[News] Dennis Pitta: Return This Year Or Maybe Never

41 posts in this topic

This is it for Pitta, he either comes back this year or gone next, the young talent we have is just so good at TE, it would be hard to justify keeping him next year.....Crockett is the real deal, and is a beast, Maxx is getting better, and Boyle, who knew right....:)

Somebody knew... and it's a good thing that they did.  I like the kid.

The first time he had a 4 month recovery, this time a 13 month recovery. That's a good sign as the 4 month was the minimum time and may have been way too soon.

^-----  This people.  I think that's the only reason that he re-injured it was he came back too soon and pushed it too far.  Only he and the Dr.'s know how far he can go.  If it were you, and if it were your passion...  would you throw it away if you were told you could try?

I'm shocked that that Ryan Mink said "Even if he’s able to come back, the Ravens may not have a place for Pitta" Are you Kidding me???? I can't speak rudely or else i would get banned from commenting on the Ravens site, I'm just shocked and a little mad that Ryan Mink would even say that! First off Mink, yes we have some talented seconded year and two need rookie Tight-Ends all with very great potential. But Denis Pitta is on another level then those three. Not to mention seeing how the Ravens WR's core is a mess with no one really as solid next to Steve Smith we could use a another Great WR to help Steve Smith and the Offense out. It a Plus if he becomes a WR he will take coverage off Steve, With him as WR the Offense could spread it out with 3 WR's Pitta,Smith & Marlin Brown with Forsett as a screen option with Kyle in the back field as well I'm telling you with Pitta as a WR things could go truly epic for the Ravens.

it sucks to hear talk like that but at this point it's kind of a harsh reality. We have 3 up and coming tight ends who we are paying next to nothing - then you have pitta who is costing us a pretty penny that may not even be the same after the injury and has a high risk for re injury . Makes it even harder when he's such an awesome person, and it took me awhile to come to terms with it. But unless he comes back and absolutely lights it up I think this is the last time we will see pitta playing- atleast in purple. Just not enough room for 4- and no way in hell we risk losing Maxx or Boyle.

I agree completely. But nonetheless there's a lot of other things in play now.

"It's not entirely in my hands how the team feels about me playing and if I can potentially add any value to this team," Pitta said.

Yeah, well, you can't make it any worse!

I would go for it, if it were my dream, goal to continue a NFL career. And the team seems to be openly considering this option. He's not just any ordinary player, he's a very talented player, so I can understand why he feels he still has something to contribute to this team, or any NFL team for that matter. He's been with them on the sidelines the whole time, imagine how hard that is to watch games at 1-5 currently. You just know he's excited about potentially playing.

Hip dislocations are typically seen in major car crashes. It is actually quite rare to experience one in athletics, let alone two. This is because it normally takes very strong forces to cause one. The fact that Pitta's most recent dislocation occurred without any contact whatsoever is a major red-flag and not a promising sign for his future.

Here was my take on his injury and prognosis at the start of training camp: http://www.baltimorebeatdown.com/2015/7/13/8950901/dennis-pitta-will-he-play-in-2015

If you read about Hip dislocations and the possibility of surgical intervention, which Dennis needed (both times), you'll find that AFTER the surgery and immediate rehabilitation, it states that...

  • Athletes with type 2-5 posterior dislocations and anterior dislocations may require longer times to achieve weight bearing.

This basically lets me know what I believe happened here.  He Rushed To Get Back!

   It also states that:

"Most athletes with type 1 hip dislocations can return to full activity in 3-4 months. Those with other injuries may require longer time periods to return to sports activity."

http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/86930-treatment#d11

The 13 month rehabilitation gives me way more assurance that he's more likely to be OK.  I just think that instead of passing judgment on a guy who has his heart set on at least trying to return...  we should allow him that much respect.

Even if he can make a comeback, and somehow manages to stay healthy, at his point it isn't going to make much of a difference in 2015. Our season is already pretty much done, unless people somehow expect us to magically start doing amazing, and win at least 9 games in the remainder of the season. Color me skeptical, but the way this team has played, I don't see it happening.
