[News] Ravens React To Questionable Referee Calls

72 posts in this topic

This was the third game the refs took a win away from the Ravens. We should be 4-3 heading to the easy part of the schedule. The refs are horrible all through the NFL, certain teams get all the calls and certain teams get bad calls. Ask the Lions. The NFL really needs a new Comish who won't stand for such incompetence.

So we have to be good enough to beat the NFL Scheduling crew, our opponents, with or without headsets and then officiating crews.

I'm so sick of this crap I may stop watching football altogether!

Still don't believe that the game is rigged i see twenty calls a week two or three from every game that decide who wins. The worst part is when there is video or photo proof that the refs blew it nothing happens well except that one ref who cost the commish money.

If I were a conspiracy theorist, I'd swear the NFL brass has it in for the black and purple this year...

It sure seems like it.    I can't keep watching this, I'm going to have a stroke or a heart attack.

We have been screwed many times this year by the Zebras, but last night was just an abomination. If the NFL does not get some quality control in the referees, the league is doomed. SO MANY games (not just Ravens) are being decided by bad calls this year - it makes it hard to watch anymore.

The calls stink. The officiating in the NFL stinks across the board this season. It really ruins the flow of the game and makes some games unwatchable. There is no denying that. However, with regards to the calls last night let me say this: Those calls were not the reason the Ravens lost. The Ravens lost because they squandered way too many opportunities, specifically in the 2nd half on offense. We could not move the ball. We could not get 1st downs. That opening drive in the 2nd half when we could have driven the ball down and made it a game was a quick 3 and out and just looked awful. Does the coaching staff realize that if you open a drive with the same play every opening drive, i.e., a flare pass to the FB, that play is on tape and studied by the opponent? Even Tirico called it on the ESPN broadcast, "Hey, that's the same play the Ravens ran to open the 3rd quarter last week!" It's brutal to watch. Joe missed a sure TD in the 1st half with another underthrown ball, we seemed to abandon the run when Forsett and Buck looked pretty good in the 1st half. We were down by 4, not 24. And Justin gets only 12 carries? The D played OK and had some good moments, but once again bad penalties and the inability to cover AND tackle just killed any chance we had to win the game. I think Joe put it appropriately in his post-game press conference..."We probably didn't play well enough to win the game." Exactly. Of note - We needed a pass rusher when Suggs went down. We picked up Jason Babin. That experiment lasted 2 or 3 weeks. Then we cut him. The Cardinals signed Dwight Freeney. And he came into the game late and killed us. Love the talent evaluation, or lack thereof, in Bmore.

Think Freeney came with a higher price tag, but damn, I was yelling the same thing last night. We had a chance to get him and passed - didn't even bring him in for a look.

They had a huge break on the last drive, Boyle was split to the left and unblocked, an easy td if Flacco and he communicated. He then ran inward , no Td and a flag was called on the o-line, upsetting.

Boyle has been playing great. For a "blocking" TE, he's been making some really good catches. We should be running 2 TE sets almost every play, would give Joe more protection, too.

These refs are awful. Not just one game, but the entire season. The rule book is so slanted towards the offense with unrealistic defensive penalties that could be called on virtually every play. And because the penalties could be called on every play it becomes a decision by the refs of when to call the penalties or who to call them on. Usually they choose the 1st quarter, but some crews will litter them throughout the game. Brandon Williams actually released Chris Johnson after progress was stopped and the play appeared to be over. And of course, "the rule book" has no answer for that play other than it is not reviewable. I got a kick out of Teryl Austin justifying the refs call on MNF instead of correcting the mistake. Go figure. The NFL as a viewing product is going downhill based on the offensive minded focus, likely driven by the belief that Fantasy Football get more viewers to tune in each week.

Sure, there is a long list of self imposed reasons contributing to the loss. However, the bad calls by the refs were huge and game changing. As many shortcomings as this team has, the Ravens may have played well enough to have gotten the win if those horrendously bad calls did not occur. Sure, we are not a very good team right now so incompetent officiating is the 1 factor they cannot control, overcome or currently compensate for or absorb. I just hate to see unaccountable refs ruin this game and interject bad calls which can notoriously put the nail in the coffin. Refs are too often involved in game altering shoddy calls throughout the league. I hate bad calls, whether it be the Ravens or another team I am watching. The league has done too little to insure the quality and consistency of the refs who can determine outcomes when they botch calls over and over again.

Worst officiated game I've ever seen. Refs weren't calling ANYTHING on the Cards all night, but called everything they could possibly muster against us, and then all the calls mentioned in this article. An egregious one for me is that Tony Jefferson CLEARLY pushed Crockett Gillmore in the back for a defensive pass interference, and never would have caught that interception if not for that, and these useless refs didn't throw the flag! On the game-sealing play, obvious pass interference, and they just let it happen? I feel like the fix was in on this game, everything the refs could possibly do to ensure the Cardinals get the win was done. It was absurd.

How frustrating is it when you try to pull a trick, do it clean, the refs kill your drive. If it is Billy Boy ... no flags .. he's just a genius.

I knew they weren't going to overturn. It is too easy to just say, "stands" ... cause I just couldn't get a clear enough view of the play on film.

I guarantee - if one of our defenders hits Johnson while he's sitting on Williams, out come the flags for "unnecessary roughness"

I'm going to venture a guess as to what happened with the Urschel situation. It's only a guess. I guess that the ref was communicating on the referee's wireless channel and even though it looked like the ref was looking right at Urschel as Urschel flagged the ref to report that he was eligible, he probably didn't even see it, as he was talking on that stupid channel. The ref did say something, but I'll bet it was to other officials thru that channel.

Oh come on, who doesn't think the NFL refs are paid to manage outcomes? Been like this for years, but now high gear. Did the backroom cabal decide this would not be Raven's year? Might want to stop watching.

refs definitely knew that they blew a bunch of calls against the ravens in the first half, they started giving us make-up calls like the holding penalty on Gresham that wasn't even close. Like most fans on here I hate to say the refs lost us this game but in a league where the margin of error is so small, they made two gamechanging mistakes that cost the ravens two scores... Its just seems like this year was meant to happen... We will turn it around next year, I have faith

Story of our season, if it's not one thing it's another. It's sad when every single time we make a nice play the only thing that goes through your mind is " man I hope there's no flags " or " alright where's the flag this time..." ...it shouldn't be like that. Not only that but it's like they've got it completely backwards and when there's a blatant call to make that's plain as day they fail to See it. Ofcourse when you see the flag thrown after a big play from the other team it gets mysteriously picked up.

It may seem like sour grapes and it's really no excuse- but it certainly doesn't help.

You could say the holding call was sort of a make-up. What I think it is more like is they do seem to enjoy making a game out of things. Very often you'll see the team that is trying desperately to get back in the game get some assistance from the refs.

Hey - need to keep the viewers tuned in and the more exciting finishes in the league the better. They seemed to want to let us get the ball back and then see what happens.
