Steve Smith Sr. The Legend

112 posts in this topic

I feel like Derrick Mason is being overlooked in some of these talks but I get it Steve Smith has been everything for this team. He's one of the greatest WRs of all time and gave us everything he had and MORE. The dudes a warrior nothing more to say but heal up SSS and GL with wherever you go from here. <3

why would we bring derrick mason into this? lol. that was out of left field..

All those people on NFL.com ragging on SSS make me sick to my stomach.

interesting, all the comments i read on the "SSS out for season" NFL.com article showed nothing but love and support for the guy, even from patriots and steelers fans.

I have loved watching every bit I could of Steve Smith with us. Really hope he doesn't go out like this as it would just be too heart breaking. You and Sizzle should hang out though and ice up.

I understand the emotion everyone is feeling--no one wants to see a HOF career end on an injury; we'd rather see him go out on his own terms.

But frankly, as callous as it sounds, I think Ozzie may just make the decision for SSS and force him into retirement, because he may just view SSS as not worth $3 mil cap hit. At 37 y.o. next season, and with less time to rehab his Achilles, there is no guarantee he will help the team. It might make sense for both parties to move on.

I hope he rehabs like a champ and comes back to play at a high level, but we'll see. It'll be an interesting off-season decision.

SSR at 75% I'd better than any wr we have on our roster. And a 3 mill cap hit for what he produces, Oz won't be able to find that anywhere else imo so I don't think this would be oz's mind set

75% seems like an optimistic number. Keep in mind the inevitable rate of decline that comes with getting older, as well as the increased recovery time for an older player. He would have about 9 months to recover and then work on getting into game shape before 2016 training camp. It can take up to a full year to rehab an achilles, depending on the severity. A lot of athletes are never the same afterwards.

As soon as it happened I had a bad feeling. The the towel over his head made me even more uneasy. I don't think SSS wants to go out like that. Honestly, I think this injury will make him want to come back even more...with a veangance. If I did watch the final SSS snap though, I am so happy to see it as a Raven. He was born to be one!

I would highly doubt he comes back. He's 37 and just suffered an injury that saps explosion from players. He was wearing down and getting injured down the stretch last year and then this year, he suffers fractures and a torn Achilles.

No players body is worth playing one more meaningless year in the grand scheme of his legacy

Stop it! While you are 100% correct, stop it! Ha. I'm gonna dream of seeing Smitty in black and purple for one more season!

I doubt it as well, but for now, we can dream.

Perhaps he will consider returning at a reduced role.

I understand what your saying but I can't imagine the heartache of a player, especially one at his level to go out like this. This is something that could bug him the rest of his life if he doesn't come back and see what he has left.

I haven't heard him talk about it. But Harbaughs press conference was confusing...

What did Harbaugh say?

Bums me out to think that he had just moved into the top ten in yards for career, and he could have certainly moved up to around 7 if healthy this season. Now, with Andre Johnson still playing this season, it's likely he gets knocked right back out of the top ten before season's end. I hope he comes back just to lock up a spot in there before he retires. He deserves it.

something along the lines you haven't see the last of him and he's not done yet...

That was all harbaugh though, remember last year ozzie had him take time away to contemplate if he wanted to return.

Harbaugh is all about self preservation when talking about smith less than 4 hours after he tore his achilles.

What did Harbaugh say?

He said, "I'm sure he'll be back...He'll come back." He later backed off and said he was referring to him becoming himself again or something like that.

I've seen Peter King offer the same report. Even though it's speculative, that's such a relief to hear. I was hoping he'd have a similar reaction to Robert Mathis, who was considering retiring after his 2014 season before tearing his Achilles and wowing to come back this year.

Shout out to SSS.

That guy is the embodiment of a TRUE Football Player. There's only a handful of those guys through each generation. He's definitely been one of my favorite players in the league the past decade.

Grit, Toughness, Fire, Intensity, Talent

True Football Player.

If he does come back, we need to send him out right(or at least a hell of a lot better than this)

It would be tough to be worse.

Lets hope this is true, JLC does have a history of swinging and missing on his "speculation".  I wouldn't trust JLC further than I can throw him.  That being said, I am a believer that Smith will return.

Agree, it is speculative, but it is a relief to hear it.  One more round for SSS!

He's honestly one of the Ravens greats. Pure and Simple. May have started out as a Panther, but I really think he was born a Raven.

I feel that if he does return next season, we need to own it up to him.
