[News] Late For Work 10/19: 10 Takeaways From Ravens-49ers

145 posts in this topic

My assumption, based on how the coaching staff reacted, was that everyone on the defense knew what the coverage was, and that Wright basically blew it. If you're playing man coverage with no help over the top, getting beat deep is not an option. You can give up a short or intermediate completion in front of you all day long, but you can't get beat deep.

Falling for a double move from a player who really only runs a small segment of routes is a gigantic mistake, regardless of whether there's help over the top or not.

bingo. And I don't care if he was only here for 3 days or 30 minutes- it's common sense and completely unacceptable.

I understand fans frustration but there is no way we should fire one of the best head coaches in the league because he has his second bad season in 8 years. He is part of the problem but I guarantee he is working hard to fix it. He is probably sleeping in his office for crying out loud. Pees doesnt call Ravens smash mouth football and Tressman seems to have Joe all screwed up. No cap room = back up players starting when they shouldnt be. Their back ups are practice squad players. No leaders on the field. Joe has no confidence in his receivers besides SSS. Did I mention no cap room? If you follow all of our issues besides coaching they all lead back to cap room and all the dead money we have.

You mention dead money and cap space. Both things the team has control over. Whether fans want to acknowledge it or not, it's true. I'm not saying they purposely made things the way they are, but it is all of their doing. Like it or not. No one else to blame.

With the general exception of Ray Rice, you are correct.

If I was Ozzie, I would trade Steve Smith to the Giants or Packers who are in need of receivers. That way he'll have a legitimate shot at the super bowl and we would get something in return. Then Ozzie can sign someone off the street to play our #1 WR.

Ozzie may be interested in signing a few of us fans to play WR. We may all not be 6'5", but I imagine we are just as good at not being able to catch a pass as Marlon Brown and just think of the cap space it would free up!! The fact that they still have him on the roster speaks volumes of the talent level on the team at the position (other than SSS).

Are we trying to lose out for Bosa? I traveled to SF for the game, and I simply see a team that doesn't care about winning enough. Outside of Steve Smith who is on his last leg playing his heart out, who do you see brining their all and playing with passion? We have 0 leadership on defense. We are missing the vocal leaders that rally the troops to make those important stops and get our offense back on the field. We used to have a slow to start inconsistent offense who could get away with 2 field goals in the first half because our defense would hold teams in check and make stops when it mattered. We no longer have that luxury, and with the defense that we put on the field, our offense must be efficient, and score TD's. They can't go on 2 quarter droughts and expect to win. Pees and the Secondary coach, have to go. I honestly think we should draft the top rated pass rushers available our first two rounds of this draft. Without Mchphee and Suggs, Dumervil is the only one who can get after it, but he needs to play less snaps to be at his best late in games. Shoot, if we get the No.1 pick we struck 1st Round gold because Goff will go for 2 extra first rounders. Maybe that is the plan...

The O line jogging ... to me, that's on Joe. Every QB in the league in this same situation is animated - kicking the offense in the butt to get to the line and clock the ball (which we failed to do on the play before that completion, costing us at least 20 seconds ... nearly a half of the time that remained on the clock).

Sure, you can say they shouldn't need that, but I don't think Joe sprinted past them ... he was right along side them jogging up the field.

The one I'm going to let go is the "costly penalties" issue that's plagued us. Why? Because it didn't really in this game. That Jimmy Smith penalty doesn't count. The penalty actually has to occur for me to consider undisciplined play.

I can't help but think how different things would be if Suggs hadn't gotten hurt and if Perriman had started the season healthy. I'm sure just those two things being different would probably have us no worse than 3-3 right now. You could even make the case for 6-0.

They can't overpay. There is a rookie pay scale. The only things negotiated (other than "language) are number of years on 1st contract and guaranteed money. Gathering more picks is good but our track record is really not that good in recent years.

Um no, you misunderstand. When a team trades too many draft picks to move up a few spots for a player like an RG3 or a Trent Richardson, they "overpay". (money is irrelevant).

It didn't help, for sure. But maybe we were just deluding ourself into ever thinking we were that good. We did get beat up ugly by the Eagles in our preseason with Suggs on the field. Everyone chalked it up to not having planned for them, but in retrospect I think we just weren't as good a team. My bet is we may have won a couple more of these overtime games with a deep threat and better pass rush, but most of our issues haven't really been putting points up, they have been poor coverage and tackles by the secondary. A better pass rush of course helps the corners a bit, but for the QBs that can release quickly or scramble we would still have real problems. The Ravens are half a team right now, even with the injured guys. A good corps to build around but we are far from replacing Reed, Lewis, Ngata. I'm just happy we've adequately replaced Rice and Pitta. Jury is still out whether we've replaced Torry Smith.

