[News] Late For Work 10/14: Four Reasons Ravens Shouldn't Make Another Trade

80 posts in this topic

Don't need to make any more trades! The Ravens are about to make up for lost ground and go on a 11 game win streak! They look so good against the Browns but not coming out passing in OT killed them! 1-4 to the Super Bowl! LETS GO!

That's always the question, right? No one wants to bail on a season and say "Let's get draft picks," but if we don't, then where do we end up next year? Or the year after that? In a salary-capped league, it seems virtually impossible to stay really good for very long. Unless you cheat like the Patriots.

I had to face reality after the horrible loss the the Browns. This season is a wash. As a fan I would prefer to see all of our young guys out there. I mean, can they really play any worse then what we currently have? Start preparing for next year where we will have to make some tough decisions. Do we keep KO or Yanda? Tucker gets paid for sure. Aiken and Marlon are free agents next year and SSS is retiring. Let Waller, Givens, Ross and eventually Perriman get some very valuable game experience.

I wanted to buy a new Ravens jersey, but for the life of me can't think of anyone that may still be on the roster in 2 years or lose them when their rookie contracts expire(except Flacco) We need interchangeable names and numbers!

No more trades we need to stockpile our draft picks as we are going to need to rebuild ... A lot of bad contracts to Webb we shouldnt have done Jimmy Smith is not worth the money he is getting. He hasnt had a full season and hasnt done much in the time he has played.

explore trading our aging veterans for draft picks after we lose another game or 2. dummervil, webb, daryl smith could bring us a couple of 5th-6th rounders. maybe a 4th from doom from potential playoff teams. if we cannot keep both kelechi or yanda than trade one of them for a early draft pick or for an impact player in return such as a pass rusher, receiver or cb. just a thought front office

The Ravens luckily are in a conference that has zero talent. Like I said they can easily still make the wild card and I think that is what they are pushing for. They have the talent to stay in games against top teams like the Bengals and Broncos. If they make the defensive changes now and win games... We are almost to the easiest part of our schedule that had all the tough match ups at the beginning. Any team that makes it to the play offs has a shot at the super bowl. I mean look at the Giants in 2011-2012 Giants and the 2012-2013 Ravens. Ravens lost 3 of their last 4 that year and nobody thought they were going anywhere in the play offs and then they made a historic super bowl run. Just a thought we are not a bad team we are staying in games with who they consider the top (Bengals and Broncos) and we should have won both. I think it is just a change of focus that can still save the season. But then again I'm drinking that purple kool-aid and even if we were 0-8 I would say there was a chance. But in reality there is a shot but I don't think it is worth trading for another player unless we start a big win streak.

Why not bring back Means... He knows the system and showed some flashes before he was cut, he is also still young and cheap.

My argument against accumulating more draft picks is that we haven't been hitting on draft picks. We seem to do better with undrafted free agents than we do players from the 5th round and farther down. Yes, we did keep Waller and Boyle who were late rounders but we cut Myers, a 5th rounder, before resigning him to the practice squad after he had been on other practice squads and released. The list is quite long. Why accumulate draft picks unless they can prove effective unless the strategy is draft all day and HOPE you get a good one. OR you can just trade the picks for someone you know is good. How many picks have we had over the past several years and other than Mosely, who have we gotten that is pro bowl caliber? Trade the picks for a known quantity in a receiver or cornerback because we know we can't develop these guys. All these late round compensation picks are just something for the FO to do on the third day of the draft. For the most part, like Myers, Jah Reid and Marc Anthony, we just end up cutting them later down the road.

At the moment we are 1-4 with 11 games left. To get a wild card spot I'm thinking best case scenario is we can get in with a 9-7 record. Do you believe that we can win 8 out 11 games? I just can't see it happening brother.

All we can do now RavensNation is not give up on our team. They're not giving up, even if they suck, bad coaching, bad penalties, you name it.

