[News] Joe Flacco: I Have To Rise Up

50 posts in this topic

Okay lets get this straight what do you propose... He keep throwing the ball to Steve Smith every game.

no. throw to the open guy like every other sensible quarterback does. if it so happens to be Smith Senior all the time, so be it.

That has really been effective strategy so far.

and you think going three and out or throwing picks to other dudes who arent available just for the heck of it, is?

for some reason, you're trying to frame the receivers' lack of talent and ability as a problem with Joe's play. and i dont know why.

What I'm saying is no receiver is going to catch every pass. These guys are young and inexperienced. even though they have been in a league a few years how much playing time do they get... I could be on special teams doesn't mean because I catch punts and returns I'll make catches or interceptions. People do learn from theie mistakes its called growing pains.

those are a lot of lovely excuses that just serve as a roundabout way of saying exactly what i already told you: they arent good enough.

Oh yeah screw 2013, 2014 he had Torrey Smith and couldn't get him the ball. That's what I saw. That's why Torrey Smith had lower production

Torrey got mugged on a lot of his targets and the numbers from those plays were accredited to the flag instead of posting to his stat line. That's why Torrey had "lower production," and that does not mean Joe cant get him the ball.

Solution: If I was the Raven staff I was just start trading for experienced receivers (don't waste draft picks on picking up one) because Joe Flacco only receiver to date that he played well with that came to the team was Dennis Pitta period.

you cant just trade for a whole receiver corps. whoever you get, you have to adapt their contracts. the salary cap is a thing.

and whether you want to acknowledge it or not, he played well with Torrey. Aside from Torrey, all his drafted targets have come from the back nine of the draft or not even drafted at all. he hasnt gotten much talent from the draft, of course he hasnt played well with them.

Get one fast receiver to stretch the field and everyone from other teams because he is incapable of raising the play of those around him like a true leader...

oh gawd....this non sense again. and let me guess: Tom Brady and Aaron rodgers with all their top tier receiers and hall of fame weapons do right?

... . . . . .

Joe Flacco just needs big body receivers because all throws is contested throws

all nfl passes are contested. nobody is ever "wide open" in the nfl unless there was a MASSIVE mistake on defense. nobody in the nfl ever catches a ball with zero defenders around.

You know like I know he won't win throwing the ball to one person (Matthew Stafford tried that with the Lions and I haven't seen them in the post season in a long time).

duh, obviously. the difference between me and you is that i understand he isnt doing that by design or on purpose...you're pretending he is.

Don't just breakdown my post and criticize what do you think the Ravens should do to get better...

get better weapons. and thats not the first time ive said it and multiple other things either. I say all kinds of stuff here that goes in you guys' eyes and out the other everyday as you prefer to do the lazy thing and just blame everything on Pees and Flacco instead. dont come at me like that. I like Joe, I really do. He is one of those guys you wish would just put together a run of a couple games with 300 yards, no interceptions and 2 or 3 Td's. You just want to see another run like the 2012 playoff run where he completes a bunch of TD's and no INT's. Joe is humble in winning and he shoulders the burden when we lose, even though he didn't draft or pick up these wide receivers. He knows his weaknesses, when he throws 25 times a game we may get an error or 2, when he throws 35 - 40 a couple more and when he throws 45 - 50+ times, expect 4 or 5 that are maddeningly bad decisions or poor throws. That is Joe, we know him, we accept that is the way he is. Unfortunately, as we train offensive coordinators to be head coaches, it seems the new guys don't get it right away (excluding Kubiak). I think Trestman's offensive scheme is not taking into consideration who he has playing, and instead is trying to fit these players into his system. This season Joe has thrown 32, 45, 49, 33, 35 and 53 attempts, all far more than he can be successful with. If Trestman truly studied Joe and knew his abilities, then maybe Trestman isn't the man for the job. Flacco looks just like Jay Cutler last year and what is the one consistent factor, Trestman.

That's a good point withTrestman.  However, Cutler is on another planet all together.  Is it me or is the offense play calling between downs slow and lethargic.

Not many QB's will be successful with loads of Practice Squad receivers. The Ravens brass REALLY over valued these guys just like they did when Tanden Doss was going to replace Boldin. Wuth all of that sid any updates on Perriman and when SHE will be back?

