Ravens Restructure Zuttah Contract

22 posts in this topic

Just clearing space for future injuries. Before this restructure, with the addition of Wright (assuming minimum salary), we only had about $1M in cap space left.

Just like Rmw10  said it really doesn't mean anything besides just extra cap space for emergencies and what not.

Ehh not my favorite move, kicking the can down to next year. Pretty much guarantee's he's he next year, which I guess is ok since he is better than gradkowski

We really can't complain about kicking the can down the road when we don't have any other cap clearing options. Had to be done.

I would have like another Center, I doubt he'll be gone next season. Not saying he's bad but he's not great either. On some given days he can be great, average or terrible. Still I guess the extra cap will be useful eventually.

It really didn't have to be done.

Jimmy Smith

Kyle Arrington

Ladarius Webb

Tray Walker

Charles James ( bring him up)

Melvin

Brooks

Lewis

Hill

Levine

Trawick

They don't need to sign another cast off cb to this dumpster fire, let the young guys play and probably get torched but learn something as opposed to the veterans play and get torched and show no effort

The restructure doesn't feel like a guarantee of him being here next year.  Set up to pay him 2015 salary as a signing bonus.  If he is traded, it reduces the impact to the cap.  We have Urschel/Jensen as viable replacements at the Center position.  Their salary demands are less,

I see a bigger bodied center in Jensen being able to do battle with larger NT's more efficiently in PP than Zuttah.

Needed the cap regardless of whether it was a CB or a LS.

Ravens create 1.22 mil of cap by redoing his deal. No derails on if it's an extension but it probably is.

Trade coming?

Yes, the trade did come.  CB Sheerce Wright as Will Davis heads to IR with his 2nd ACK in 10 months.

Whose fired up to try getting Flacco to restructure this offseason

No need to get fired up.  I fully expect him to create at least $10M in cap space in 2016 if not more.  Sometimes "kicking the can down the road"" (as someone above mentioned is a good thing.

I think it makes it way more likely that he stays, I think they could save about 1.7 million if he was cut next year, now that savings will be only like $700k, not worth cutting for a starting quality oline player

It's the opposite. We just pushed more money into the future, and it's guaranteed money at that.

Even if traded, the Ravens will still have dead money to pay on the amount that was taken off of this years cap, for Zuttah.

Is it me or does Zuttah come off more as a finesse blocker then a power one. I have seen him get pushed around by bigger NT and DT's and wonder if maybe next season we should start looking into more of a power blocker type center.

Yes, this is accurate. There are some finesse blockers that have an element of power in their game, but Zuttah is not one of them. He's purely a finesse center.

I don't mind pushing his money into the future a bit since by then we'll be done with a big chunk of the dead money.

How is that calculated?  Is it a for the entire sum that was taken off?

This.  It doesn't matter who they were going to sign, they were going to need the Cap space (especially since it's only week 6 and they are probably going to have more injuries and have more injury replacement costs).

The alternative would have been to only carry 52 players or not carry guys on the PS for the rest of the year.

... Why are people complaining about this move? The chances of us getting a crazy, good center next year aren't really high. He is decent depth, can play efficiently in a zone block scheme when clicking, and i do believe he can play guard IF necessary. WHY not keep him around, for ONE more year?
