The Good, the bad and the ugly vs Cardinals

327 posts in this topic

I haven't read this entire thread and I typically don't criticize Trestman due to the offensive talent, but we ran one play/formation so many times it actually made me yell at the tv.  The play where the WR (Ross each time I think) motions from one side to the other and Joe snaps the ball in time to make it seem like it could be a handoff to Ross only to handoff to Forsett who ran a left dive.  I swear we did that exact thing 4-5 times in the first half for a yard or two each time and then on the 5th or 6th, actually handed it off to the WR (Givens this time) who lost a ton of yards.  Then for ish and giggles, ran it another time to the right side with Allen which actually gained big yards.

That was the most annoying thing to see.

The ineligible player penalty was a joke also.  Urschel signaled so long that the defense shouldn't have even fell for it and the ref looked right at him.

And they fail to mention that he was getting pushed by the receiver as well..  That call was ticky tack... and could have gone either way on either guy.

Sick of the headset problems too...  and Yes, something has to be done about the officiating.  We are becoming the WWE and the NBA.  The refs are controlling these games way too much.

Flacco did all he could do , Gilmore is a stud in the making he's still pretty raw catching and running routes dont forget , The line is one of if not the worst in the league , Why isnt Asa Jackson playing on defense ? , Juice and Givens need to be utilized more, The Defense needs work on fundamentals period cough pees , Webb made a hell of a play that wasnt PI but hey when your 1-5 your not gonna get any calls on the road especially

I honestly didn't think we looked all that bad last night.  The guys were playing hard.  The offense was having little problems moving the ball (when Brown wasn't dropping them); who actually caught one or two anyway...  Even the defense looked like it was playing with heart last night...  and against the Cardinals.  Everyone was laughing pregame and expected to get a blowout.    I actually was glad we  made it a game.

We need to use Givens more.  I don't understand that one.

i'm ashamed i missed the entire game. i completely forgot about it until this morning, too distracted by personal plans for the week.

what's strange yet unsurprising is that the game yet again came down to the last drive...

it's as if that's been the game plan all year: make it interesting but lose in the end, GO!

There were a few calls that truly irritated me in this game: 1) the Urshel ineligible WR not reporting call was complete trash, took away a reasonable gain on first down, moved us back 5 yards instead basically killed that drive. 2) Webb PI vs Fitzgerald inside goal line was solid defense IMO.

3) Chris Johnson run was utter nonsense lol. I mean his forward progress was 100% stopped, he's sitting on Brandon Williams stomach with Williams cradling him like a child. Every player from both teams then stops, he lets Johnson go, Johnson didn't break free with a struggle lol. Then he starts running. And then some idiot used to be official tries to explain to Mike Tirico why it was correct ( and he says you see his legs a churning ). I'm like what is this guy seeing in super slow-motion trying to jusitify that terrible call.

Then Tirico and gruden reached even further trying to compare it to Mike Dyer with Auburn. That was a more of roll over bang bang play than this one.

I bet if one of the other Ravens had wiped him out while sitting on Williams it would have been a PI hitting a defenseless Player. Smh

Givens torched Mathieu that should have been about a 35-yard touchdown but Joe under threw him.  I think Givens should be the #2 receiver behind SSS.  He has starting experience and has shown the ability to get open, Ross is another example of that too.  I like Trestman's playcalling for the most part last night, but he had a few bonehead play calls like most games.  Butler needs to take Brown's spot for next weeks game, Brown should be cut during the bye week.

The defense played quite well for the most part, Ross fumbling that punt put them in a bad spot.  In the first quarter Palmer went to John Brown 2 or 3 straight throws for first downs while Jimmy was playing 8-10 yards off and I thought it was going to be another long game.  Thankfully Jimmy was pressing Brown and Floyd throughout the night and made it difficult for them.  Webb played well and really closed well on a few throws.

You nailed it, those calls were outrageous. The Webb/Fitzgerald one was a poor call. Then when the Cardinals FINALLY scored, after about 6 tries, there was a penalty flag that was picked up - presumably thrown so the refs could give them another shot at the endzone lol.

The Chris Johnson play was insanity.

Just to think... those guys collected a check and will officiate another game *shudder*

I really really want to find a reason to blame it all on Pees but the man actually called a decent game. This loss on 50 percent on the players 50 percent on the refs.