Does anyone even realize we have the 6th ranked offense in the league in scoring?  It's not our offense guys.  It's the defense.  Does Joe need more targets???  YES.  Does he have 2 new guys to throw to who have shown promise???  Also YES.  Let's just give these guys a shot and see what they can do.

I'm a huge Flacco guy. He makes dumb mistakes sometimes, but I'll take it, considering the plays he makes for us to help us win. I cannot count how many dropped passes I see in critical moments. Last week Smith Sr. dropped two, TWO touchdown passes. They were tough catches, but Boldin used to makes those catches for us. When Joe was at his best, he had good, RELIABLE pass catchers. Pitta Boldin stand out. When they were all clicking we went to back to back AFC title games. The organization is doing him no favors by just constantly throwing unproven guys out there for him to build chemistry with. Without Steve Smith playing, we're just hoping Aiken and Gilmore can make a difference. Again, making no excuses for poor throws or interceptions, but given what he has, I'm surprised he hasn't played worse.

kind of hard to do that when the defense keeps giving up the lead and were constantly playing catch up. If we could actually keep the other team from scoring joe wouldn't have to make so many attempts and we could just run the ball down our opponents throats.

We don't need Flacco to rise up. We need him to raise up as in raise up the game of his WRs. You do that Joe by throwing to them-all of them. Think raise Joe. Not rise.

What? Elevate his play? Baloney. All he has to do is stop making bonehead mistakes. He is still making the same mistakes as he was in his first year. He stares down receivers, throws off his back foot like he is shooting a fade away jump shot, and seems clueless as to what the opposition defense is doing. His tight ends are the best he has, but somehow he forgets all about them. Unlike the inept wide outs, they catch the ball.

I don't know what all these apologies are for. We're not using injuries as an excuse for the secondary and the coaches, and why would we now use WRs as excuse for Joe Flacco? None of his 7 interceptions this year is because of a WR. He is not playing well. He is not reading defenses well - nothing new. I have seen several times when WRs are open Marlon Brown), and he doesn't throw to them. Talk about QBs making WRs, I guess that doesn't apply to Joe Flacco. We know Marlon can play better. We saw what he did in his rookie season. Joe is only looking at Steve Smith, and when he is covered he just chucks it up there, or throw uncatchable passes to the other receivers. He has been the QB for almost 10 yrs, when is he going to raise his play? Or better yet, when are we gonna stop making excuses for him?

I really can't believe people are bashing Flacco. Do you watch the games? We must have the worst WR's in the league. Joe has NEVER had a real #1 WR. Where is our J. Jones, Antonio Brown, A.J. Green, D. Thomas, O. Beckham, R. Cobb...?? Imagine if he was able to have a true #1 reliable receiver. The Ravens must be in the top 5 in dropped passes over the last three years, probably first. I love SSS, but he has dropped 3 TD passes, one would have won the Denver game. He is the closest we have to a #1 and he's almost 37 years old and is 5' 8". Come on Ravens get a REAL #1 Please! Look at what Joe did when he had at least 2 receivers he could rely on, he won the Super Bowl. Please stop the Joe bashing, our defense is giving up 27 Points a game!

Flacco is a play action deep ball throwing qb that needs a run game. Flacco excelled with jones, boldin, smith an pitta as his butt catchers. We could have something similar again with givens perriman smith in the slot an Gilmore( I just don't no bout pitta an his hip making it all season). The front office should have went after givens before the season started an a will Davis the corner we picked up but no they wait till things start unraveling. Joe definitely needs to cut down on the turnovers though, our team isn't strong enough to withstand them.

Got to agree with ZEUS. In the NFL "Success breeds desertion". We won't have to watch our coaching staff disintegrate at the end of this season though. Who would want any of them after this season? Flacco is trying to make things happen and that is going to continue to cause him to make costly mistakes.

The worst wide receiver corp in the NFL practicing against the worst secondary in the NFL does not produce success on gameday.

Somebody has to say it. Right?  How many weeks is Jump Ball Joe gonna get up there and say "I have to play better,"  and then play as bad, if not worse the next week!?!  Absolute regression.
