The Arthur Brown thread

62 posts in this topic

Before this gets locked or whatever let me explain why I made this. The only Threads related to Brown were either crazy talk about moving him to OLB or irrelevant ones like him being IR'd last year. Given this guys contract is almost up I figure people would want to talk about him.

I'll start it off. This guy REALLY needs to be thrown into the fire. It's his 3rd year and he was projected as a good cover MLB, which we are missing.

I thought Brown was great in coverage in 2013 but be seriously looked like he regressed there in preseason this year. I'm not sure what we can do with this guy but it would be nice to get him on that field, but where? It's not like we can justify sitting Smith or Mosley.

I could possibly get behind using him when we go 4-3 instead of Upshaw as our third LB, who simply looks lost lately regardless of where he is.

To be completely honest, I feel like he's likely a lost cause at this point.  We've been experimenting with using 3 ILBs on the field at one time in the past couple of weeks, and it's been Orr out there every single time.

if you want him to play start praying mosley or smith gets injured or harbaugh throws the white flag and sits everybody.

We could really use Arthur Browns athleticism, this defense is slow. Either way he should have some use given to how slow we are defensively.

And where should he play? Both Smith and Mosley have proven to be better. I say Brown for FS...

Just have him take some snaps from Smith or something. He's our 2nd round pick and barely EVER saw the field. If he's so bad he can't even get on the field in counting it as another one of Ozzies busts.

the slow guys on our defense play a different position then brown.

not to mention the guys that do play at browns position are at this point pretty much better at every or at least most aspects then brown.

Yes, C.J and Daryl are better, but at this point I feel that Brown should get some reps. He is faster than both Mosley and Smith and I can see a scenario where Daryl Smith doesn't even return. I feel that Brown would at least give us a guy who care chase down running QBs and dump-off running backs, and fullbacks. They tend to burn our Linebackers.

Arthur should be way better than Mosley coverage wise. CJ is simply atrocious in coverage.

and you are going to justify benching daryl/mosley or take away snaps by saying what?

i don't think coaches should make decisions based on feelings alone lol.

he has not shown any of the cover skills you speak of in pre season against 2nd and 3rd stringers so.....

Not saying they should do it, it's just a suggestion. We did it once this year and did it in his rookie year, where he would come into some situations. Just saying he should have a place in some sub-packages and who's talking about feelings? lol

You're at 1-5, this is where you're at the point of evaluation, unless the Ravens feel they have a chance some guys will get their snaps. Also, if I can recall Harbaugh had high hopes for Arthur Brown and even had the expectations that he'll play in the regular season.

Arthur used to be somewhat good in coverage, but he hasn't been that great as anticipated. C.J has had a down year so far straight up. There's no way around it. I don't believe in benching C.J though, he's still young and one of your core players. I just feel that maybe on some sub-packages and plays, you can put Brown in and see what he can do for you, but I feel that it would be at the expense of Daryl Smith.

With the way injuries are hitting us... he may just play some this year (knock on wood)

Yeah given how far he was down in the preseason, I don't have any real expectations on him at this point.

Very good assessment!! Daryl Smith plays smart but he is slow and and may even retire. He needs to be replaced anyways. Is Arthur that guy?? Brown is the more likely of the 2 lbs to help the team next year unless he is that terrible they do not want him on the field. In that case he should of been cut already!! If they feel there is any potential at all then he needs to get reps!! Otherwise cut him. Unless, Ozzie does not want to cut him because it makes him look bad being he traded up to get Arthur. He is fast and athletic, nothing helps a player more than reps. Unless his instincts, angles, and physicality is that terrible he will never be a good player regardless of reps. I do think Mosley has the speed and athleticism to rebound in coverage. Mosley is as fast as Arthur.

Honestly...the way I can see them keeping Brown around is if D. Smith retires or they need a ST's body. Otherwise, he's probably gone. I would love to see that athleticism on the field in a purple and black uniform.

I honestly think he is a dump.   Are you telling me some sort of magic will happen if he 'is thrown to the fire'?   He couldn't beat a undrafted LB for 3 straight years.   He was horrible @ preseason.   The only redeeming spark he has shown was @ preseason #4 vs 3rd stringers this year(ON HIS 3 YEAR).

The guy is a wash.   I don't believe in fairy tales.   He is a dump.

Gotta say I'm thinking the same at this point. Really sad to see it, because I liked him a lot, but he hasn't ever become what I thought he could be. I got that one wrong and I'll sadly own up to it. I say sadly because I'd rather be wrong about a guy who never came to the team.

He probably is. So why wasn't he cut?? Is Ozzie worried about his rep dumping a round2 pick this early??

I guess we're giving him another chance since he's about to enter his final year. Edited by GrimCoconut

throw him in the fire, maybe in the offseason take a look at possibly switching up how we line up on defense. the 4-3 keeps popping into my head but it seems more like a talent and talent wanting to play for the coach issue. See the Miami Dolphins for reference

I remember the year he was drafted...the Manti Teo, Kevin Minter draft.

Although I was excited that we took a flier on a potential starting MLB, or at least an athletic LB, I knew he was going to be a project player who we would have to develop, and have little to no impact year 1, but I had hope we could develop him into SOMETHING on defense given his athleticism but for whatever reason he just never really developed into what we had in mind.

Id be eager to see him in a 4-3 scheme...maybe that will suit him better. I guess we'll see next off season.

On another note thank God Ozzie drafted C.J. Mosley the following draft. It's like Ozzie knew Brown wasn't the guy he had in mind and Cj was jussssst that.

Not a valid excuse. His dead money is $482k and his savings is $486k so , it would actually cost nothing to cut him.