Aaaaand that brings us back to the main issue that basically is:

who in his right mind would leave SHAREECE WRIGHT (not Deion Sanders) one on one against ANYBODY, not just Torrey and his speed...

I mean...9 players in the box and the two CBs one on one is PURE INSANITY...

Time for Pees to go...

The bottom line is Joe Flacco is throwing INTS! People keep Blaming The Defense and it's not their fault some just find it convenient to put it on them instead of the QB! Just like blaming Torrey aga the pats when it's on film Marlon was opwn across the middle Joe could of ran up the sidelines or Justin should have got the ball but no one will put it on Joe just pass blame on Pees because it's convenient! Count the INTS this season or I guess people don't like FACTS that too much like rite SMH! Joe threw it rite to 49ers like they had on Ravens jerseys and no one has a problem with that it's Pees fault for those INTS! SMH!

@OLD SCHOOL SMASH....This is a bad dream, however, our road games next year in addition to the division games are at Dallas, NY Giants, NY Jets, the last place finisher in the AFC South(Jaqs, Titans, or Texans) and (drum roll please) at New England.

LOL 10 Takeaway's from this game? All the fans really need is 1 and that is this team and it's coaching staff absolutely suck at everything. The defense has no heart at all and our DB's (all of them) are not worth a flying crap. Joe has no weapons on offense and the play calls from Trestman are not helping out all. And Harbaugh has 0 Clock Management skills and is horrible at challenges. This team is a joke, need to ship out the entire back end of the defense and get rid out of outr 2,3,4,receivers who aren't even good enough to play special teams on any other team in the league.

Explain the Cleveland loss then... when there were no INTs...

He's on pace for 18-19 INTs, which would be less than the 22 he threw in 2013, and we somehow managed to win 8 games that year.

Also, please provide me an explanation for how a 6-0 football team has the league leader in interceptions thrown playing for it...

(Hint, I already know the answer, and it absolutely shatters your entire argument).

uhhh no, that's wanting to stop the run and/or get to the quarterback. if you get it done before he gets a play off: great!

if he gets off a short pass: ok, at least the field is shorter. keep doing that and there will be no deep ball to worry about.

Shareece Wright is a professional cornerback and no rookie, he should know that his job on that play is to back up. nothing more. That play isnt designed to stop a pass. corners shouldnt be trying to jump routes there. its not Pees' fault that Wright doesnt understand a very basic defensive concept. If you play call to baby sit players on the most basic of situations, you will never win. Greg Mattison used to do that a lot. you want the prevent zone with a 3 man rush defense back? cuz that

s pretty much what you're asking for.

Pathetic. Absolutely and utterly pathetic. Other than a few players (SSS, Yanda, and I draw a blank from there on out), everyone if playing like they even don't care for some part of the game or another. This team has the talent to win the Super Bowl, but only couple of players have the wish to do it. At least that's what it looks like from the TV screen.

6) Did Kamar Steal TD Catch From Brown? Thank god Kamar caught it because we all know Marlon can't catch a football even if he isn't going to be getting hit.

Yeah, it's our defense for sure. It's almost impossible to lose to an average (or below avg.) team like Baltimore when you're setting season high numbers for passing yards, like 4 times this year vs. our awful defense. I don't think we've faced a team with as bad a defense as ours. Wait do we play Jax. this year???? No, but even if we did, by the end of the game, their QB would look like Joe Montana. And, if we played N.E. this year, they'd put a hurtin' on us that we'd remember for years. Like someone here said a few weeks ago, when we were getting 10 -15 penalties a game (mostly of defense), 'If our defense wasn't on the field they might take longer to scrore.'

Where the heck is Perriman? News just vanished. Its too late now to help the team but this is when the rookies and young guys will start to get more reps so next year isn't a huge adjustment. He needs to get experience.

On to the next game. Can it really get any worse? According to all the talking heads a resounding YES. We will see. Sorry my Ravens but we just don't have the right players right now. It is really hard watching these games and I can only imagine how the players feel playing it.
