[News] Late For Work 10/20: Where Marshal Yanda's Contract Ranks Among NFL Guards

44 posts in this topic

Awesome to see Yanda be able to retire a Raven when he hangs up his cleats! Probably the last guy on this team that encompasses what it really means to be a Raven of old. His name belongs with the all time Ravens players and I'm sure he'll not only be in the ring of honor but in Canton as well! Congrats big man!

I had high hopes for Melvin and was a bit shocked when I heard we cut him.

I was impressed with the way he came in late last year, completely cold and hung with his man all game. He missed a few but he was within a couple yards at most and made some nice plays and you could see his enthusiasm. I wonder what got him cut and I sure hope Billicheck doesn't make him a star! I hate that team enough as it is!

conquerworm....not sure what has you so enamored with Pees but some of the things that you quoted i have to respectfully disagree with. 1. You said that DSmith is old and slow.... just last season he played at a probowl level... how did he get so old in one season? 2. You say it is not Pees Fault that WHill played out of position and allowed Torrey to burn SWright? Yes it is... he calls the plays and he sold out to stop the run! (we stop the run well as a team...we dont have to go all out to stop the run)... and why in the world would any DC allow a CB with 4 days of preparation to go one on one with not help over top Torrey? THat is just stupid play calling. 3. You say that it is not the DCs fault that people miss tackles. (yes it is- playing them out of position does that... not being properly prepared and not having a solid grasp of the game plan does that! When a player does it consistently... its a bad player... when a team does it consistently its a bad Coach! You said it yourself our team cant tackle! 4. You say it is not his fault that Arrington sucks in the slot and cant play zone... the thing Arrington was known for coming in is his ability to take away the slot WR and was why at the beginning of this season he was one of the most coveted FA CB's in the league! Just a few months ago... now all of a sudden he cant play the slot or zone? What? 5. DStewart is playing with the top D in the league.... so what does that mean? When we were one of the top Ds in the league They were saying that DStewart couldnt play... and was the week link...noone is calling him the week link in Denver? In fact he is playing at a pro bowl level! 6. What about JIhedigbo??? he was considered a player not good enough to cut it in BMORE... and he is now in Detroit (whos D is playing maybe worse then ours) and he looks like a pro bowler too! How do we explain that???? 7. You say we have no play makers on D???? (Dumerville is one of the best in the league! CJ was a pro bowler as a rookie- BWilliams is widely considered one of the best DL in the NFL, Jimmy Smith just last season was considered one of the top 5 CBs in the game, WIll Hill before coming to BMORE was considered one of the top 3 Safeties in the game... CDavis has to be considered one of the top def rookies of the year, DSmith played at a probowl level just last year) No play makers???? Your drinking Pees kool aid. Not one D player has gotten better since Pees came here! NOT ONE! But nearly all have gotten worse since he got here! WHat does that tell you???? Think about that-seriously... I cannot name ONE defensive player who got better under Pees????? Not one DB has played well since Pees got here... .NOT ONE! Name me one DB who has played well under Pees... they cant all suck can they????? even when the offense struggles and in down years... we had WRs who produced... maybe not enough weapons but always had some WR's play well (Mase, Boldin, Torrey, SSS) not ONE DB has played well since Pees took over... NOT ONE!

Finally an article that's admits that we needed to add another field stretcher to the offense. Why would you only rely on a rookie wr to do it alone. We should've added a player like givens during the offseason so he would be up to speed with the offense already. Perriman an givens on the outside with Steve smith an Gilmore working the middle an a good run game. That's the least that flacco should've had to start the season.

I also think when we lost terrell Austin we lost our ability to develop corners. The technique our corners play with sucks. When I saw Cary Williams play n Seattle he plays with a lot better technique. The corners in Detroit are playing better since Austin got there. I think our secondary coaches are not as good as they once were.

I want to know where my posts here disappeared to. Anytime they get too close to the real truth, an entire article or swath of comments dissappear. At least Eisenberg didn't steal my words for an article this time.... See the self inflicted wounds article with hindsight being 20/20. I still want to know if it is real that our corner backs coach was a punter. Someone said that the other day and I'm floored if that is true. Unreal.

On Belichick, if he wanted him so bad why didn't they take him from the Tampa Bay practice squad like we did last year? Could have had him at any time. Remember that article last year or training camp this year where Pees admitted that he stunted Elam's growth by making him play out of position? I'm remembering that right now.

So...you apoligize for negging me then.....

That's a big negative....Are you seriously concerned about getting negged in a forum that you constantly troll in?  I would think by now you would be used to the red you repeatedly get.

I bet we'd be better off not even drafting a WR. It's some kind of curse to be drafted in the first few rounds by the Ravens, if you're a receiver. I was the number 1 proponent of drafting a WR in the first round. That was all I wanted out of last year's 1st few rounds. Then we got the best tight end in Maxx Williams in the next round, wow! I was stoked, like many people around town. It's unfortunate that we are so terrible at getting WR's in the draft, but we really are snakebitten.

I agree with needing more backups that are game ready, in case you're starting WR or CB goes down with an injury. We need at least 1 more speedy receiver over the next offseason. We're good at TE, so I doubt even Ozzie would seek another TE. We need talent to match up with the likes of Pitt. and Cincy. They are light years ahead of us talent-wise and our record is showing that. Without comparable talent next year, we'll be 1-5 again. Hopefully, we'll use the remaining games this year to find out who's game ready to start or be 2nd string players for next year. I hope we have some options right now on the team and we don't have to totally start over team-building for next year!

I couldn't agree more about what it says here about Perriman. I'm in what seems to be the minority of Ravens fans who still thinks that our selection of Perriman was a good move. Would I like to have already seen him on the field producing? Of Course! But, like the reporter pointed out nobody, and I mean NOBODY, can predict injuries. I think a big mistake with the Perriman situation was the way the Ravens handled all the reports of the injury and its updates on it. Time will tell, of course, but I believe that Perriman does, indeed, possess the ability to become a #1 receiver in the NFL. And I'm more than willing to let his injury Fully heal before he takes the field. I Totally agree where Ozzie made his mistake was in not having a viable option in the event that exactly what occurred would happen. To put All your eggs in one basket, especially when it involved a rookie, 1st rd choice or not, was extremely foolish and we're suffering as a team because of it. I sincerely hope that when Perriman is finally 100% healthy, he will justify his selection as our 1st rd draft choice. I still think that he can and will. I Do believe that Ozzie, as great as he's been over the years, has not quite been his normal sharp and successful self the past several years and that he should give some serious thought to perhaps revising his strategy moving forward as the NFL's game evolves. And I am NOT hating on Ozzie. I just think I've seen a drop in his success lately.
