[News] Late For Work 10/22: Chances Of Ravens Getting No. 1 Overall Draft Pick?

you missed the point.

you take two guys out of Pittsburgh or Cincinatti, and they're still fine.

we havent drafted ENOUGH play makers...they didnt say zero.

If Bell/Hill was kicked out of the league last September and Brown/Green walked in free agency last March,Pittsburgh and Cincinatti would not be ok right now. We've lost Pitta,Jones,Torrey,Mcphee and Ellerbe in the last 3 off seasons. All of whom were drafted by us and are in their mid 20's.That's the reason we don't have a proven youn nucleus right now.And if you're trying to say that those guys plus the guys we still have like Wagner,Osemele,Williams,Mosley and Gillmore aren't enough drafted playmakers in the last 5 drafts(not including the most recent one because it's too soon to expect much from them)then your expectations are too high. The only way to really top that is to have the success that Seattle had from 2010-2012 and that was some stars aligning themselves perfectly type of stuff. Our drafts from 09-14 have been better than Pittsburghs,Greenbays,New Englands,The Colts(with the exception of 2012) and have kind of been on par with the Bengals. We've gotten about 3 playmakers from the draft per year every year except 2009.That's a very high success rate.

Injury history was how I worded it. Meaning his knee was been a chronic problem since he was younger which I'm sure they knew about

It was never a problem in college...he has no injury history period....  He had one issue when he was an adolescent... that's when OS was diagnosed... There is nothing chronic about it... it never flared up in college or since then.

It's an uninformed statement.

My 34 year old daughter suffered from that as a kid at 14 - 15.  Her knee joints would cramp at night. It was miserable. Her bones were growing faster than the muscles at the time and needed to catch up.  She has never had another issue at all.

We need to draft a QB to compete with Flacco. I'm not saying replacing him outright next year, but perhaps something to light a fire under him, and if no fire is lit, then trade him. His play has been god awful this year, and was god awful in 2013 as well. His play last year was due mainly to the success of the run game. Without it in '13 and '15, he has been exposed, badly. He is in no way worth the megabucks we "had" to pay to keep him after 2012. Not even remotely close. And I don't mean draft a QB in the first round, that would be a waste. We need to draft a top shelf CB.

We need a new GM- plain and simple. Our last five drafts have yielded us nothing- I think Ozzie will step down at the end of the season. Hopefully, Pees also steps down too.

I Love the Ravens.. but we are NOT a Good Team (Management?) when it comes to the Draft.....Matt Elam????? probably gone.... Perriman????? wwill NEVER Suit up as a Raven on Game Day.... WE LEAD the World in Draft Busts.... Come on....

And here we Leave Diggs (WR UMD) on the Board and select Walker... (did he even make the final 53?????

Perhaps we should ask the Steelers Management for suggestions?????

Asa Jackson is already injured?

was thinking the same thing. I don't even remember seeing him in the game. Less he got hurt in practice or something.

Elam and Perriman a first round pick...that's hilarious.

Oz past few years draft picks have been garbage

In an era where the NFL is making it easier to pass the ball, Ozzie has neglected to draft WRs and CBs. I guess we should have seen this coming. And there is almost no chance Baltmore gets the #1 overall pick, despite what those statisticians say. We are going to beat teams like the Jags and Chiefs at home, and they are our main "competition" for that spot, not that I particularly want it because the #1 overall comes with the shame of being worst in the league. Somewhere in that 2 to 9 range is fine, plenty of talent to fit our needs.

For everyone putting S. Diggs in the HOF and completely writing off Perriman, why don't we wait at least one or two seasons. Diggs has only played TWO games so far. Perriman might end up being a bust, but at least give him a chance to prove himself, I'm sure he's not happy being hurt. The problem I have is that the Ravens didn't have a plan B, just in case Perriman didn't end up being Julio Jones his Rookie year. He could end up being the best WR in Raven's history, he just turned 22 last month, R-E-L-A-X.

