[News] Late For Work 10/26: Steve Smith Sounds Off On Panthers Trade Talk

67 posts in this topic

It seems Tressman has really screwed up an offense that Kubiak installed and Joe excelled in.

I get the impression Tressman is in his own head too much. We see him try to outsmart the opponent by running plays he thinks they wont be ready for when in fact they are just bad plays that dont fool anyone

Harbs kinda slipped and put this out there in a presser earlier in the week. The whole comment about making sure coaches aren't just "putting plays out there to put them out there." That plays should be in line with the talents of your roster and have some sort of scheme to test and stretch the opponent.

Because everyone has been concentrating on the defense and Pees I think we might have missed that he could have been talking about Trestman.

Can anyone definitively state what our offensive scheme is?

2014 - With Kubiak we knew it was zone stretch, short west coast passing coupledĀ with an occasional deep shots to TorreyĀ to keep safeties neutralized.

2013 - Off of the Super Bowl win and Joe's Mega contract it was the "Year of Putting it on Joe's Back" so there was a lot of spread and pistol formation

2012 - it was ground and pound with and occasional deep shot under Cam Cameron most of the year. And then under Caldwell it was an offense squarely designed around the talents of the roster. Rice in the check downs and flat, Boldin and Pitta roaming the intermediary and short routes, Torrey and Jacoby stretching the field.

Every year the offense has a theme or scheme. Even when it's average results, there is a central scheme.

What is this year's scheme?

it just seems like we're calling random plays in reaction to the situationĀ  - not proactively hunting the opponents defense.

I wonder if Mr. Kraft had anything to do with the ridiculous schedule the Ravens received. Only thing he had to do is call his buddy Rog.

What's ridiculous about it? You've got a month long stretch coming up where the Ravens don't leave Baltimore. So when they lose most of those games... what will the excuse be?

Ā

Winning games in Oakland, SF, or AT HOME against Cleveland have nothing to do with scheduling.

I am HONORED by the loyalty and love SSS has shown for the Ravens. Despite our losing record, SSS won'tĀ jump ship on his teammates. SSSĀ considers himself born to be a Raven and is upfront saying he is happy to be and STAY a Raven.Ā Win or lose, SSS will try to help his team turns things around to win or go down swinging with his teammates. Now THAT is a man with good, old fashioned loyalty.

A friend pointed out over beers yesterday that:.....Both the Colts and the Ravens were accused by Mr. Kraft for having something to do with the Brady Deflate gate thing......both teams are uncharacteristically struggling at the bottom this season while the Patriots are undefeated.......what did you do this summer Mr. Kraft? Let the conspiracy theories begin!! GO RAVENS!

Yeah, here's the conspiracy... both the Colts and Ravens are playing poor football, and the Patriots aren't.

Ā

A majority of the losses this season fall directly on the shoulders of the defense. Ā So why are people blaming Trestman for our current 1-5 record?

Breshad Perriman posted this: "Never question the man above.... Just let him work". Hey Breshad, don’t have to question him but can you put in a request or implore upon Him to accelerate healing your Knee bruise at least? For all our sakes?

I totally agree that the offense has scored points and Flacco is heading for big stats and yes the defense continues to lose leads late. I guess it just seems to me that there is no offensive rythem. It "appeared" that Flacco threw in the towel at the end of the game last week and Harbs had to use a time out because he couldnt believe the play that was called in.

off to rough starts but and bit of inconsistency but our offense maybe lost 1 out of our 5 losses and it is hard to pinpoint a loss to one thing... there are 90 plays a game, offense defense and special teams

While I think both sides of the ball need an influx in talent, the offensive side of the ball is probably 1-2 players (largely WRs) from being well above average. Its primarily just a talent issue on the offensive side of the ball.

Ā

On defense, that are multiple issues that probably would need to be fixed with a combination of coaching and personnel changes. I'd be far more concerned with that over the long run.

I'm sorry - I love Ray Lewis. Great player and great leader. But some of his interviews and videos (especially in recent years) make me think that he has a couple of screws loose. Does anyone know what he was saying in that video? God tells him to put his hands on Jacoby Jones which then imbues Jacoby with the power to score a touchdown off of a kick-off return? So he's like God's Touchdown Agent? Love you Ray but I don't always understand what you're saying

He's a tough sell to people who aren't religious, as well as people who can't get past the fact that he was at least involved in a murder.

