[News] Late For Work 10/23: Do Ravens Have More Injuries Than Other NFL Teams?

69 posts in this topic

We just don't punish people any more. There isn't even that type of player on the team. Not even a punishing running back like Jamal Lewis or Marshawn Lynch. Flacco is Flaaco not a rah rah guy and not playing well enough to inspire elevated play. Really, what were they doing in OTA's and camp? One would think he could develope some kind of chemistry with the younger receivers? Isn't that what camps about? Maybe I'm wrong to expect better play from my franchise QB?

We may not have lost as many starters, but we are losing a lot of players in areas where we were very thin to begin with: pass rush, secondary, and receiving corps. Even our depth players are getting hurt in the secondary, just like last year.

Injuries have been a killer. The next man up theory is being tested. We can now see that many of these players do not possess the talent that they need to play at the NFL level. To me that is the biggest let down so far. You realize that injuries can wreak havoc on your overall ability to be competitive. If weekly practices and preparation are not the problem , then it has to fall on backup players ability. A few plays here and there and the team is winning. However, we are unable to capitalize on key plays and cause turnovers. That seems to be a major difference in the team this year. No matter what happens, the secondary is toast for the remainder of this season and will be exploited every game. They never seem to be in position to cover, let alone make an int. Without that capability, things are not going to change for the better.

Have to kind of disagree. Williams and Jernigan, etc were brought in because the front office knew that we could not pay Mcphee and Ngata not restructuring was forcing our hand to add depth to the D-line then, instead of other areas that we needed help. Front office knew that we couldn't lose those guys and more without having anyone to take their place.

It sound like a bad idea when I first heard them say "Jernnigan will replace Ngata". I was like "welp there goes the neighborhood".

Im not knocking on Jernnigan because he is a good player, but I knew for a fact that him and Williams could not take on that role for us smh. And look at us now, our defense is lost.

I said before that Jernigan & Williams were 2nd string caliber players. Especially on this Ravens defense where the tradition has always been putting fear in opposing offenses. No offense will fear these guys knowing that there O-lineman are bigger than any D-lineman/LB we have. Ngata-Suggs-Mcphee were all huge.

I remember our Bart Scott-Adalius Thomas-Jarret Johnson-Ray Lewis days. HEck we even had guys like Paul Kruger, Jameel McClain, and Danell Ellerbe on the back burner just waiting for a shot to play. That was because our talent was so deep on defense.

We've lost that because for one, we have new scouts that don't know good players when they see them, and we have been stripped of our good players.

With that being said I will not fall for what is going on here now. You guys can settle for these players we have now but I know for a fact that most of these guys are not the guys that can bring this team back to its glory days.

I could be wrong bro, but as of right now, Im calling it how I see it. Plus Ray Lewis agrees with me...so yea

Have to agree that our scouting is at the root of our problem. Phil savage stated the fact the other day and I have to agree. We have lost a lot of talent in the player scouting and development dept. over the past several years and we are now seeing that result. Blaming the coaches seems the most likely path to take, then the players. But, the core of the problem is right in the scouting area. we need to get a lot better at evaluating the players that we draft. Just look at the past few years and the number of busts that we have seen and you can see that. Naming them all would take up way to much room in this reply.

Totally agree with the post below about scouting being a problem. I also have never seen Flacco and the running game play so poorly... it can't be Flacco or Forsett's fault. Even though they don't have many offensive weapons they should at least be mediocre. But they're just awful. Which leads me to my theory on quite possibly the most problematic piece of the team... It's Marc Trestman.

I think it's also important for Ray Lewis and us to understand that Lewis and Reed were once.. in .. a .. generation. .. players. It is extremely rare for teams to ever have two guys like these on their franchise let alone playing side by side. If he's talking about starting over with cornerstone pieces like him or Ogden, then it's going to be extraordinarily difficult... especially when we haven't had a to 10 pick in so long.
