He was definitely more of a ballhawker last year at safety. But not woodson level.

very few do have Woodsons ballhawking level

You ever have that funny feeling Woodson maybe the best DB ever?

He's definitely very good, but no, I've never considered him to be the best ever.  There have been too many really good CB with great ball hawking ability.  Ed Reed is one of the them.

Charles has competition for the best DB with Rod Woodson and Ronnie Lott, but IMO Reed is the best true safety to ever play, hands down no competition.

Yeah, I've never considered him to be the best ever either.  Rod Woodson is definitely right up there.  Ronnie Lott was an amazing player.

I think Ramsey is the safest pick for us, not the best, but the safest.

Bosa has the highest potential and is at the top of the list for me.

Then comes Ramsey/Nkemdiche. I think Ramsey could change our defense, but Nkemdiche looks like a super luxury pick, but a beast.

Then comes Tunsil/Stanley. I prefer Tunsil more just because he has that nasty streak, but Stanley would be just as good.

Hargreaves is next in line and the margin behind Hargreaves and the rest is much larger than the difference in the top guys.

The more I read these posts, the sorrier I feel for everyone on the Ramsey Train when he gets picked ahead of us (how much ahead, I don't know).

You're onto something here, I think. Beckham all over again.

nkemdiche has by far the highest ceiling in this draft.

Still too soon.

Everyone in this thread needs the Chargers to win tonight. If the Bears win, Chargers drop to 2-7, sitting with the third overall pick. Eric Weddle is a free agent, Ramsey would not get past SD if they were picking in the top five.

To be fair, a lot of their defence is an abomination so they could well be looking at a guy like Bosa or Kim D for all we know. Even a LT would be a good long-term pick for them.

I don't think they pick anything but OL in first 2 rounds. Like Bengals this year.

I don't see this as an issue because I can't recall when a FS or CB went higher than 5th overall. The Chargers will likely take a LT, DL, or pass rusher like Bosa over Ramsey.

Agreed. I don't see FS as their pick that high. If anything they'll trade back to get him but they wouldn't take him that high when guys like Bosa, Tunsil, Nkemdiche, and others are around. They'll need to prepare for Melvin Ingram, who's either a free agent next year or the year after. They need pass rush and invested a lot at secondary recently.

They could even take a WR to replace Floyd when he retires.

Finally got around to watching Ramsey.

Still like VH3 more, but Ramsey will do well as a safety

Yeah. I have them equal, honestly, but I see them in different positions in the NFL. Ramsey will be a true FS imo at the next level while Hargreaves will be a CB. The only way I see Ramsey playing CB is if injuries force it..

Everyone is super hyped over his cornerback skills, but I see them as overrated. Honestly, though, true nose for the football and he is always looking to go at that ball and attack it. I like that

Pretty much my thoughts. Where do you see him falling? I have him going between 8-15 and I'm sticking by that until something changes my mind.

I'd have to agree. He's going to be fighting the likes of Bosa, Goff, Lynch, Nkemdiche, Stanley, and Tunsil to go top five and even possibly guys like Doctson, Hargreaves, Treadwell, Boyd, Smith to even go top 10. I could easily see him slip out of the top 10, even if I see it as unlikely. I will say that I do view him in the new mold coordinators want in that I think he could play in the box or deep. I think that'll help him a lot. I saw him get washed out fairly easily at times in the run game, but you could certainly use him to cover tight ends or blitz. He's impressive, certainly

Yeah I pretty much see a guy in the mold of Byrd. That's who I see when I watch him. I know others say he's another Woodson but I'm not sure I agree there since he hasn't proven to be that good of a CB. I think his role in the NFL is as a FS who can come up and play against the TE.

I think the expectations to say he's a Woodson are unfair. No one needs that lofty of expectations.

I liked the idea of calling him a bigger Mathieu

Yeah he definitely plays like Mathieu as well. I think that's another fair comparison.

Sounds about right to me, that would be one fun player to have

Ozzie better have a plan to get Ramsey if he neglects the FS position in free agency because we can't go into next season with Kendrick Lewis starting again. Do we have a shot at signing Nelson, Weddle, Berry, Thurmond or Gipson? If we signed one of those guys, I think it's safe to say that Ozzie would take VH3 in the draft.

I don't love Ramsey as a true CB either. I think he's at his best when moving all around the field whether that's as a deep safety, covering TE's in the slot, playing down in the box or blitzing off the edge. He's a playmaker and I feel like just putting on an island covering a WR takes away from that and isn't playing to his strengths and weaknesses.

I'd like Thurmond. I've been impressed from what I've seen of him after transitioning from CB and would probably be a lot cheaper than guys like Berry, Weddle and Gipson. Also we could still take Ramsey even with him but maybe wouldn't with the others.
