The Joey Bosa thread

Certainly was not a good day for Bosa or Hargreaves.

I think Bosa and Hargreaves are doing their best to avoid teams like Tennessee, Cleveland, maybe Dallas and others. Clearly they are tanking for Trust in Ozzie lol.

This coupled with the suspension PLUS him telling reporters he wasn't gonna look at game tape after he had a bad game doesn't make him look good.

Coming from the guy that has hated him from the very beginning.  I'm not going to pretend he doesn't have his downfalls, but this ejection means absolutely nothing to me.  It wasn't the smartest play ever of course, but I look at this as more of a product of NCAA rules than Bosa's wrongdoing.

Did you even see the play? It definitely wasn't the smartest penalty, but him being tossed was pretty ridiculous, to me at least. I understand that it's an automatic ejection for targeting, but he hit the guy in the middle of his body. It's not even going to be a penalty in the NFL but college ball imposed strict targeting rules that tosses immediately.

Yeah I thought ejecting him was a bit out there. Doesn't affect his stock in my eyes. Just has to pick his head up, that is easy.

To be fair, he's lightened up on him and has recently wanted him here. I agree it's a stupid rule, though. He should've known better and done better, especially in a game like this. He needed to play smart.

Maybe they have an alliance to avoid Cleveland. Hey, if this causes either one of them to fall to us thats fine with me lol

No bro. I was one of the guys that opened up to him. I then fell out of love because I preferred Hargreaves(who's also hurt his stock).

Yeah it was still a dumb decision of course.  I'll still stand by my statement that it's not a penalty at the NFL level, though.  The QB is going to get back up and it's on to the next play.  It'd be different for me if it was a shot to the head of course.

It was a silly penalty and one that has to make you wonder how many 15-yard flags he'd draw in the pros if the strict targeting rules don't stop him from making hits like that (or how many fines from Goodell...). But I think what's also worth watching was how much the OSU defence struggled once he left (struggled may not be the right word, but they went from strangling Notre Dame to giving up a lot of plays almost instantly).

Yeah, we'll have to see how it goes in the draft process. I won't change my opinion on him for this alone. That would be silly imo. Just makes me wonder about his discipline and where his head is at times. Harbaugh probably wouldn't care, though. He wasn't even upset with Jernigan so I doubt this would bother him.

One thing I did notice about the Bosa play is that he didn't start to wrap his arms until after he had already made contact.  It almost seemed as though he thought he was a bit further away from the QB than he thought.  Of course, if he keeps his head up, none of that matters.  I don't think it was intentional or anything.  Still a stupid play regardless.

With the Stanford-Steelers game pretty quickly turning into a blowout, I thought I'd watch the first couple of ND drives again and I don't think that ejection will do anything at all to hurt Bosa's stock. The ejection was the equivalent of copping a two-game suspension for breaching some stupid NCAA rule (frankly there are a few of those, so take your pick). Kizer hadn't even landed so the only way that's a penalty in the NFL is one of those frustratingly soft roughing the passer calls (think Upshaw's hit on Ben last year).

I'll also note that he did well on that play to hustle after initially getting decked by the RT (McGlinchey?). He got cleaned out, got back up and sprinted towards Kizer, so the hit looked like it was all momentum. In any sport at all, the cardinal rule is that if you get beaten you go all out to try and get back on the play.

On the whole he looked pretty good in the snaps he did play. Got the better of my boy Stanley in their one encounter and showed the versatility and dominance against the run that I think would make him a star in our front seven.

The ejection adds another question, but nothing that shouldn't be asked of most prospects. I think our best hope of getting him is still that six or so teams in front of us decide they simply prefer someone else. One of those six teams deciding to pay Mario Williams wouldn't hurt either.

This is pretty much exactly what it was except not as hard as the Upshaw hit.

Yeah, like I say if that hit's anything at all to go by then all he'll get is a few roughing the passer calls. And with how the rules work today, if you're not getting a few of those calls, you're not doing your job as a pass rusher properly.

I initially had my questions about the hit, but I feel like they're been more or less answered now. :P

No one avoids playing for Dallas. Many players rooted for them and love the winning history, even if it was long ago. Now Cleveland and Tennessee, that's another story.

Fwiw apparently in a deleted Tweet Bosa called Cleveland a run-down hole of a city (not that you can argue with him...). Hope springs eternal, right?

Lol, I wonder if he'd tell them he won't play for them a la Eli Manning & Horseface?

If the Browns end up throwing money at a Mario Williams-Mike Pettine reunion we could easily see them decide to go in another direction.

I don't want to get my hopes up too high, but it's not like we're hoping Andrew Luck falls or anything.

I wonder what nicknames the Browns fans would find for Bosa if that happened.

If we do somehow draft him, you and I can spam his "Welcome to Baltimore" thread with those lyrics.

I don't know how you all can't say that's a penalty in the NFL. If you lead with the crown of your helmet into the quarterback, you're going to get a penalty each time.

Let's think of some others who roll off the tongue well.

Ronnie Stanley is one of them

Vernon Hareagreaves

Jalen Ramsey

But it works best for Bosa...(because that guy's awesome)

Unless you are Burfict and hit Flacco but agreed. You aren't getting ejected for that in the NFL though.

True that.  You would probably end up with a fine and a possible suspension if you did it "intentionally" more than once.

You almost certainly be levied a fine of like $7,500. It's really asinine to think otherwise.

Who is horseface??lol Bosa does look awesome. Have not watched the bowl game yet. Still waiting on that. But damn does he generate a lot of torque out of his stance or redirecting. He needs to show a little more suddenness(although he does show twitch) and moves. Because as of now he is a better run defender. Not sure yet he could play rush LB. He looks slightly stiff but no big deal and not really sure but it could just be a technique thing. Combine will be important for him. As of now he looks between Jared Allen and JJ watt. But needs to show allens savvy. Carl Lawson could be a better fit because of ravens system. Similar to Mack being a better fit than Clowney.