Ā

I will say that often a lot of his "preaching" and constant bringing of religion into a non-religious area gets quite annoying at some moments, almost as if he is taking credit away from people (the one's actually performing) and giving it to a religious figure.

Ā

He's a smart man who knows a lot about football, but I wouldn't say he's great on TV.Ā

I hope next season we actually attempt to load up on WRs in the front half of the draft instead of the back end. I feel we do much better drafting linemen and backup guys in the latter half of the draft then we do actual potential long term starters.

I hope we do it for WR and DBs too. I wouldĀ like to see Oz trade up to get the best graded guy they have on their list. Like Atlanta did with Julio. If he has doubts then trade for a proven WR/DB that's still in his prime use the draft pick for a sure thing.

When you have good players who do not perform on the field, you have to look at the coaches and ask why,

Why can't you motivate the players

Why can't you coach the players

Why are the players not playing for you

Jimmy Smith, Will Smith, Kendrick Lewis, Kyle Arringtom, Ladarius Webb

Ravens should have a great outfield this year.

You can't blame the Offense, they score the points, passing yards, enough to win and more than anyone has a right to expect with the receivers and TE corp.

Insightful post. For me, it'sĀ not the religious aspect as much as I just don't understand what he is talking about like at all. He is a powerful and charismatic figure that can inspire others because he has a strong sense of self-confidence. But I get the feeling (this is true by with me) that people will get amped up by what he said but not understand what his actual words mean. I think Flacco said something to this effect.

Ray Lewis has a lot of heart. Maybe he's spreading the word (religiously) by encouraging folks, but he is on to something and a lot of these younger guys need to spend their lives going in the right direction and I think they get that from guys like Ray Ray. I don't think he's misleading anyone, if you're not sure. GO RAVENS! Let it be a good ending to our year to build on for next year!

Keep Smith unless you get a great deal, he wants to be here. Theres a good chance he may come back next season. He could help with any young talent they bring in.

Man... Ray could be sending a lot of other messages.... WHat is he saying? To believe in yourself, to work hard, to trust God, to live right.... and good things will happen in your life. He is acknowledging that their is a power greater then himself and that Jesus Christ is the influence n his life that changed him from all those things he was accused of and involved with... to who he became... a leader of men! One of the greatest motivators we know. This is what worked for him.... and he is sharing it! In a day and age where a lot of these young guys in the NFL are going in a wrong direction... who are hearing a lot of wrong messages... What is wrong with Ray acknowledging what changed him? These are grown men... if they don't believe the same they don't have to. He is not threatening to hurt them if they don't. He is just saying... this is what made a drastic change for him. Made his life drastically different. When you find something good - you share it. It amazes me how many people knock him for sharing a life that has been dramatically changed and the reason for it? IDK... even if someone don't believe the same... cant they respect the fact that this is what worked for him? Something brought change in his life? and it was dramatic. WHy not acknowledge it. Not everyone has to agree or accept what he attributes it to... but he does attribute it to Jesus Christ. Who can argue that? Maybe it don't apply to your life but he has the right to speak about what happened in his life! If people agree to disagree that is their choice but saying that he shouldn't discuss his views or share his beliefs... that is hypocritical. BC when someone says he shouldn't they are assuming they have the right to share their beliefs (that he shouldn't). IF we can get on here and share our beleifs whey does he not have the right to do the same?

Again, Ray is an unbelievable motivator and is inspiring to hear. But do you actually understand what he was saying with Jacoby Jones by the Super Bowl? You mention very positive qualities but if your best friend came and told you that GodĀ spoke to him and toldĀ him to place his hands on you and you would get offered an amazing job - I believe you would question his sanity lol. And again, I believe there was an article stating that Joe Flacco said something to the effect of that he was inspired by Ray Lewis but never understood what he was saying

"The Ravens%u2019 smash mouth, physical style and culture that encourages players to be their best selves".........sorry, but that isn't how I'd describe the Ravens- at least not this year. That just isn't 2015 Ravens football.
