[News] Late For Work 10/12: Is Ravens' Season Over? What They're Saying

207 posts in this topic

Sadly, there isn't one thing in this article, said by any football pundit, that I could disagree with, and the one thing that did stand out to me is what Jason LaCanfora said; penaties are killing drives and games, and discipline is not being addressed....... Overall defense is sliding enough, but add the continuation of costly and un-necessary penalties, and we will not win another game this year in my opinion. If our offense, as decimated as it is, can still find a way to put up 24-30 or more pts a game, this is not on them, and we shouldn't have to put up astronomical #'s just to try to win a game.

It is possible they are unfortunately maybe due for a bad season.... But with this said, they are and always will be my team no matter what, and I will continue to stand with them through the good, and not so good times... :)

These Ravens are like the Raiders of the past. No discipline what so ever. Penalties both on offense and defense. STUPID penalties ! Injuries are part of the game and are of no excuse. The team is just not playing good football and one would have to look at the coaching staff. Pees I think has run his course and the Ravens new a young aggressive up and coming coach to take over and put the Ravens D back on the map. Watching this D and not being able to get off the field on 3rd down is pathetic to say the least. The real question is gonna be how Flacco and contract to worked out. He better realize that he's not Arron Rodgers or Tom Brady and take a deal the will allow the Ravens to get some talent on this team. Like most of us on this message board we had high hopes for this team and to watch the pathetic display is truly frustrating.

The season is very likely going to continue on as an unmitigated disaster. There are too many gaping holes to fill due to injuries and this team lacks desire and the will to win even without the injuries. But, there are still 11 games left in the regular season, so can we please refrain from talking about who the Ravens should be picking in the 2016 draft?

Two early season home losses to division rivals.

The defense let a ROOKIE torch them in Oakland.

They let ONE bengals receiver get 220 plus yards.

They let a Browns QB throw for almost 500 yards and blew another half time lead.

Honey, this aint Kansas no more

Them!! dogs! don't! hunt!!!!!!!

Im right with you bro. Im still crossing my fingers hoping when Ray's contract is up with ESPN he comes back to the Ravens by some miracle.

But I wouldn't blame Trestman. Our offense stepped up the past two games.

It is our defense that has become a TOTAL EMBARRASEMENT

We haven't been in the top half of the 1st round of the draft in quite some time. I don't think we get there this year either. I think we are a 7-9 team. Our defense will not win us any games, but our offense will, if we stick to running the football. Bottomline is we've got to keep the other team off the field. I know Forsett is injured. I'm hoping it's not a lingering injury.

Cap space issues due to factors like domestic violence and injuries cause a team to look like this. If the team were free to hire the players needed the play would be far different. Shame is its the luck of the draw for it to happen to this team, this season. Players that could benefit the team have been traded away to save money while players who no longer exist in the NFL are still counted against the salary cap. Players that are injured beyond ability to return remain on the roster. That makes this team a shell as stated above. Once cap space comes back it will be possible to rebuild this team. And none of this is about Flacco's salary at this point. That doesn't kick in till next year.

This is what happens when your draft picks for the last 4 years are a majority busts- Matt Elam, Arthur Brown, Cody, Kindle. Even our 1st & 2nd round picks this year haven't been able to contribute. Poke us with a fork because we are done for this year. All that remains to be seen is where we will pick for the 2016 draft.

I'm about as optimistic as it gets, usually, but after yesterday, I can't help but think maybe the rest of the season needs to be used to tinker with the staff and roster, to see if we can't get some better results.

Pees did a good job during the Super Bowl run, and even with getting a lot out of a banged-up unit last year, but ever since Ray Lewis retired, it's clear that this defense lacks a lot of its fire and edge. Suggs, when he's on the field, helps mitigate some of that, but we've lost that vocal leadership, and it shows on a defense that's not devoid of talent, but is playing soft.

