deserve it. We will miss seeing your anger and passion each week. Rest up, and Please re think the retirement. 1 more big season makes a good argument for a Hall of Fame Bid, You deserve that too.

This is a travesty especially considering the current WR corp with Steve out. Oh well, I guess we will find out the hard way next week. God help us!

Too many of us fans look at what this means for the team. I could care less, more importantly it should be what this means for this man. If this is the end and he retires as planned all I can say is thank you for the years I got to watch you play. Even when you were going against us there was always a level of respect for you.

Now to us as fans we hope you return. I hope the reason the coach said what he said is because you made some comment on the field like this can't end this way. No respect lost if you do retire though. I understand the meaning of family as you do and that is just another reason to respect you.
