[News] Matt Elam Suspended One Game For Substance Abuse

66 posts in this topic

What happened to drafting "character" players? He hasn't played anywhere close to what you expect from a #1 pick. No character; not much talent. Next man up.

It can't be PED's, I don't think... Says substance abuse policy, not Performance Enhancing Drug policy

"Looked to be in line for a rebound year" Why, because he was "Making Plays" in shorts and a jersey just like our Practice Squad WR's were?

And who was it that drafted him again? I know, beating a dead horse, but I can't help it because some people still refuse to blame the real man responsible for so many bad drafts and the 1-6 record.

Weed most likely. Elam wants to have fun more than he wants to be a good football player based on his twitter, taking PED's would be the most initiative he's shown since we drafted him as bad as that sounds. Honestly that whole 2013 draft class was awful, hard to blame Ozzie/Eric for Elam when we picked dead last in the worst draft class of recent memory. I was also impressed with him at Florida, great tackler, no idea what happened to that player we saw in college.

This would be consistent with the level of effort he has displayed since the Ravens spent a 1st round pick on the young man.

Yeah just like Jeremy Butler who everyone in the media was head over heels with and didn't do squat in preseason against actual defenses. Or just like 2013 when we "liked our guys at WR" guys like Doss and Deonte Thompson who have totally fizzled out. Or how about 2014 when we "liked our guys at CB" guys like Franks and Chykie who didn't even make it a few weeks into the season.

The over confidence from the front office needs to stop, get real and stop putting blind faith in marginally talented players and expecting them to be productive contributors.

I don't understand what Elam was trying to say in his Tweet? Anyhow, Oz admit you messed up and cut ties. Usually, you don't give anyone second chances and just because you burned a first rounder on Elam doesn't mean we should keep him.

If this wasn't Oz's first round (or second or third round) draft pick, we wouldn't have kept him around this long. Oz is trying to prove that he didn't mess up when he did mess up- smells like a Tandon Doss situation. You hope, you wait, and you finally get disappointed- then you realize you could've been more productive and saved time if you had just cut your ties.

We should have taken Cyprien

Well Cyprien isn't exactly the second coming of Ed Reed. Gosh, a tear just welled up in my eye when I typed that name... ED REED!!!!

wow, some of you "fans" are really harsh!

Only because he's been such a huge disappointment. It really just feels like a wasted pick. Sorry he is making millions of dollars not to be using drugs. With that #1 pick comes a higher standard.

First round pick... and we wonder why our team is 1 - 6. Oh brother!

Point well made, but I don't think most of us are wondering why. We've seen the games.

Elam who? Oh yeah that overpaid guy who sometimes plays in the Ravens backfield. Almost forgot about him. This drug suspension will help keep his name in our minds a little longer. Maybe he's play better if he stopped using drugs.

He will not miss any games? Nothing good can come of that. He must have been surrounded by great players at Florida, because here he can't tackle, cover passes, or even take a correct angle. So I say "smoke em up, dude". Then there is Sunday......and the Ravens will rise. Oh yeah!! Their BACK.

I just watched ravens unscripted, which featured having "Mr. Automatic, Matt Stover. He said something that sums up this season.. There is alot of money sitting on that bench. I'm sure that Mr. Biscotti has to be feeling these effects of these blown draft picks. Just my opinion.

Can't believe this guy was a 1st rd pick. We've been missing a lot lately. T Walker, Myers, Taliaferro, Melvin, A Brown, Simon, M Anthony, Mellette, Upshaw, Pierce, Gradkowski, C Thompson, A Jackson, Streeter... That's a lot of picks to contribute next to nothing in the last few years. Especially those secondary guys...
