More appropriate to pick out the few players who don't deserve to get bashed. On offense... Yanda, Juice, our TEs, SSS (despite a couple drops, we'd be so much worse without him). On defense....... Guy, Williams....honestly can't think of any others.

I would add D. Smith and Dumervil, they're actually playing pretty well all things considering. As much as I like Will Hill, he's been surprisingly quiet the past few games.

Nope. Many of us are huge fans of Clarence Brooks

Of course you are, although his name hasn't been mentioned in the last decade by these boards ever.

Its mentioned NOW because he's tenured, you're looking for somebody to replace Pees, and he's about the only one possible, considering his unit is the best unit on the defense.

Selective memory or reading on your part perhaps?  Brooks is mentioned often in these posts and I'm not just talking about this season.

Can't blame Jimmy. Can't blame a player who's being utilized the wrong way. He's meant to press receivers with his long frame, not play 10 yards off every snap.

Get Pees out of here.

Yes, any time people want Dean Pees to be fired, he is mentioned (because he's really the only one that can be mentioned). Anytime we had a DC that people liked, his name is not mentioned. That's how this works.

It doesn't matter if his unit is performing well or not, because the discussion about him only exists in the context of people saying that he should be the interim DC.

I remember him being discussed when Harbaugh got fiery after a call-in fan suggested he should be fired for not coaching Terrence Cody to be the star he was born to be - http://articles.baltimoresun.com/2010-12-09/sports/bs-sp-cowherd-column-1209-20101208_1_john-harbaugh-ravens-clarence-brooks. Maybe a coincidence that Harbs doesn't do many radio shows anymore lol.

Plenty of people appreciate(d) him even though he does get more discussion as a Pees replacement recently.

Sure.

For me, its also somewhat of a "red flag" if you will. After all, all we talk about is how our defensive coaches get taken away from us annually by other teams, go on to become coordinators elsewhere, etc., and yet Clarence has been here for 11 years, the longest tenure by far.

He's been here through great defenses, great coaches, great players, etc. Maybe its just loyalty on his part, and that's completely fine. But he's seen guys like Rex, Pagano, etc. come through, and none of those guys wanted to bring him in as a DC on their teams when they went to be a HC.

Maybe its nothing, maybe its something. We bash Pees by saying that "nobodies knocking on his door for a HC gig", and that means he's not a very good coordinator. By that same logic... I haven't heard anybody knocking on Brooks' door for DC gigs either, and if we're applying the same logic... what does that tell us?

timmy Jernigan. this guy was supposed to take over for nghata? this was a 2nd round player that we were told slipped out of the 1st round and the ravens made a steal. he slipped for a reason because he can't pout pressure on the QB or shed blockers to stop the run.

Even though I'm not "blaming" them for the way we're playing (on not playing).. where are Suggs and Canty?  When Ray Lewis and Ed Reed were sidelined with injuries they were right there giving pointers, showing encouragement as the guys came off the field, giving them tips on reading plays, coaching to a degree.  Steve Smith was right there last week.  These guys need a veteran presence right now, why can't Suggs and Canty be on the sideline?

CJ Moseley has played pretty poor this year compared to last. He has been a negative factor in far too many big plays during our losses for someone we are counting on to lead the defense far into the future. Blown coverages, missed tackles, not shedding blocks, etc. I have been really disappointed with our whole LB corps, but he stands out.

Got juked out by Andy Dalton

Burnt regularly by Barnidge. Missed tackle on Niners' FB. The list goes on and on.

Yeah the fumble return is nice but he needs to step it up

Um, I have been complaining about Pees from jump....Flacco is certainly not without blame, but he at least gives us enough points to win....its the Soft Zone Prevent Defense he is hitching his wagons to that has to go....the sooner the better....or Better yet, just get rid of Pees

I never bought into timmy ever replacing ngata.   I thought the moment ngata was traded we were in major trouble.  but we werent initially...at least on run defense.   People do forget though that ngata took 2-3 guys on every plays, which did some amazing things for suggs/doom.   This year...right out of the gate, I felt the difference on the broncos game.

Ngata is a FA next year.  Better yet, he is going to be a whole lot cheaper than if we would've gave him the extension last year.

I can see us at least offering him something, and have him think about comming back to us next year.

I wouldn't count on it but he is eligible to play for the first time this upcoming Monday night. However I think we may see him sometime in the next few weeks. If so I'm guessing he will be worked in very slowly until he shows he's able to hold up. Edited by January J

CJ honestly doesn't look like himself. He started the season out strong but appears to be in a sophmore slump. It happens. I have no doubt he can eventually return to form. And Jimmy is still in the process from recovering from injury.

Some people will just never be happy I guess

Vince.  The guy who sells hot dogs in section 519.  He is all over the place for the first quarter, but when I get hungry in the third he is nowhere to be found. He is terrible.

Bonnie.  The girl that scans my ticket on the way in.  She shines that red light right in my eyes.
Terrible.

Dont even get me started on Joe in the parking lot..... I dont have time for all he does wrong.

Jackie from the accounting section for M&T Bank is awful too. Just sell the franchise.

Then why do we want him back if that's so?

Below avg with Lions.  He does much better us.   I have a odd feeling this conversation isn't anything related with Ngata and its personal.  Its common sense answers..

Or, he DID do much better with us.

I have no idea why we would trade a player because he costs a lot, wait for him to play worse, then bring him back. Just doesn't seem logical at all.

All moot, because its not happening anyway.

Happened a lot of times in NFL.   I know what works and ill be happy to have ngata back.

In your case, familiarity breed contempt.

Examples? Particularly of cases where it happens to a player within a year?

If you'll notice, you're kind of alone in thinking this is a possibility. I'd argue it'd be a step in the wrong direction for what the defense is trying to accomplish long term. I think the idea is to see more of Carl Davis/Jernigan, not less.

Keep in mind that the guy, even now, would still probably fetch $4-5M a year with significant guaranteed money, and that's probably on the low end. There's not a person on this planet that thinks he's $5M better than Davis or Jernigan at the moment.

No i think it is highly possible Ngata can come back.   I'm not going to name all the names of players going to different team only to fail that came back to have success in their old team.  Its too many.

i would say(again) that Ozzie will offer Ngata something to have him at least think about comming back.   You say hypothetically 4-5m a year for ngata?  I would jump on that easily.

As for Carl he definitely was doing admirable work, but now he has a serious injury after only 4 games.   Jernigan had multiple injuries on limited snap.  I don't think Ngata will take any of their snaps any more than carl/jernigan can handle.  In fact, I think it'll help both those guys will do a whole lot better with Ngata than without.

It's funny to me because people want to disrupt our best unit by moving him to DC. What did Tony Starks tell Loki... "Not a great plan."

Just deal with it people. There is no reason to move people other than players around now.

Why exactly do you think he will be cheaper?

If Ngata is getting paid 16 mil per next year(which was his cap last year and would have been his cap this year), then someone is overpaying. Don't think we bring him back anyways though unless he is really cheap but he is too big a name at this point for me to realistically see that.
