[News] Ravens Place Rookie Receiver Darren Waller On Injured Reserve

58 posts in this topic

I legitimately hate this move because instead of developing a young player with potential, we'll continue to put Marlon Brown and Kamar Aiken on the field to do a lot of nothing.  This may be why Baltimore has a horrible history with drafting WRs.  If they aren't a first or second round pick they get no real chance.

Didn't Harbaugh saying playing well on special teams will get you reps on offense/defense?  How many players were playing better than Waller?  Yet he was IR'd to make room for a backup tackle

Monroe wants to go to the bench if he is bitten by a mosquito it seems like... He is paid now, so why should he exert himself? What a bad signing from every perspective.

a ton of us including myself have posted for a couple of years for the fo to stop signing aging vets and to give the reps to the younger receivers. we got our wish this season and now the fo and all of us know what these younger receivers bring to the table and that is absolutely nothing. need a complete makeover

So Waller emerged from a competitive wide receiver list to make the 53 man roster, where is that competitive list now. Oh wait other than SSS, we have the worst WR group in the NFL, quit blowing smoke guys and try being up front with your fans!

The problem I see with our drafting of late is John's mantra of special teams ready for all players drafted. I truly believe ever since John was brought in to coach the team, he's inserted himself into the draft process that had previously been very successful. By having the front office scout players who loved special teams has diluted our talent level on offense and defense. So, given the current talent level on our roster, he needs to get off the draft room and get back to coaching the team, which unto itself is leaving a lot to be desired. Leave Ozzie and Eric alone to do what they know how to do. Bring in talented players to the RAvens. As for you John, get a handle on our coaches and coordinators. There's plenty for you to do on that front!

Unless Waller was expected to be out for weeks and weeks with this injury, then I don't get it. Perhaps the staff thinks the jury is still out on whether Brown and Aiken have future roles on this team and they still need to dominate snaps over a guy like Waller.

Waller will enter next year with virtually no experience. It seems therefore unlikely that he'll have much of a role and will appear to be on the same path as other late round receivers before him (Mallette, Streeter).

Throw in the fact that Monroe can't stay on the field and we're committed to him for the next couple years ... the future continues to look murky.

If we want to develop our young WR's we have to give them adequate snaps and packages to do so, Aiken and Brown have not been producing so why not give Waller, Ross and Givens more reps, matter of fact they need to make Marlon Brown a healthy scratch or give him ST duties only, his fall off from his rookie year to now has been atrocious.

Why not just put Perriman on IR, by the time he ever (if ever) gets on the field, he will have no experience, or be in game shape. He's been out since July, and the season's just about 1/2 over anyway.

Time to activate Daniel brown. No reason they shouldn't. Inexpierenced is no excuse. He'll learn on the field. Let Daniel play!!!!!

Why is it that so many people seem to stay hurt on the Ravens and we can't win, but on other teams they have people hurt too, but are still able to win games. I don't think a lot of Ravens pay attention to detail, like understanding to play the ball and not the player, little fundamental things that separate good from great. If we can't do the little things the big things will never come our way again, like the Superbowl, you see that's what make great teams great, they master the little things that present to them the big things!!! And if they can't master the little things why are they still on the team??? I'm just saying!!!

No kidding....why in the world are they keeping him on the roster. Why even risk it now. What's their plan?? Play him week 14 and get him hurt again???  Shelf him for the season and try a do over next year.

Where's Daniel Brown....we need more clutch catches. Steve can't do it all. Brown along with Gilmore, Boyle, and Smith will bring more play making and heart to our Offense. Just sayin'

Do you guys ever watch KO when he's in his zone? That is a Mean Aggressive Dude jack!

I see the same thing. That's why I have wanted to see what he could do at LT. I am so disappointed with Monroe that I think we should be looking at alternatives in the hope of upgrading the position. I realize that KO is injured right now, but I'd like to see him given a chance to show us if he would be better at LT than Monroe when he gets healthy again. KO played LT, I believe, all through college so it's not like it would be totally new to him. And I definitely think that Urschel is ready to step up and play well as a starter at LG. If these moves would improve our OL, it would give us an added incentive to try to keep KO after this season when his contract expires. I really believe that we need to concentrate on figuring what we do and don't have as we move forward with this season. We are rebuilding. We need to fully evaluate All our players, especially the young ones, in game time experience to see who we want to build around and who we want to let go.

This is ridiculous. The season is lost. This is the PERFECT TIME to be developing a darren waller while benching (OR CUTTING, I WOULDN'T BE OPPOSED TO CUTTING) marlon brown. Instead, waller gets IR'd in favor of some freaking tackle. Screw this. Notice that the 2 wr's who actually need development time & have unique skillsets got ir'd (waller/campagnaro) while the other 2 (a journeyman and a 6'5 wr that can't catch anymore) continue to take reps no matter what. Ridiculous.

No doubt about it they are awful at selecting and the development of WR's

Yes they should have a long time ago. I'm guessing they kept him around because there isn't squat behind him

I have a serious question, who is the strength and conditioning coach for this team... never mind, get rid of him.

I brought this up earlier in the season. Most tend to believe it's all on the players and has nothing to do with the strength and conditioning program.

Here's the problem .... there is a limit to how many guys who are holding big contracts that we can just kick to the curb, without crushing ourselves with dead money. I would expect that we already have 2 big contacts we'll be eating next year in Webb - who cannot play to the level of his contract and Pitta - who may not even be able to play, period.

Throw Monroe into the mix and we're talking > $19M in dead money ... FOR 3 GUYS! There are undoubtedly other guys we're going to want to part with to save money, so our dead money situation will be even worse than it was this year (which was really bad).

We save just over $2M by letting Monroe go ... which isn't nearly enough money to replace him with KO.

I know where you are coming from ... If we cut ties with Webb and Pitta, then Monroe is the #1 guy that we need to play up to his contract, but he needs to actually be healthy enough to be on the field to accomplish that. If he continues to be dead weight, that is going to hurt our chances of rebounding from the debacle that is 2015.
