Chuck Pagano

21 posts in this topic

There's been rumblings for a while but it's starting to look like there's a good chance the Colts move on from him barring a miraculous turn around. Fingers crossed they don't fire him until the offseason so we can make strong move for him to return as DC.

If the Colts continue to slide and Pagano get's fired mid-season it's a very messy situation because it is substantially harder to simultaneously fire Pees mid-season and make the swap. At least if Indy waits until the offseason to make a move we will have a full 16 games worth of inadequacy to tell Pees "It's not working out".

Pagano just meshes so well with our defensive philosophy and he really is a great defensive mind when he doesn't have an entire team to manage. I think we would be at the top of his list for preferred landing spots and this time around we won't have to worry about him getting snatched up as a HC for a number of years if we can manage to bring him back to Baltimore. A lot of football  still to be played this season but it really is starting to look like the stars are  starting to align for Pagano to come back to Baltimore as a DC this offseason.

I wouldn't mind Pagano at all. He rubbed off on this organization very well. I can see us welcoming them back after or if Pees gets canned.

Edit: Obviously it depends on what he wants as well. You can't forget that.

Pagano has already been making it known that if he's fired from The Colts he's done with coaching. Honestly for a guy that has been consistently getting his team to the playoffs I find it hard to believe he will be willing to accept coordinator job again right away.

Can he teach DBs to stay on their feet in coverage?

he could.

does he feel like doing that?

probably not lol

hasnt this idea already come and gone?

if he leaves Indianapolis he'll head coach somewhere else not a coordinator, and that's if he even decides to stay in the league. people really need to give this up.

I remember hearing him say the Colts is his "last job" but I mean how much stock are you going to put into that while hes under contract with a team. There's obviously a chance he sincerely meant it but I also wouldn't be surprised at all if he does continue his coaching career elsewhere. Why would you talk about other coaching jobs when your under contract? To me it was more of just trying to show his commitment to the Colts and that he isn't even thinking about life after Indy because that's where he wants to be.

If the Colts have a great year would he walk away from the game at the end of the year? I highly doubt it. While it's clearly not how he envisioned his career path going if he get's fired (more likely his contract just expires and isn't re-newed) I'm not sold he's just walking away from the game. I think he will re-evaluate that decision when it happens, anything said to the media by a coach under contract has to be taken with a huge grain of salt.

Highly doubt it, if the Colts have failed so miserably this year with the abundance of talent they have why would another team jump right on board with Pagano who couldn't get the job done with a top notch QB, array of offensive weapons, and is supposedly a defensive minded coach who's defense has performed terribly. The situation he would be entering would almost certainly be less advantageous.

To me him walking away from coaching is more likely than him getting an immediate redemption at HC elsewhere.

I don't care who is Defensive coordinator next year as long as it isn't Dean Pees.

This team cannot tackle to save their life. Especially the secondary.

Boldin also said he would retire if the Ravens wouldn't pay him the 7mil.

Pretty sure he had a 1000 yard season elsewhere for 2 years straight...

Pagano is going to be very popular if let go.

Jim Schwartz has done wonders for bills. Bills def players were lousy clowns. Jim made them into sound defense. Then he got fired. Now bills def is a joke. Now jim has a desk job.

I would heavily pursue Jim Schwartz. He loves baltimore. Big fan of the city. He is our next guy.

Since the Colts don't play until Monday Night, can he call our plays secretly on Sunday against the Chargers?

not sure what team youre watching, but the colts arent that talented. andrew luck is literally the only talent on their team. andre johnson and frank gore are old and washed up. terrible pick ups in the offseason. the problem with indy is the management, not chuck pagano.

if he hits the open market he'll get snapped up in no time.

even if you do want to live in imaginary land and say chuck pagano isnt a good coach and no one will want him. dont need to look any further then rex ryan, jack del rio, jim caldwell, lovie smith, etc etc etc etc

the Colts' struggles are not on Pagano. if Irsay has any sense he'll fire GM Grigson who has ignored the OL in the draft and put his eggs in the basket of skill position players; old ones too. - and for whatever reason, Luck is not playing well this year either. all that said, Pagano will probably take the fall for the team and be let go by year's end.