I would say the team played well. The officiating was terribly one-sided and that with the fumble on the punt return was too much to overcome.  I guess this is the first game of the season where officiating effected the game for us so we can't complain too much.  The run on 3 and 1 late in the fourth quarter was a bad call.  Overall I was pretty pleased with the effort.

James Hurst is awful

Good left tackles are drafted in the top 10 of the first round.  Hurst wasn't even drafted.   He is probably decent for undrafted tackles.  The way it is looking we will have a chance to get a top tackle in the draft if we choose.

Yeah if they hit him it would have definitely been a personal foul.  The league needs to stop being so wimpy and let players hit each other again.  But terrible call they should have blown the whistle.

Yeah man, I'm all for that. When Hurst subs in its like OLBs are crashing down on Joe. Hurst just gets his lunch money taken away.

Only 4 teams in the AFC have scored more points than the Ravens.

Our offense still isn't the problem.

Maybe in the 2nd half last night they were. Had we scored a few points, we could have won that game. Play calling was horrible, though, so I'm not putting it on the players too much.

No one ever talks about how bad our run game is. Every week it's "They need to run to open up the pass", and every week it's been just the opposite. Until the offense sees that the pass game opens up the run, they will struggle early in games.

The play calling certainly hasn't been stellar, but given the lack of talent that we have at the receiver position I've been fairly happy with the production that we've gotten from the offensive unit.

If we had any semblance of a defense right now we'd probably be 5 - 1 or 6 - 0.

I'm not even mad, guys. I'm just disappointed.

We need defensive line help. We need secondary help. We need receiving help. Same story every week. All of our issues can be traced back to a deficiency at these three position groups.

I'm not pointing at Flacco for the loss; I'm pointing at the offense as a whole starting with Trestman.

I think the biggest issue with this offense last night was Monroe and Aiken.  Aiken led the team in snaps at WR and couldn't get open worth a damn, he was a total waste of space on the field.  He also did a horrible job picking up blocks and didn't pick up hot reads, either.  He is just a bad receiver, that he is our #1 receiver in snaps this year is absolutely pathetic.  And Monroe was ATROCIOUS.  He couldn't block to save his life.  How often was Flacco running for his life or getting sacked because Monroe was just a turnstile (if he was even that effective at slowing down the pass rusher)?  There were plays where Monroe might as well not even have been on the field.  In fact, Flacco's blind side was protected better on the final drive of the game when Monroe was out due to injury.

When your blind side tackle is playing that bad and your #1 receiver in snaps is that useless, and your running game is only getting like 3 yards per carry, and your punt returner coughs up the ball costing you a drive and making you play from behind in the 2nd half, then it becomes a perfect storm of *really difficult* to get anything going on offense, so I don't personally really think Trestman is too much to blame for the stalled drives we had in the 2nd half when Monroe was useless, Aiken was useless, the run game was useless, and we were playing from behind. That's tough to overcome.

WHERE IS OZZIE???  This is ALL on him.

6 lost games and OZZIE is missing in action.  It was his genious that walked Tory Smith, Anquan Bouldin, Jacoby Jones, and Haloti Ngata to the exit door.  If I were John Harbaugh I would stop addressing the press and tell them to drag OZZIE out to the stage for answers about our crappy season.  You can't win games without STARS and you cannot have STARS unless you are willing to pay for them. Generally, OZZIE has been a good manager but the organization shows little loyalty to their STAR players.  Look how long we've had the franchise and compare that to the small handful of Ravens that started AND ended their careers as Ravens.  We have NO loyalty and now we are paying for it.

James Hurst is awful

Better get use to him. It's almost a guarantee that Monroe will be out for 5 weeks with a stinger in his shoulder.

Was glad to see Ray and Boomer stick with us. Givens will probably see more once he's adapted.

The good:  We weren't blown out and kinda showed some fight.  Also, SSS post game.

The bad: Penalties.

The ugly:  Our record.  Fumble on ST was a momentum killer as well.

Agreed. I've got to add-in the 'good' was how that bold 'legible receiver' play call showed 'swag' and (bad) how it ultimately exposed just how amateur the league's officiating has become. On that play and every other game changing call.

The Ugly: Our record doesn't truly reflect the team, but no one could really have a definative explaination why. It is what it is: Just Ugly.

We do have a cap and we have given big money to stars. Maybe not consistent stars but this team spends close to the cap. We had a lot of guys end their career as Ravens, so to say we have "NO" loyalty is not fair. I think it is more of a thing where we can not pay everyone, so sometimes you have to let guys go. Most players are not willing to give a hometown discount to us.
