[News] Late For Work 10/12: Is Ravens' Season Over? What They're Saying

207 posts in this topic

To sum it up: I had some pressing things to do but decided to watch the game instead. Afterwhile, I was able to walk away from the tv and do the pressing stuff instead without wishing I was watching 'the team'. The penalties, the coaching, the injuries, the fact that the lowly Browns were allowed to shine so bright made the decision easy.

Team is together, just very young, and key injuries to key players....Hard to over come injuries to both starting OLBer's, starting CB, and WR's going down like our CB's did last year....

The worst part is in preseason and training camp the front office thought we had a good team!? HOW?, WHO?, WHY!!?? WE need new coaching and maybe some help with drafting actual talent and some better judgement in the front office. We have no pass rush and no secondary. Exactly what did they expect? If the Ravens win 8 games it will be a wonderful season and surprise me.

We are missing a lot of heart on this team right now. There is not a solid vocal leader right now with Suggs gone for the season, Ngata gone, Lewis gone, Reed gone, SSS will be back soon but will injure himself again trying to get us out of the hole we are in. Really need to say this, Flacco is the most disrespected player on this entire team. You give the man all this money and then give him scarps and older vets and expect him to make champions out of them. Aiken is a decent player in a backup role but THERE IS A REASON HE WAS RELEASED FROM ALL THESE TEAMS BEFORE US!!!!!! He and Marlon both vanish over time in games if not from the start. Camp is injury prone, Waller hasnt has enough experience but I think would be a cheaper switch out for Marlon Brown after this season and at TE it seems Boyle is getting more looks and targets than Williams our higher round pick. Flacco has no weapons to throw to and even with a stout run game, your not fooling anyone with your game planning with the WR we have out there right now. We need to blow up the WR and CB corps next season, keep only Jimmy, Perrimen, Waller, Davis, Kyle, and then remove everyone else. Web is not worth his contract, neither is our starting FS at this point either(Totally down with moving Will Hill to FS and play the deep ball and just draft a new SS or play Terrence Brooks in that spot since he did play well when placed there before). Keep Jerigen as a long down player, and have Carl, Williams, and Guy be the starters going forward. When it comes to our LB core, we have really fallen off with now the loss of suggs and now doom. Next year should be made a huge focus to either replace or find the right players to eventually back them up while Zdaruis gets up to speed. Also need to see if Tail can stay on the field as well. If he can, maybe keep him in short yardage down and see if Allen may be able to take the extra reps.

Is the season over? Yes.

I hope the ravens realize this. This team needs its draft picks. Also, this team needs high draft position, not only for the 1st rd but for later rounds. The offensive skill positions, defensive backfield & OLB position need to be bolstered. It would be even better if the ravens could trade their high first rounder for a package but that probably won't happen unless we get the #1 pick (jared goff).

This upcoming draft will be the most important the ravens have partook in since 2008, no doubt. If the ravens blow this upcoming draft, we're screwed.

Is there a rule on this site that those on payroll can't knock the coaching staff? Not one person has had the gall to address Dean Pees' absolutely horrid job at making this team anything but a laughingstock... Like the Browns putting up OVER 500 yards on us

We Ravens fans have been spoiled for so long that we've just forgotten what it's like to be fans of a losing team. It certainly appears that we have to learn how to be that because that's what we are and that's what the Ravens have become.

Next man up is fine since it is a team game. However, next group of men up is a different story. Dallas hasn't won a game since it lost Romo and Bryant. There are finite impacts of injuries. Some positions like QB usually result in a significant problem. Otherwise as numbers pile up, they become additive. Without Dumervill as a pass rusher and three cornerbacks missing, it allows the opposing quarterback the time he needs to throw and the receivers the opportunity to get wide open.

This loss does not surprise me. We are going to get more losses than this. Whole secondary needs to be let go after the season except for Jimmy. Kendrick Lewis, Webb and Arrington are garbage. No pressure either. The writing has been on the wall for weeks. Should have lost at Pit also. FO better study every play and figure who we are moving forward with and who needs to go and never come back.

There it is again...what's with this recurring reference to Breshard Perriman being one of our "top two" receivers? HE HASN'T PLAYED A DOWN! To me he's last on the depth chart.

@ Bat- mite other teams do it. The Ravens can figure out a way to keep and pay good talents if they wanted to. Something like 43 out of the 53 players on the Bengals have been together since their rookie season. The Ravens philosophy is "right player right price". Sometimes, it is penny wise and pound foolish. It seems that Ozzie gets a kick out of not paying players a lot of money. Instead it appears that he would assemble cheap no name players and try to win with them. I remember when we let Cory Graham walk for less than $4M/yr, however by the end of that yr we had gone through many different horrible CBs that in the end it didn't really save any meaningful money.

