Ravens reach extension with G Marshal Yanda

53 posts in this topic

congrats on Yanda.  But avg 8m/year for RG?  Wow.

There is no way a RG is worth that much can they?  I'm hoping it is team friendly.... somehow.     We need to retool next year.   It is going to cost us next year.

I heard it was an average of 7.1M. That's not too bad. It may be $8M annually since I'm not sure how they figured their number, but even then it's pretty much commensurate with what he got last time when you take cap inflation into account.

People who will say "great another old guy". Interior Olinemen can be productive till their mid 30s. They have long lifespans. We're getting a pretty solid deal

How much is guarenteed is the true question here. Even then Yanda is an elite guard, and will probably be so for about 3/4 seasons. And that is beyond invaluable.

Some players are worth every penny. Franchise Qbs, and elite Olinemen are some of them

@RapSheet: The 4-year extension for #Ravens G Marshal Yanda is worth almost $32M, source said. He gets a $9M signing bonus, $17.8M in guarantees.

@AaronWilson_NFL: Ravens guard Marshal Yanda deal has roughly $15 million guaranteed and $7.16 million average per year

Take your best guess.

Like someone else said Yanda is good enough to set the market. He will be the highest paid RG in the league and deservedly so.

I know I'm gonna be negged because Yanda is a favorite among Ravens fans (myself included), but I have to look this objectively: didn't like it. Too much money.

Usually, guards' production drop pretty quickly. I love Yanda and he's the best guard in the league now, but he's also 31. He will not be up there for long. If you don't believe me, just look this stuff up. Guards, even if they are great for quite a long time, can get washed-up fast. I usually work with the idea that you have to draw up contracts based on what you're expecting from the player, not what you've seen already.

I certainly like Yanda and I'm glad he will retire as a Raven, but that's too much money.

1. Guard production does not drop quickly

2. Only $15 million is guaranteed over four years. If he starts to suck it's not a lot to eat

3. I think we're expecting Yanda to continue doing well.

4. Remember also that the cap is expanding every year. 7 million won't be all that much in year four of this deal.

Correct, not to mention there are 4 other guards that have higher annual salaries, that aren't better players. I think it's a good deal for the best player on our roster, have to reward those guys.

If you're looking for leadership, production, and disability on the OL look no further than Yanda. He does a lot for us, sets the tone, and can help coach up other players.

He's also scheme versatile and could be our emergency RT in a pinch.

Yep. If we can't keep Wagner or if he doesn't regain form, we could slide Yanda to RT and be just fine.

At his age, which would be like 33 at the time, not sure that works. He's an EMERGENCY RT for a reason... it means you don't plan on him being a RT.

Can he sub as a RT if needed? Sure, but as a starting RT, I don't see how our offensive line is better.

He played almost if not the entire season at RT in, I believe, 2009. If you're saying he's not a long-term option, I agree. I do think he could still play there for a season.

I think he could but there would be a drop off for sure compared to his Guard play and I don't see how it would be worth it.
