[News] Is Brandon Williams Ravens' Best Defensive Player?

46 posts in this topic

Wait a couple of more years, and Ozzie will say bye, bye to Brandon Williams too - he seems to let some of our good players walk out the door (ahem, Torrey)- If Torrey was here, it changes everything on our offense. Why do you think Marlon looked decent last year and Aiken? Because Torrey opened up everything for them. That's why SSS also had a 1,000 yard year. Torrey, while it was a down year for him catch wise, the reason was because opposing defenses paid so much attention to him- also, he led the league in pass intereference calls against him- you add up all those yards, and he was definitely a 1,000 yard receiver. It will be hard for me to forgive Ozzie for not doing anything with the secondary (esp when everyone else knew it was a problem last year) and not keeping either Jacoby or Torrey- he really put all the marbles behind Perriman, a rookie who spends more time on the hospital bed than the playing field. Oh year, our best defensive player was Ngata or McPhee- oh wait, forgot Oz said bye to those two dudes too

Not surprised that Brandon is considered the best run defender in the NFL by PFF. Williams has earned himself a trip to the Pro Bowl and he deserves to be voted in. Brandon has an amazing personality also.

Williams is a tank, has a chance to be better than Haloti, though his name might not ever be recognized as such. Jernigan is starting to play like he did last year, and can be a pro-bowl caliber player. Add in C Davis with a year in the weight room and a year in our system, we wont need to touch our defensive line for the next 5 years and they can dominate.... Our offensive line is going to be very good for the next 3-5 years if we leave it in tact. We have the foundation to be great, you build a team inside first... go out and spend some newfound cap money to bring in a few playmaking vets, draft one or two more playmakers and we will recover in no time. In Purple and Black I believe.

Oh please, you seem to think theres a magical GM out there that has never had to let any good player go. Ozzie is right 99% of the time, think Kruger, Ellerbe, Williams and Jones. Torrey is having the same problems in San Fran as he was having here, he drops ball, disappears and is a big play guy with nothing else, so far this year he has a grand total of 14 catches compared to Aikens 18. Is he better than anyone else we have besides SSS? of course but I'm glad Ozzie didn't shell out to keep him, he's still not worth the money he got from the 9ers. Steve Smith is on pace for more than a 1000 yards even with a missed game so I don't quite get how you are trying to tie his year last year to Torrey. Ozzie did do something with the Secondary, we signed Arrington and Lewis, not to mention we relied on finally having a healthy Webb and Smith, nobody can anticipate when/if players will work out, sometimes you hit a homer (Hill) sometimes you miss (Arrington). There is no argument for keeping Jacoby, he added literally nothing on Offense and lost a step in the return game, he cost too much and had to go. And how is Ngata doing in Detroit? McPhee got a fat contract from Chicago, we couldn't match it, thats the nature of the business.

I think more than a few of us would be ok with the defense if they were at least generating turnovers, but I feel we've had one since the week one match up with the broncos. Defense really needs to step up. This would be the game to do it. Over matched by an opponent who on paper should dominate us. Defense gets a few turnovers and we could actually say something positive after the game. Of course, all this is wishful thinking

Williams is a beast but we can't count out Mosley, we lose so much on defense that Mosley is trying to over compensate and it's taking him out of his game. Mosley is still a beast as well.

You do realize that there is a salary cap in this league, right?

You cannot pay everyone market value. You can complain about who he decides to keep, but unless you draft poorly ... good players will leave - its as simple as that.

Either deal with it, or change sports and root for the Yankees, Dodgers or Angels.

You do realize that we'll be 1-6 after we play the Cards, right?  Something is wrong with this team--  we've not drafted well over the past 5 years or so, and everyone knows there's a cap; however, Ozzie chooses to give big contracts to cornerbacks who are always injured (e.g. Webb, Jimmy Smith), and then he spends more money on old FA receivers than he does with keeping our own or spends way too much money on tackles who aren't that good and also get injured all the time (e.g. Eugene Monroe).   Something is wrong, and we have been in decline since last year- something needs to change.. Thank you.

If Ozzie was right 99% of the time, do you think we'd be 1-5 right now and 1-6 after Monday night?  Thank you.  He was great in the past but not so great now- look at the last five drafts.  If we drafted well, younger people would be stepping up now, like other teams - that's why the Pats, Packers, Seahawks, teams like that, would never go 1-5.  Either Ozzie can't pick 'em or the coaching staff can't coach- it's one of the other.  99% right of the time- lmao!

I like Brandon alot but it's too soon to come to that conclusion! My,myself, personally in all three regards like watching this Defense find itself after loosing legends on that side of the ball, they got vets, youngsters and are a scrapy bunch of dudes also but it's too soon CJ ballin, Courtney Upshaw ready to Crack somebody now Big "Z" I call him finding a way to the QB and even our secondary is under the most pressure but I feel they are beginning to gel about this time of the season! The secondary needs Asa back there he can cover very well he just needs to be on the field more plus that's why I feel the #1 pick in our draft should have been a CB like Jimmy Smith instead of an WR! But Brandon is holding it down is why the Ravens don't need to blitz because the Line is getting good pressure so just rush four no more than five is the Defense to run with and watch them then with occasional blitzes that fifth man rushing gotta bring it though!

He may be one of the best at his position relative to anyone else in the league (I think Gerald McCoy and Marcel Dareus used to play NT better, though each plays DT now), but NT is a less valuable position than CB or rush-LB.
