[News] Byrne Identity: We Are What We Are; Monday Nights Are Fun!

25 posts in this topic

You're right. We don't really want to hear about anything till something changes with the way we play.

I appreciate your enthusiasm and optimism, but seriously, at least I am tired of the same old Harbaugh bluster talking of team confidence, we don't care much for the doubters, mockers, blah-blah-blah and we'll sooner rather than later get back to our winning ways.Sure, but I would have liked it to be much, much sooner like may be 6 games sooner!

In any case, unless there is pressure on the players and coaches alike, I don't know if we are going to see a different outcome.Players take accountability of their mistakes which is great, but accountability means squat if those mistakes happen over and over again! So, change the paradigm that is suffocating our team and we'll all be on board for some great optimism!

Tell it like it is Kevin, calling yourself an "Old Fart". Unfortunately, I must admit that I am creeping towards "Old Fartness" myself....or maybe I am there already? Great story again Kevin.

Art Modell was truly a visionary to have lead the reluctant NFL in to 1 of the most lucrative decisions in the history of the league.

Here's a list of our franchises 1st round picks. It's telling. One trend that jumps right out at you is that we haven't had a top 10 pick in over a decade. Also, just because a guy has been a top 10 pick doesn't mean he's a Hall of Fame player (both Ray and Eddie were 26th and 24th overall respectively). We're also really really bad at drafting high-end offensive talent. Really never invested in it seriously. And all this talk of "Leadership" and "locker room presence" draws attention to the fact that Ray, Eddie and Sizzle were all drafted by 2003. Which means we haven't drafted someone with that gravity for 12 years.

We are a 1-5 team and the season is slipping away very fast, it would be nice for the Ravens to turn it around and take some pride in their play.  However, I don't see us better than 7-9 or 6-10 at best, this team is just devoid of experienced and talented players on both sides of the ball.

I still believe that we have a good core group of players, but we need some serious help in the secondary and the wide receiver positions. I hope they can right the ship and start working towards next year by identifying the players that are not up to snuff and start planning on how to fix these issues, I still put my trust in Ozzie and Harbaugh to figure this problem out.  Looking forward for this nightmare to end... :(

actually, I think you will find when you compare our number ones to other teams number ones for the last 20 yrs, weve done pretty well.

And he darn well ought to be in the HoF for it!  Don't get me started....

That may be true for the first decade. Consider however that for over a decade (with the exception of Haloti) we havent produced a reliable pro bowler from the 1st picks until Mosely... and we've seen that he's digressed steeply this season.

I'm not saying we're not good at drafting great players. Just that many of them lately seem to be mid-round players that we develop into greatness.

If I remember correctly, even with Haloti, Ray Lewis had to lobby hard to get him here, it wasn't necessarily a given.

We seem to be lacking the ability to pull the trigger on freakish high-end talent for some reason.

Nice piece, as always.

"Our 10 playoff wins since 2008 are the most – by a lot; Seahawks and Patriots are second with seven each."

... which has something to do with the fact that the Colts (with Manning in his prime) and the Pats regulary won/win their divisions and thus get the bye for the wild-card week, meaning less playoff-games in the same period than the Ravens who usually take the WC-road.

I would hit the draft hard for a franchise FS/SS with good build and character.

Draft a franchise RB, and a more well put together WR.

And also have a real long sit down with the staff to find a Head Coach with an attitude more fit for this team.

Harbaugh was a decent enough coach when we had Ray Lewis to pick up the slack. Now that Ray is gone, we need a coach that brings intensity to this team.

I would swap the Ravens for the Patriots. Just joking--The Ravens are not a bad team. They have always been in games, they are tough and they are pros. I am not sure what they need player wise but perhaps better communication among defensive backs ( will come the more that they play together) and a pass rusher. Go back to the pre-season games which everyone says are meaningless and you will see the same problems on defense. Looking forward to the Cards. The Ravens at a minus 8 or 10 are you kidding me? The Ravens are not he Jags.

I have a good feeling about the Monday night game.. I also probably won't get to see it all since 4:30 comes way to early.  I'm not a MNF fan.

It's always interesting when we play a team we rarely play...like Cardinals. There's a huge X factor in how those type of match ups go.
