[News] Torrey Smith Almost 'Cried Like A Baby' Leaving Baltimore

51 posts in this topic

Torrey didn't fight for he last pass as a Raven that ended our season, whether or not Flacco shouldn't have thrown that pass is one thing, but Torrey didn't become a defender and keep hope alive, every good thing he done washed away with that. How many PI's vs spectacular catches does, dez, aj, Beckham, etc have.

I bet Torrey will have a career high game this weekend against us. Jimmy better not treat him like another AJ

Torrey contributed more to the Ravens winning over the years than Jimmy Smith yet they had money to sign Jimmy, previously gave Webb a contract, and gave Pitta (who broke his hip a deal). None of those 3 are helping the Ravens now. It's all about who an organization chooses to pay.

I think it is also, and more importantly, what the organization is willing to pay. It was reported that the Ravens had offered Torrey 35 million. In my mind Torrey left home for 5 million bucks. I'm sure he would have made that up with endorsements if he had stayed. There's no way he is loved in San Fran the way he was loved in Charm City.

Mink,

First of all, don't try to spin this story about it not working out for Torrey because of his production numbers- it is working out because the 49ers did see what he brings to the 49ers as far as stretching the field. Moreover, don't also deny the fact that Torrey led the league in PI calls last year- so it's not fair to imply he didn't have a productive last year. In terms of his numbers, and to validate my point, in terms of Anquan's numbers, production has been down because they're trying to covert Kap into a pocket passer. As we all know, because we're in close vicinity to that DC team, this experiment doesn't work - RG3 for example. So please don't imply it's not working out for Torrey because the 49ers are smart enough to realize that Torrey is not the issue but rather it's Kaps issue. So just because Ozzie hasn't given a huge contract to a WR (bc he thinks he can "rent a receiver"), Torrey is doing very well because he's getting a lot more money than what the Ravens could offer. I will never forgive/ understand why Ozzie keeps paying multi-millions to WRs that are close to past their prime (e.g. Lee Evans, Torrey Smith, Derrick Mason, etc..). How is Flacco going to be that trusted relationship that Brady has with Gronk? No offense, Oz, but you screwed up with Torrey because not only was he young, productive, and one of our own (hometown kid), but you chose (probably Harb's doing as well bc it was well documented that Harbs loved SSS) to pay Steve Smith a couple of million when you could've had a receiver that was entering his prime and decided to give more money to a "rent a receiver, old receiver," in SSS over the original.

Joe Flacco makes no mistakes. Had to be Torrey's fault. Either the line wasn't blocking right or the WR didn't get open enough. Maybe blame the OC for the call even... but certainly not Joe.

We better get a decent and reliable receiver before Flacco gets too old to throw the ball anymore. Or we'll have an even bigger problem (no receiver and no qb).

Right, I want Steve to light a fire under Harbaugh, I remember the post season report after the bad season following the super bowl. They can blame it on injuries but our offense is scoring and our secondary is healthy, it's a lack of the right leadership. Side note, have anyone seen Suggs on the sideline motivating his teammates? I'm sure Ray would be out there injured...

Suggs is out there

Hey Torrey I almost cried when Joe threw you that pass and they had you covered over and under and they blamed you but didn't blame Joe because they showed the picture from behind Joe "BEFORE" he released the ball the safety was already 5yds from you and he threw our season away! Should of ran Forsett on that play he had a "MONSTER" day plus Joe could of ran up the sidelines Hurst "PANCAKED" his man clearing the way! Things we missed wasn't showed that week either! These are FACTS! The safety said "He didn't look me off" what happened to what they said after the game like they did this week! A Super Bowl hangover would make up for this very very very bad start to a season! I'm sorry but these are FACTS! Red me up but people point fingers at everyone but the QB whom I like but like I said these are FACTS!

lol on that play brown was wide open underneath as well.

its pretty funny that flacco said he saw the safety and still decided to make the throw and people still place no fault on him but everything on torrey.

heck the ball was placed towards the middle of the field where the safety was and not the side line.....

Torrey's production was more replaceable than a potential shut-down corner (aside from Joe's reliance on the patented pass interference-based offense). Smith isn't lighting it up in San Fran, and Jimmy Smith isn't lighting it up here. I suspect the common culprit in each case is coaching.

I'd call 11 TDs pretty productive, the most any Ravens WR since the 90s had. We miss Boldin and Torrey both. They were a good WR tandem, and this front office messed up in not keeping them. Any money we "saved" on them, was not exactly spent on any other player of real value since anyway. Sr. may be a good player, but I'd rather still have Boldin, who was a monster possession guy. He wasn't perfect, and wasn't fast, but he had great hands and a lot of power for a WR. And Torrey, who also wasn't perfect, WAS a great WR for us. As a duo, they helped us win a SB.

Torrey Smith is a class act. There are those on this board who, unbelievably, think that he ran for the money. What was he supposed to do? Stay and get low-balled? Any of us who is working a job that we really love, when presented with a great opportunity to make our family more comfortable, we'd all jump on it. The ones who don't are either crazy, or the boss has some blackmail-ish stuff over their heads. Torrey did his thing here, and he did a great job. I always remember how he would turn it up a notch against Pittsburgh. Rather than snicker and be snide about Torrey, show him some love, but cheer for our Ravens this Sunday. Torrey is cheering for the 49ers.

You're absolutely right about Torrey being a class act. Not too many better. But, come on, Low-balled?!? The Ravens offered him 35 million dollars. He left because the 49ers offered him 40 million. And you're actually saying that he left to make his family more comfortable. Are you telling me his family couldn't be "comfortable" with 35 million dollars? Let's tell the truth. All these players today are greedy. Plain and simple. Yeah, so are the owners. But, don't kid yourself, even the "class" players are greedy. They're not crazy or being blackmailed by the boss. They're greedy. I don't know about you, but I could make my family VERY comfortable with 35 million dollars and never have to work another day in my life. You know, I can remember when professional athletes actually had off-season jobs. These guys today are spoiled and the ones who have spoiled them are the fans. They are the ones who seem willing to pay Any price the greedy owners want to charge to watch the greedy players play. The fans complain about the prices as they continue to reach into their wallets to pay those ridiculous prices. I know I'll get negged like the dickens for saying all this, but that doesn't mean I'm wrong. The owners And the players Are greedy and it's because we let them be. I pay just a couple hundred dollars a year to watch Every game played with my Direct-TV NFL Ticket. That, to me, seems a lot more reasonable than paying a ransom ( PSL ) for the Right to buy a season ticket. A Right! Simply Ridiculous! Fellow football fan, anybody who can't make their family comfortable enough on 35 million dollars doesn't know how to manage their money.

Thinking about adding Torrey to my FF team...think he may have a big game vs. us...he's probably hyped for it and with our recent secondary play and Pees scheme, I wouldn't be surprised.

I don't think Smith ever wanted to leave the Ravens. We as fans didn't know what we had until he left. If I had to bet I would say Smith will be a Raven again someday.

I cry to overtime I spend money going to watch this rubbish.

Tell me about it. The NFL experience is expensive. If this keeps up I won't be spending my hard earned money on it.
