[News] Eisenberg: Ravens' New Goal Is To Limit Disappointment To One Season

194 posts in this topic

The Ravens had and currently have a player on the team from the Patriots, a coach (DC) who was a part of the staff. Ozzie and Belichek both were in Cleveland. I am not sure what more information is needed but I am going to suggest that the training staff and training habits be evaluated closely due to the sudden brittle-like affect on players resulting in so many major and recurring injuries over the past few seasons.

We can say all we want about selecting better players but until you keep most key starters on the field, you are going to have issues. Factor in injuries along with the loss in FA to top quality and players just coming into their own for multiple seasons in a row and you have a better chance of having the affect on a season shown here. It isn't just one but multiple things that have led the team to its current position, some of which I am sure I haven't mentioned.

I wonder if our guys are overworked in practice or in the training room?  Or underworked?  I don't know, but seems like we get hit by the injury bug way too often.  Maybe it's just bad luck.  Who knows.  At the end of the day, the key injuries to the few playmakers on our squad highlights our complete lack of depth on the roster.  We are scrambling every week it seems to sign anyone who is available.  At this rate, we'll have an entirely different roster come Thanksgiving.

We just haven't drafted well over the past five years- it's as simple as that. That's why we pick up scrubs from other teams as soon as they get cut. That's the bottom line- if we drafted well, or picked up good FAs, then we wouldn't be here where we are today. Also, Oz needs to stop giving out big contracts to injury prone people:

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/ucf-knights/os-ucf-breshad-perriman-nfl-draft-0430-20150429-story.html

How can we draft a player that had knee issues since he was a kid? Said Perriman in an old article: "I remember at an older age, my knees would just give out just walking in random places like in the mall or something," he said. "And everybody would be like, 'Boy, what's wrong with you?'"

It was Osgood-Schlatter disease, a common yet uncomfortable knee inflammation among adolescents. The pain level varies from patient to patient and those afflicted by the condition are sometimes genetically predisposed, as in the case of Breshad Perriman.

What the what!? Who scouts these guys!?

...throw tray out there at corner opposite jimmy smith. See how he responds...Is he that far behind that he can't get snaps for a team decimated at corner? If that's the case, he's not going to help next season, either.

I hear you, FBR. This is pretty disturbing. Also pretty telling that they would give the start to a 4 day walk-on instead of Walker. Pretty sure I saw him give up a td in preseason, but he has not progressed?

..I recall a few years ago they ran a no huddle/hurry up early in the season it was pretty effective. Why the hell dont they dust that off and give it a whirl is beyond me.

I remember that as well. I was at the M&T free practice that year and thought they looked very good in that no-huddle. Pretty sure that transitioned into the sugar-huddle, where I believe plays were still ran in an uptempo fashion. I believe we went away from that since Castillo's ZBS. I believe we do still see that in the two minute drill, but I know you were talking about pre two minute.

The flip side to that I guess is, if you go three and out; then you haven't given your defense much time to rest.

Thanks for some good reads :)

Go RAVENS!

Dear Eisenberg,

A lot of good questions from our fans below. Why doesn't anybody step up and ask these tough questions to Harbaugh?

Are you kidding me? Anything is possible. In football it's still mathematically possible.we'd have to win pretty much every game from here on out. Then the playoffs against some seriously talented teams. If any team could pull a monumental upset it's the Baltimore Ravens. In a way we already did in 2012, because no one in NFL I don't think predicted us getting past Denver. So it's a different group of players this time and odds are way less likely then back then, but I like that persons optimism anyway.

Did you see the game last night? Probably not, coz I can tell youre one of those "I only watch the Ravens" type of person. The team that only scored 3 points beat us so bad last Sunday. Please read the article again. "Playoffs should be expunged from your vocabulary."

