Steve Smith Sr. The Legend

112 posts in this topic

with a torn achilles SSS has likely played his final snap. I want to take this time to praise the legend and the man that is Steve Smith Sr. Great career man. You will be missed! Greatest receiver in Ravens history. See you in the hall of fame! ;)

I doubt this'll be the last time he suits up. He isn't the kind of player to end his career like this. Even if he comes back next year and is at 50% he is good enough to be a #3. His season is over but I don't think his career is over just yet.

If i owned our stadium, i would definitely put a statue of SSS next to it! Like he said before, "he's born to be a Raven!!!! And he plays like one, too!

Saying I'll miss Agent 89 is an understatement, personified the phrase "Play like a Raven". I thought he wouldn't retire but after this injury it seems like he actually will. Hate seeing him go out like that, he deserved a deep playoff run, such a shame man. They don't make em like Steve anymore.

This is a bittersweet evening indeed. A lot of mixed emotions over here.

I think this may have happened for a reason, and somehow I also don't think he will want to go out like that. This may have been the one thing that could get him to give us one more year,.as much as I hate to say it ...this could be a blessing in disguise. I absolutely hate for it to happen this way though, And regardless of what he decides he will go out with an enormous amount of respect and dignity. I pray this wasn't the last time he sees the feild...and I hope he gets to go out on his terms.

I'm devastated for Senior. I just hope he will be able to recover from this, postpone retirement and stay true to what he said when he announced this one as the last season - that he wants to go out on his terms and not to be forced out by injury.

Take care Steve, maybe we'll get to see you more next year.

Yeah I have a hunch ( based on absolutely nothing of course ) Steve is gonna sit down with his family and talk this through.

I am pretty sure he was crying there on the field, am sure due to both pain and heart break.   I know he wants to end his career to be with his family, which I commend him for.  Its the greatest reason to retire.

But man o man.  Like this ?

Ultimately I will always say "Family first", but waiting just one more year isnt necessarily putting family second.

He may have played his last snap in football but we'll no doubt see him on the sidelines urging the rest of the team on like Ray did today. Ray never stopped today, was funny to hear.

When I first started watching the NFL (2010/11) he was one of the players that stood out straight away. I was like a kid at Christmas (understatement) when he arrived in Baltimore, t's a shame he didn't get to spend longer on the team though.

I can't even imagine that I saw SSS play for the last time. I am glad we won but so bummed out about SSS that his injury overshadows the win. I hope that SSS goes out on his own terms and will be back to go out on top. SSS is everything I love about this game and he has been the bight spot in this disappointing season. Congrats to SSS for the top 10 WR yards of all time. If SSS decides to come back next year, nothing could make me happier. If he doesn't, that's ok too. SSS gave it all he had every minute he was on the field. Forever grateful for SSS.

For an undersized WR drafted in the 3rd round, intended to be not much more than a KR/PR ... the guy had a phenomenal career. At least he was able to crack the top 10 in yards today, some comfort to be taken with that.

I really hope SSS decides to come back and play next year. That being said I am just happy we got to see him the last 2 years wearing purple and black. True Raven...

The lone bright spot to our season GONE. I can't imagine he will want to go out like this. He probably will miss a good portion of the start of next season too.

At least him and Suggsy can be achilly pals

It will be an honor to the city of Baltimore if you retire a Raven Steve! The two of you are a match made in Heaven. You do play like a Raven!

It was definitely sad to see his career end on an achilles tear.  At 36, I can't see him wanting to rehab enough to be able to come back to the field next year after already stating he'd retire so that's likely the end for him as a football player.

I look forward to his hall of fame speech in 5 years

Achilles tears are NO JOKE. Someone's his age probably can't come back from that. Add the fact that he was already contemplating retirement.

Yes.  Confirmed.   :(

Ouch.  terrible............

Didn't seem like anything that would have caused it, just like the play Suggs went down on.  Kind of makes you think an injury was already there.

The rehab process to come back from an Achilles is as tough as it gets, you have to fully commit to coming back like Suggs did a few years ago. At his age that commitment to come back would be a tough road to take ...

It looked like his ankle got tugged pretty hard.

I can only assume that can cause a tear.