I think the offense has a little bit of the blame for that, too. Kubiak managed an anomalous season, but the West Coast offense is inherently not a power scheme. The offense does not have to physically dominate the way it does in a power-run scheme. Kubiak managed to get that physical dominance out of the line and offense anyway, but Trestman clearly lacks that same skill and attitude, and when the coordinator does not have it, the scheme itself has to be the source of it. And that's not happening.

Can't win with 3rd and 4th string talent all over the field. Ravens keep letting "D" leaders walk out the door because RAVENS won't pay them! TOO CHEAP TO GET and KEEP REAL TALENT but they do not mind loosing games or top players. But we hire washed up QB's for backup. Lets try something different. We need REAL TALENT ON THE FIELD not prospects.

I'm about as negative a fan as they come. I was on the fire Cam tip about a season before it happened. But I don't know if Pees is really the problem. We have a lack of talent on the defense that I don't think anyone could really fix through scheme. Without Suggs and especially without Dumerville and especially at the end of games, our pass rush is non existent. Without any type of pass rush our average at best secondary can't cover anyone. Now sure, we should have adjusted somehow to account for Barnridge, but a new DC doesn't stop him from catching a desperation lob between his knees.

Bigger issue with me is the penalties, which lies squarely at Harbaugh's door. Every single game we have major boneheaded penalties. Roughing the passer wipes out an INT. Horrible hands to the face extends Browns drives in the redzone. Veterans line up in the neutral zone. By the way, for those last two, thanks Babin, in Ozzie we trust, right? It just seems like every drive you can count on us costing ourselves about 15 yards and a first down.

Regardless, the season is over, whether the site wants to admit it or not. We are too injured and are in too big a hole to dig ourselves out now. We BARELY beat the Steelers without Ben when they missed two easy field goals. Our 1-4 record isn't a fluke, it's exactly what this team is at this point. I'm a fan, so I hope they win every game the rest of the season, but we are looking at 6-10 to be realistic.

I missed the game (was out of the state). Did Chris Givens even play? Is he injured?

He ran a couple of go routes and had his guy beaten. Joe threw one but it was under thrown. The other one Joe never even made the read to see that he was open and beat his guy.

He played, I remember one attempt to him. He had his man beat deep and Flacco missed him. They played Jeremy Ross more. I'm guessing Ross being on the practice squad gave him the reps due to him knowing the offense more right now.

Receivers bcan't get open and D can't stop anyone. Trade for a REAL #1 receiver that can get open and a TOP pass rusher to replace Suggs NOW! We may not win another game without it.

I gave you a thumbs down because I'm betting you can't give us a salary cap breakdown that shows how the Ravens could have held on to some of the better defensive players.  It is very easy to say, "Pay this guy, pay that guy!"  But in reality, you have to show where the money comes from.

In a salary-capped league, you have to hire young, unproven players and hope they perform well.  Ozzie has a pretty good record of doing that, but he isn't omniscient.  Some of our young talent hasn't worked out, and no one could have predicted that most of our seasoned players would end up injured.

And it's not like you can simply fire guys and hire more guys.  There's dead cap money associated with trading and/or firing players.  And then you still can't pay for better guys.

We are suffering from having an injury-decimated group of veteran starters, and their replacements aren't too far past college level.  And maybe never will be.  But the bottom line is:  in a salary-capped league, you have to let people go when they get too expensive.

what i found very concerning was when Flacco was asked about our failed 2 point conversion, was if anyone other than Justin was a option, and he answered "NO" how can you not have more than 1 option on any pass play???

No more "Next game..." now it is "Next year..." The Orioles didn't allow the Ravens to play a home game after the Super Bowl win; the Ravens have not been the same since. The new defensive coordinator will insist on DBs that can attack the ball and tackle. The loss at home on a beautiful day was symbolic of poor management. If no change in management, expect more of the same failing results. Ticket holders are embarrassed by their hard earned money going down the drain into the Harbor.

Well, 4 losses doe snot equal a lost season. 1 win does not guarantee a playoff season. As a devoted fan who drove in a storm to watch my team play, I will stick to my team until the superbowl game clock hits 000. This season is ugly so far, but, I expect us to finish with dignity.

Go Ravens!!