If the Ravens make bad teams look like they're headed to the playoffs like the 49ers, how do you expect us to win against teams that are in our schedule? I mean do you even know who we are playing? Probably not. I think you're the one who's kidding. When the Ravens' brass themselves think we're out, you're still there with your pompoms thinking we still have a "mathematically possible" shot. Your optimism is admirable, but ask yourself who's really kidding here.

how do you know what the Ravens brass thinks? Bc of an article by John eisenburg? Yes we made the 49ers look a lot better than they are, but this is still the nfl and any team can win on any given Sunday. A couple calls go the other way and we could easily be sitting at 3-3 or even 4-2. Yeah I know I sound like a broken record. But We have had a lot of bad luck so far, that's not always going to continue, and we have the ability to get hot. Of course it's probably not going to happen- but you can't blame fans for trying to hold onto faith. That's what some fans do. Others are more bold. But No need to be condensing to everybody who doesn't wanna throw in the towel 6 games in. i keep up with every team in the league. I picked up boldin and Torrey for my fantasy team last week and I reaped the benefits.( and I'm picking up john brown for Monday) I'm not stupid, I knew that was inevitable. However I still thought we would find a way to win. And If it wasn't for a stupid challenge, some poor clock management and some flicted turf - we very nearly did. Seems like it's always something this year. We're not a very good team right now , but its not like we're getting blown away. We have talent we're just not playing together as a unit. If we can actually start executing and cutting down on the bonehead mistakes there's no reason we can't stack some wins. Sometimes it takes just going back to the fundamentals. Catching, covering, and tackling . All things we have struggled with. Probably too little too late , but don't expect them to pack it in. At this point I think a lot of fans don't want us to start winning bc they think it's too late to salvage a playoff spot and we'd probably end up 7-9 and screwing up a potential higher draft position. It's understandable, and knowing our luck it's a good possibility. But don't expect this team to tank, this organization has more pride then that. I understand your frustration, but it really doesn't matter what either of us think. Whatever happens is gonna happen...hopefully they start just having some fun and let the chips fall where they may. Edited by January J

I have game pass I watch nearly every NFL game weekly. Quit pretending you know me which you obviously don't. Nuff said.

You have game pass, you watch every game every week, you say that if anyone can pull a monumental upset, it would be the Ravens DESPITE being upset by teams like the raiders, the Browns and the 49ers, you think it's possible for the Ravens to reach the post season despite being 1-5 which ties us with the lowest in the league and (not in chronological order) playing Arizona at home, SD, Miami, Cincy at home, Cleveland at home, Pittsburgh with Ben most likely playing, Seattle, and teams like Jax, kc, and Stl that could have a field day against our garbage secondary. Clearly you are lacking something in the head. Playoffs? You talking about the Ravens in the playoffs? NUFF SAID.

It's mathematically possible. If you are going to pick apart my post at least do so truthfully. Yes nuff said already.

Yea I'm sure it is! How about obtaining a goal and not setting a deadpan goal!

I'm sure that's their goal.

As good as Ozzie has been over the years I find it really hard to believe that he let Stephon Diggs slip through. A 7th round pick and is setting the world on fire in Minnesota. But then we don't really need receivers or punt returners, do we?

Those personalities kept a winning vibe in the locker room, Harbaugh got rid of guys that had that fire to put their teammates in check. I'll take all those players over a coach that can not coach their personalities. It's his way or the highway now we're left with a losing way. Plus Harbaugh straight out lie with no cut, arguing with chip kelly, which I liked, then said he didn't. Saying he didn't have a dog house which he did, he was brought in for discipline it's done now we need someone to come in for winning with mixed personalities.

He didn't get rid of those guys bc of their personalities.  They were cut or traded bc they weren't helping the team.  Ed Reed was declining and still wanted to be paid as a superstar.  He went on to play for 3 teams and was cut from all of them.  Bernard Pollard could hit and was a leader but he couldnt cover anybody and kept getting personal foul penalties.  Nghata was traded because he wouldnt resign with a better contract.  Steve Smith is one of the loudest voices in the entire NFL and Harbaugh loves the guy.  You cannot say it was Harbaugh wanting just his players.
