Dwight Freeney

Yes. I put down a few posts about the hopes of us signing him. Doesn't matter much at this point, however.

Didn't we kind of expect this to happen? Lol

Nothing has gone our way this season. This is another example.

Our hindsight is the organizations whiff, lol

Ozzie should be ashamed of the roster he's put together. Biscoitti should be p/o'ed about the moves his general manager has elected to make. I keep saying that his old school way of doing business is not in keeping with today's NFL. Sad.

I agree. Nickle and dimeing on skill positions that are of necessity doesn't work and it's being proven rightnow

He might have wanted too much money. And maybe Ozzie realized he couldn't save us from this level dumpster fire. It's likes they're pouring oil on it...

He was. The reason we went with Babin though was because he had been in camp with a team and was more game ready (even though it took 2 weeks to get on the field). Freeney was my top choice, but hindsight is also 20/20.

Nobodys saying he would have been a savior but he would have been much more valuable than Babin was.  Besides his sack, he put constant pressure on Flacko all game long.

not really lol.

he had 1 sack and that's about it.

there is 0 guaranteed he would be of any factor here.

he is an even worse liability against the run then doom and we would be pretty much rushing 4 all day if he was here since he is just as 1 dimensional.

on top of that he would probably only see those snaps on 3rd and long.

we rarely are in 3rd and long....

Really, he put plenty of pressure on Flacko.  Did you watch the game?  There are no guarantees, there are no saviours.  All I'm saying is in this one game alone, he has done more than Babin did.  Talk about a liability,  Babin blew a game late with a dumb penalty lining up offsides LOL.  He never played again after that !

Freeny is certainly a liability against the run, and it's fair to wonder how much of a factor he'd be on the roster. This likely wouldn't be a topic of conversation if Jason Babin didn't bomb during his short stint. That being said, he had at least a couple of pressures tonight by my count so he deserves credit there. It hurts to make the following comment after watching Dumervil's dubious missed attempt on Chris Johnson's TD, but Dumervil hasn't been a liability in the running game otherwise. The facet has also been one of our strongest thus far, so adding a player who isn't an asset in run defense but can rush the passer would've been far from a back breaker. It's easy to make assessments in hindsight, and it's not positive habit to practice. But I feel that he would've likely seen roughly 20 snaps per game on our roster with reasonably effective production, a solid gain for a veteran minimum. The discussion is all for naught at this point.

I'm not sure it's really hindsight, however, since I know you guys and I all wanted Freeney when he was available over Babin and we sign Babin. I'm not trying to be that guy, but I'm seriously questioning some of our evaluators here.

It's also not exactly a fair comparison since they have the secondary they do and he was going against Hurst at LT, who makes wet garbage look good in Mordor while bathing in fire. Freeney can get coverage sacks easier with that secondary.

In Dumervil's defense, it was Brynden Trawick who got straight trucked by CJ2K on that counter run. Dumervil missed an arm tackle, but Trawick bounced off of Chris Johnson like he was made out of rubber.

It's getting to the point that I get legitimately nervous every time we seem to have an RB cornered for a loss and he changes direction. The lack of overall team speed in the front seven (starters and backups) and our constant over-pursuit on the edge really make me long for the good ol' days (when JJ or Suggs would stay at home, wrap up, and wait for Ngata, Ray and ER to gang-tackle the runner).

Ahh, nostalgia...

Questionable front office moves for some time now. They're still living off the glory and reputation of yester-year. Forsett was essentially an accident, our front office didn't even want him until Kubiak banged his fist on the table for him and Daniels. The only good player we've got in FA recently that the front office actually wanted was Will Hill.

The guys our front office actually went after in FA have been such gems as:

Kendrick "So am I a Linebacker?" Lewis

Kyle "Where am I?" Arrington

Shareece "Cement Shoes" Wright

Jason "The Invisible Man" Babin

Matt "Pick 6" Schaub

Michael "What is Football?" Huff

Marcus "The Blob" Spears

Dallas "Hands of Stone" Clark

Brandon "Retirement Home" Stokley

What about Daryl Smith, James Ihedigbo, Lawrence Guy,  Doom, Chris Canty, Darian Stewalt(had his moments but was rated top-30 safety among 87 qualifiers in Pro Football Focus' in  2014)  and recently Jeremy Ross. Lets clear some other stuff up as well Dallas Clark and Brandon Stokley was only signed to the team after Dennis Pitta injury and their  young receivers not living up to expectations like hoped. Wright was only signed to the team because The Ravens lost Will Davis too injuries whom was actually starting to look like  a steal of trade before he went down.

There really wasn't no other cornerback out there in free agency that would have been better at the time after The Ravens lost Will Davis.

It did not help that after the game that the Carson Palmer stated how much of a veteran locker room presence he has been coaching up their young defense.

Lol when we signed babin i was thinking if we're talking for pure pass rush why not take freeney he's lost a step but still can get some pressures in limited snaps which is what we needed and wanted following Suggs injury. Then when babin didn't even suit up at first I was really pissed off lol.

Now not so much... Because our secondary is so abysmal we would have needed Freeney from his young colts days lol.

Honestly I'm more annoyed that we didn't give Stephon Diggs and shot and he's really growing with the Vikings.

Add Steve Smith in there as well, who had his pick of the litter from a quite a few teams.

Pretty much my exact thoughts

Valid. I probably shouldn't have used the hindsight phrase. I do understand why they opted for Babin though. He was my 2nd choice after Freeney.

Forsett and SSS weren't too bad. But I agree, our FO has regressed. We need to strike gold @FA/draft next year Edited by Ravenseconbeast
