[News] How Marc Trestman Would Have Changed Last Drive

45 posts in this topic

Its so much easier looking hind-sight. Coulda-shoula-woulda. The whole team played pretty good on Monday night it jus was not meant to be.

at least he owns up to his errors. he will be ok when the fo brings in better receivers

Mark is very tentative when it comes to play calling.- DEAN PEES

Even after all that, Flacco should have thrown the ball out of the endzone and they would have had enough time for another play and it stops the clock and gives them time to get a play in. Just plain stupid. Plays like that are indicative of a 1-6 team. Would be 0-7 if Pitt had a kicker and a QB when we played them.

Trestman wanted a run play? Glad he didn't call THAT. The only problem with the play that was called was Flacco should have thrown it shorter or fired it into Crockets chest. The play was fine....the throw was bad.

Well that makes me feel a lot better.

Should've just left all that was well alone and let joe do his thing. He drove us all the way down the feild and got us some momentum and then you wanna tamper with the personell and play call.

Or Trestman, Flacco could have thrown it out the back of the endzone, stopping the clock, getting the right personnel and a better chance to throw a clean pass. Oh no that's way too much awareness for an elite guy to have.

Trestman just saying that because Harbaugh told him if he tells Joe he's wrong that he will be joining Reed, Pollard and Mason or Boldin in San Fran.

Watching the patriots play it's like you can just see how smart the cheater Tom Brady is, when he's not drinking that cheating beer he's brilliant. Flacco needs a new head coach that can shonuff break down offense with him. Flacco's inconsistency has been a consistent coach that can't help him. Take that to the bank.

can we have just one game with flacco calling the shots from beginning to end? i wonder what that would look like. I'm aware that flacco has made stupid decisions so I'm not thinking that he's incapable of making mistakes, but i trust flacco when he's in rhythm more than trestman. we don't have anything to lose so why not?

I like his honesty. And we aren't getting to much of that lately. From the team that is. Pee's also had a candid answer about Jimmy. I'd like to ask Ozzie and question and get an honest answer. Don't you feel like a fool after all the Receiver's you've drafted and still didn't pann-out ? (with exception of 1)

Finally someone being honest and transparent about mistakes and flaws. I like when people take accountability. I'd rather have a person make a mistake and own up to it than be in denial and pretend they're always right.

Thanks Marc. Hoping this year teaches us all a lesson to learn from before next year

How would he have done anything differently?----probably just did a another PA screen to Juszczyk in the flat, followed by a 3 yard dropped pass to Marlon Brown, Then sending Givens deep (other team blitz) no other route is even close to being finished so Flacco has no choice but to throw it up and let our receiver make a play, INT ballgame.

It's amazing how we can move the ball down the field in 90 seconds with a couple of minutes left but can't move the ball for most of the game. Maaaaybee we need to make some adjustments.

If Flacco is such an elite player, why did he throw a dead duck in the air when he saw that blitz coming?!

Why did he leave the game to be decided by a badly thrown jump ball, which is always a coin toss?!

Why didn't he throw it out of the end zone so he could live another play and make a bullet throw on the next play himself like truly great QBs do, rather than throw the ball in the air and have his receiver make a play for him.

I tell you why, because he is not that top tier QB we hope he is. I'm not saying we should cut him, I'm just saying we should admit that he isn't the type of team carrying QB like Brady or Rodgers are. Flacco will always need Smiths and Boldins around him who can make the catch for him, rather than making the throw himself and make the play on his own.

It's not necessarily a bad thing, we just need to accept this fact and move on accordingly. First, stop paying him like a top 5 QB. Secondly, get the receivers around him who can make plays for him, cause with SSS gone after this season and Perriman a huge question mark at best, Flacco won't even get 200 yards of passing solely on his own skills. And thirdly, just from a pure emotional and mental aspect, stop making the statement that Flacco is a cornerstone and a carrier of this team. It puts expectation in fans minds and pressure on Flacco, that he's never able to live up to on his own.

Just to make things very clear, I stress one more time. I do not think Flacco is bad, nor do I want to see him go. But I also don't want us lying to ourselves thinking Flacco can carry this team alone, like our beloved writers Mink&Co so often seem to do. And we shouldn't put ourselves in a predicament with his salary either. Flacco's salary should be cut in half, with the other half going to a play making possession WR who can make Flacco a great QB.

I hope Flacco realizes after this season that he is only as good as his receiving core is, and adjusts his contract accordingly. Then, and only then, we'll be golden.

Flacco either doesn't have the awareness or doesn't have the control over the offense to recognize blitzes and changes in coverage during his pre-snap reads, and then adjust the pass protection and plays/routes to take advantage. Either he is on the doofus scale of professional QBs, or there is yet another genius OC who won't give him the latitude in scheme to make fast adjustments.

I agree with raraavens in that Joe is making way to much money for his playing. When it is all said and done Joe had one great year. Titles & records is what he will be based on.

Blame can't be placed in just one area on this team. Players, coaches and trainers are all a part of this and I think each one plays a part in our record. Firing Pees or Trestman won't fix our problems. It may make it different but it will not fix them.

Joe isn't Tom Brady but he can get us there with a good supporting cast. Remember, we have guys playing on our team now that were scheduled for a year more training on the PS and not starting games. We've also picked up a half dozen cast offs from other teams, just to have 11 on the field so ya, it's not going to be pretty BUT, I can see where we actually have a shot at finishing this year much better than what we think right now and to get our rag tag mishmash of players to play well enough to do that says something about our coaching.

Don't give up, we'll be back on top in no time and remember, we can't win them all!

two things. 1.)I said earlier all the way back to spring training that trestman is like Cameron in that he waits until the last second to decide on a play and at times Flacco has been spinning his hand in a hurry up motion to Trestman to get a call in. I said then they need to get that fixed or tell Trestman to be better prepared. When a fan sees something like that and the team doesn't see it (or doesn't see it as a problem) and it ends up costing a game, it really is frustrating. I am not a Trestman fan by any means. 2.) Flacco has an issue with underthrowing long passes. On occasion Flacco can hit the guy, but 8 out of 10, he is going to underthrow them. I went back and looked at the tape, all the way back to him underthrowing Torrey Smith (which is why he got the PI calls)and Jacoby Jones all the time and Flacco is looking to see the receivers open before he throws. By then, the receiver is farther down the field than he can hit. You can't do that in the NFL. Receiver and QB need to be on the same page and he needs to let it fly.

I'm almost all for trying to get picks for Daryl Smith and Elvis Dumervil at this point. Both have not played well this season as of now and they are getting up in age. I would be looking at the trade deadlines for those guys. I wouldn't trade Dumervil though unless the front office makes sure Suggs is staying. We can replace one but replacing both would be almost impossible. Get some picks for them and move up in the draft when possible. At this rate we should have a top 10 pick which is good. Time to get younger and faster.

i see some fans are slowly turning on flacco. he is who he is. he needs good players around him to make him better unlike brady manning and rodgers that can win with anyone. i

i would be really surprised if brady could win with this group of receivers
