The good, bad, and really sad, Week 8 edition

Shareece Wright has really improved since the SF game. I don't think his name was called once. Harbaugh must have chewed into him like that because be believed that he was better than that game.

Defense needs to learn to force turnovers. We will consistently be at a disadvantage because of their inability to do so.

some questionable calls.

defense still gave up a big play.

overall did a much better job.

offense came through when needed and overall did a solid job.

i can only hope this was not SSS last play in the NFL.

Not gonna lie, I was actually pretty impressed with him.  On the drive where SD had to punt out of the back of the end zone, he held beautiful coverage on 3rd down.  He did exactly what he was supposed to by pushing that WR towards the sideline and limiting the areas to throw.  I saw him getting a lot of props, mostly from Harbaugh, on the sidelines after that play.

I'm not going to vent here.  I'm grateful for the win to go 2-6.  Maybe this is the beginning for the Ravens being able to stack some wins on top of one another?  Maybe it's the beginning for these receivers stepping up big time for Joe Flacco?  Maybe it is the beginning for our defense to gain more confidence to shut teams down?  Who knows?

Good game...good win!

Bye week...

Sorry for my man Steve Smith, Sr.  Unexpected end to his season!  Get well little warrior!

There has been flashes of intensity from these ravens the last two weeks.i love it, let's keep it together, ravens had a few possessions on defense that just made me smile. Chargers were really banged up, but a win is a win, let's build on it. If the afc keeps losing... You never know

Serious question. Is Aiken, Brown, Ross and Givens the worst group of starting of WR's in league history?

Only one, Givens was a draft pick. The other 3 came into the league as UDFA's.

Has there ever been a team relying on 3 UDFA's at WR before? And if Butler gets any snaps, that would make 4 UDFA's.

I don't know if that would be unprecedented or what...craziest season we've ever had.

Come to think of it, with SSS done for the year, we'll probabl promote Daniel Brown to the roster.

That would make 5 UDFA's.

Guys and gals, this is a thread to discuss the good, bad and the ugly of THIS game between the Chargers and the Ravens.  Please keep the discussion on topic and talk the draft talk to the appropriate thread as this one is not the place for that discussion.

Thanks!

Offense was nice today.  Excluding the kneel-down to end the half, we had 9 drives today, with the following results:

40.7 yards per drive

7.1 plays per drive

2.6 first downs per drive

3 minutes 18 seconds per drive off the clock

78% of drives resulted in a score!!!

NO 3 and Outs!

NO Turnovers!

3.2 points scored per drive

Every single one of those stats would rank #1 in the NFL if it were our season average, so there is essentially nothing to complain about today.  If we did that every game, we'd be the best offense in the league.

The only thing I really want to see us get better at is the red-zone TD percentage, where 50% is just not good enough.

did you see that banged up team we played? if the chargers had weddle at least...

Every team is banged up, just like we are.

They've known they wouldn't have Weddle for awhile now. Just more excuses...

Offense was nice today. Excluding the kneel-down to end the half, we had 9 drives today, with the following results:

40.7 yards per drive

2.6 first downs per drive

3 minutes 20 seconds per drive off the clock

78% of drives resulted in a score!!!

NO 3 and Outs!

50% of red zone drives resulted in a TD (I'd like to see this higher, but it's a step in the right direction for the season and it's not bad)

I believe in Trestman more and more. We need big plays still, and have to cut down of drive killing negative plays. But the offense played well (against a bad defense, but I'm still happy)

While there may not be any known names, they aren't the worst in league history....

we had some pretty terrible receivers before signing mason and drafting Clayton

Kamar Aiken really did his thing again. I just don't understand why can't he play so well when  Steve Smith is in the game. It's like Trestman just dials up plays for Steve Smith only at times.

To me just going through what i have saw so far... evaluating today... someone needs to find a replacement for hurst, we need him gone tommorow put that practice squad call up in because he has feet of cinder blocks... k.o didnt do all too bad... Zuttah once again cannot compete with stronger d-lineman is better suited for going laterally and vertically getting blocks on linebackers and safties... marshal had a pretty good game did have a couple non-marshal plays today... rick i didnt even really pay attention to, to be honest... as far as rb's go after watching last week i kinda realized what this team is lacking was a make-you-miss guy.. buck looked like he can be that guy going down the road for us... justin played fairly well  but has fell back extremely from pass pro from last year... sooner or later everyone is going to appreciate kamar, chris and jeremy did pretty well hopefully against j-ville we get pitta back... TE played pretty well today just as they did all season primarily blocking for in pass pro and in the running game... on the defensive side of the ball its good too see we came up tough in the clutch today in the 4th quarter... well except for the 2 minute drive when they pillow walked the ball to the 30 yard line... really played soft most of the game but the difference was when called on... b-will and Chris i thought could have stacked the line up pretty better... CJ once again kinda sucked in coverage... One day you guys will realize that daryl is not as athletic any more to make these tackles... I thought zach when he was in played some solid football... doom has been quietly been getting pressure all year... i thought zadarius played fairly well today as well in setting the edge... kyle made one play today and gave up about 5 of them shareece I believe can be a little more stout in the run game but overall he played fairly well... jimmy to be honest I would rather see fully healthy or just not on the field... he has not made one play this year playing in off coverage because he cannot plant off his back foot... will has put together 2 solid games coverage wise... kendrick i thought kinda stepped up today and made some really nice plays... hopefully during the bye week we can rest up and get healthy and involve some cut blocks on offense that is the key if we even have the slightest shot of getting in this year... i truly believe the playoffs started today because i believe 10-6 gets you in and 9-7 wont this year... good we have a week off so i can focus on the bulls .

I honestly think this offense is designed for the first read to be the most chance for success, when the first read isn't open, the play falls apart.  So whoever is our first read is going to get a lot of yards in this offense.

The good...

-joe Flacco- made some great throws today, what he's been able to do with who is on the field has been impressive.

-Marc trestman..I am a critic of his at times, but I think he called a very good game.

-defense finally getting off the field in a critiacal moment to give the offense a chance.

The bad-

The officials-I have serious doubts that there I not some sort of bias going on. There's just no explanation for so,e of the calls that have gone against us week in and week out.

I agree  but hopefully that changes after the bye.

Well its not like we have the same officials week in and week out... but what really pissed me off was when will slammed gordon and they called a penalty... so basically what the league is saying is play until the whistle last week when forward progress was made against cj2k while the line judge is running out on the field... but then when will slams him and makes sure he's down we get flagged...  <_< ??

And look at who Flacco has to work with. My hatred for the Bengals (specifically Dalton) grows even more when they have a performance like that earlier on today.

The good: Flacco, the offense (minus a few drives), Will Hill, and Jamie Erdahl blessing my TV screen with her presence.

The bad: run defense could be better (wasn't horrible though), pass rush (or lack there of), lack of turnovers on defense, and Marlon Brown (yet again).

The really sad: do I really need to say it?