When I read people saying that the Ravens had a bad start its ridiculous. You played the damn Browns and Raiders. You should win and close out these games. The game vs Denver. How do you go 4 quarters of no offence and then suddenly on the last drive decide to play football? Against Cincinnati AJ Green beat the defence. The 49ers game sheesh. These are all winnable games. The team just self destructs. I also think there may be cockiness in the locker room. They get to the 4th quarter and decide not to play football. They think the other teams will just lay down for them. Even with all these home games I don't see the Ravens doing much. I love the Ravens, but this year its just awful to watch. This isn't a playoff team what so ever. We will get a nice high draft pick this year and hopefully they draft someone who will make a difference on the team. Look at the what the steelers have done on offence and Cincinnati as well. Lets go Ozzie time to wake up!

I'm Optimistic about our future......not so much the present...I just wanna win every game and we aren't going to do that with what we have.....

false.

Bell was missing the first two weeks. They lost to the Pats by 7, and posted a blowout against the 49ers.

Bryant missed the first 5 weeks, they went 3-2.

Roethlisberger went down in week 3. They still beat the Rams, and the CHargers, and the Cardinals, and only barely lost to us in OT because of some stupid decisions from Tomlin.

Going back in time over the past half decade or so, its easy to see how much more sustainable and flexible Pitts offense has been than any other offense in the division, ESPECIALLY at the wideout position. Hines and Santonio are the top guys. You lose Santonio, in steps Wallace. you lose Hines and Wallace, i steps Sanders and Brown.

Lose sanders, in steps Wheaton and Bryant. They constantly have serviceable if not outstanding talent ready to step up when they lose some one for whatever reason and continue to win in the face of nearly any adversity they encounter. We dont.

AS for Cinci: Bernard is the lead dog in the backfield right now. and even last season Hill only took over like half way through the season. THey're 1A and 1B. They played a 3 week stretch without green las season and posted a W (against us), a tie, and a loss. Even outside of that 3 week stretch, there were 3 games where Green was a complete non factor. His first game back after his injury, which they lost to the Browns. and two others they won.

both teams obviously have at least a slightly harder time if they lose a couple guys, but neither of them is in a hopeless 1-5 hole wih a charity win.

Now...McPhee, Ellerbe, and Jones all play defense, and CLifton was talking about offense, so not sure why you're bringing them up at all, youre off topic.

We lost Pitta and Jones in the offseason. the reason why we dont have a young nucleus is because they were teh only two guys we've brought in that stuck in the past half a decade...which is CLifton's point.

KO and Wagner arent going to score us points. Williams has hardly done anything. Gillmore is a seviceable target but no playmaker as of yet. if he were, we'd be at least 2-4, not 1-5.

You're listing a bunch of decent players and players with potential...not play makers. Being a playmaker is more than just being good enough to start. PLaymakers defy the odds, make something out of nothing, and turn hopeless situations into positive plays. Smith Senior is a playmaker. Flacco is a playmaker. And this season on this offense, the two of them stand in that box alone.

Neither mine nor anyone else's expectations are too high at all. We drafted franchise QB and RB play back in 2008. We've had top tier defense even longer than that combined with a multi year stretches of playmaking free agents in Boldin, Jacoby, and now Smith Senior to go along with the two offensive talents we did manage to find in Torrey and Pitta. 7 years (no, there's no pas for this year's draft either cuz playmakers dont need time to develop...Evans, Beckham Jr. Bell, etc. didnt wait) is more than enough time to have found and developed some talent behind or in conjuction with these guys; several ohter front offices have pulled it off with ease, this front office has not. we definitely havent gotten 3 playmakers per year, not even close. and not only havent we drafted any play makers, we've barely even picked up any useful players unlike pittsburgh whose guys i already listed; Cinci who has Sanu, Jones, Eifert, Hill; Indy who has Moncrief, Dorsett, Fleener, Allen, Luck, Hilton.

No dude: all those teams you listed except for New England have outdone us by far in the draft on offense. New England has Lafell, Chandler, AMendola, Blount, and Lewis to fill in with Gronk and Edleman, so it doesnt even matter in their case.

like i said: take two guys out of any of these offenses, and you still dont have any good reason to believe they're going to tank the season like we are, they still have plenty they can win with. You'd have to hammer them pretty hard before their offense ever looked as hopeless as ours.

You will never find Dalton, Rodgers, BRady, Luck, or Roethlisberger pinning all their hopes on a group of guys like Waller, Aiken, Ross, and Givens. There is no comparison.