Having players like Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Haloti, and Suggs allowed Ozzie to get away with that philosophy. Those incredible talents are gone. That philosophy has to change.

Also for a long time people wondered how valuable Flacco is to the organization. Well it's clear now that Flacco's value is limited in terms of wins/losses. As a position that is very difficult to replace, he is valuable. This team won with defense. Remember we won a Super Bowl with Dilfer too.

Are we switched role with the Browns now? Our defense are outright horrible when Ozzie has spent most of his high picks for defense. The problem behind it is Pees; don't say it is player's execution or at fault cuz coach is the one responsible to lead the players to success. Look at what Jim Harbaugh did to a losing team? I don't care how you break it down, but the truth is right coach will make the right plans and training to excel the players' strength. Pees need to go and John needs to get his head straight cuz his stubbornness will put the team in the big hole. We had enough experiences with Pees and we all see the results. Enough is enough!....

The Ego of the front office to honestly think this team could get away with throwing that WR cast behind Flacco and thinking it would work is just arrogance or plain stupidity.

The only good news this week for the Ravens and 49ers is one of them will get win #2 if not a tie breaker. We just have to hang in there till next year. Dead money plays a major role in whether teams gets above average players. Consider the top 8 teams with the highest amounts of dead money this year. Saints-$31,660,558 (1-4), Dolphins-$24,503,975 (1-3 Bye week 5), Bears-$23,494,322 (2-3), 49ers-$22,897,529 (1-4), Buccaneers-$22,283,311 (2-3), Ravens-$21,316,534 (1-4), Chiefs-$20,317,354 (1-4), Lions-$18,529,741 (0-5). The Bengals have the least amount of dead money at $1,432,294 and are 5-0 followed by Broncos-$2,884,840 (5-0). The more dead money there is, the less chances the teams can signed above average positional players to plug holes.

We just have to hang in there till next year. The Ravens have 2nd least amount of dead money for the 2016 season at only $168,693 so far (The Bengals has the least amount of dead money in 2016 at $90,946). $21 million is a lot of money that cannot be used (15% of salary cap), it is the main reason the Ravens cannot sign top tier positional players this year. The Ravens hands are tied this year but starting next year, they will have a lot more freedom to fill out the roster with top tier positional players. We just have to ride out the storm till the sun shines next year.

As crazy as it is for his detractors to call him a bust when he hasn't had the opportunity to take a single snap, it is crazy to pronounce him as a critical weapon for this team going forward.

I don't agree with those saying we should shut him down for the rest of the season, because it is a lost cause. We need to see what he has and get him reps with Flacco, so we don't roll into next season imagining what he might be able to do.

Lack of fire, injuries, and penalties have sunk our ship. Ravens nation we have literally been in every game we've played down to the wire. The talent is there and we do have a lot to build on but we need to get our best players on the field at the same time. Our depth is rather embarrassing. I almost think we're plagued to have at least 2-3 critical injuries every year. This team has been built for the trenches( to stop the run and get our run game going) but we can't get critical catches at the buzzer and our D cannot preserve a lead.

Wishlist: Get an aggressive knowledgable D coordinator.

Potentially sign a young pass rusher before Suggs turns 40.

Start drafting players who have a mean streak because they win games. Outside of SSS, Will Hill, and maybe Yanda. We don't have a lot of fire on this team--we're talented but no one is igniting the flame with sizzle gone.

Pees fired would be the best thing that could happen to the ravens, but then again Harbaugh

would hire a friend who isn't qualified.

Idk why the Ravens players are dropping like flies, could have something to do with the really long practices in the extreme heat that Harbaugh prides himself in? Not making assumptions but could that have taken an early toll on our players? JUst food for thought

It's one thing to have less talented players than other teams, and no leaders to boot. But, the fact that the Ravens are Consistently among the leaders in penalties is even more disturbing to me because that suggests the lack of discipline could very well mean that the coaching staff has lost the locker room and the respect of the players. Hope that's not the case, because that's Really not good or easy to overcome. It's obvious that Pees should be gone by now, but I hope the damage doesn't go deeper. Unfortunately, the offense has their share of penalties as well. Time will tell. I hope that Harbaugh can, at least, turn this aspect of our problems around. If I can remember correctly, Billick was fired because he lost the players.

Easy, Suggs and Perriman were playing and it wasn't just the front office who thought we had a good team. You have to remember MANY analyst had the Ravens winning the division and going deep into the playoffs.