The Ravens may be broken but we sure aren't done fighting. Our it will take 3 solid games to get to .500, no matter what, we as fans need to come to the realization that, our team isn't perfect. Like life, you aren't always served the fancy dinners. Sometimes you need to eat ramen or drink some water.

All we can do is hope for another win instead of complaining, pointing fingers and yelling at each other.Truth is regardless how bad they play, most of us will still watch them on sundays. Ravens for life

Why not try and trade players that we know will be leaving next year? Maybe we can get a few draft picks or a younger less impactful player with more of a future than players like Suggs, Doom, Yanda, Webb, Canty, Monroe, Shaub, Forsett, SSS, ect. I pains me to write those names, it does but we need to look to the future and they are not it. If you neg me please let it be for saying to let Yanda go :o

Does everyone think the Ravens are the only AFC team sucking it up right now!  KC, Phins, and others aren't very far behind.  We just may very well be like the NFC was last year.  Didn't a 7-9 team make it to the tournament???  I know we have issues...  trust me.  Call me an eternal optimist, but I'm keeping the faith for now.

As for the draft picks???  I'm with Cobra and a few others.  Hang on to them for Draft day.  We can use them to move up if needed.

At this point in the season and given where we are with little to no hopes of making the playoffs, I say draft picks are a premium. Especially considering the fact that we may very well end up with a top 10 pick for the first time in God knows how long! I hate to say it, but I would keep it status quo right now and play the young players so the cream rises to the top and we can assess where we are next year for our draft. As for coaching, it would be best to defer to the front office and Harbaugh. If he is comfortable with all the coaches he has, leave him be. He will assume responsibility for our success or lack thereof finally. But, I still think he is just the man for the job.

7-9 got in as a division winner. We will not win this division with a 7-9 record. LOL

The season is over and it's time to plan for the future. Lots of questions to consider on both sides of the ball... not to mention the F.O. and coaching staff. One point most will not mention... our batting average on high draft picks has taken a beating in recent drafts. Need to figure out what is wrong here prior to the upcoming draft or next year will be a re-run of this one.

I don't think we'll have much of a choice on where we draft next season as I don't think we're going to hurt what is looking to be a high draft position much this year. If I had to guess, it's looking like we'll draft in the top 6 as it stands now.

I've been saying for over a month, keep our draft picks and let these underachievers we keep picking up, end up on another team. We have enough of them already! I'd trade 6 of the guys we just picked up, for one good one!

No, but maybe wildcard.  Oh and a 7-9 Division winner???  Isn't that even worst???  Just sayin'. never say never

When the secondary coverage plays 10 yards off of the receivers constantly, there is no way any defense can succeed. Underachieving is not totally the players fault.

All of our remaining games are against HOF caliber QBs, and our 2ndary has the unenviable task of trying to contain them. The remainder of the season is not looking good for Dean Pees and crew.

"Since a strong performance Week 1 against the Broncos..." The Denver offense is not exactly setting the world on fire with 2 games having NO offensive touchdowns.

A 7-9 record assumes we'll win 6 of the remaining 9 games. I am not sure we'll do that considering the way we're playing and all the mounting injuries with no end in sight.

we have the talent(young talent) so thats not a problem, we lack leadership and good coaching on the defensive side of the ball

Like I said yesterday, Suggs has probably played his last game as a Raven, start working the phones and see if someone is willing to pick up his salary and trade him, or if they are willing to give us several draft picks, then trade him. That should go for just about everyone on the team except for players we should not part with. I would rather see the practice squad on the field then some of the players that look like they are just going thru the motions to pick up a pay check.

One of the best recommendations for rehiring Chuckie Pagano as defensive coordinator is that somebody named Irsay can't get along with him.

The chance of a 7-9 wild card in this conference is slim to none...hopefully it's more on the slim side for the Ravens :)

Just because we make them look like HOF caliber QBs doesn't mean they are. Kaep, Bortles, Foles, McCown, Tannehil, Smith, Dalton are Hall of Fame caliber?
