I AM LEGEND

Eh, IDK. I'd like a Vincent Jackson. Sure he's a bit older but he has like 3-5 years of good ball left.

I actually think we go get someone along the lines of a Rueban Randle. He's a solid player. Makes good catches and runs good routes. Young, would mesh with Flacco. It makes sense

I like the Vjax name being thrown out there. Good possession receiver, but also a decent deep threat just because he's big and physical. Problem is those big bodies get worn down and injury prone later in their careers.

Another good candidate if he's cut is Garcon. He is probably the #1 possible cap casualty on my list. He reminds me of Boldin, makes some really tough catches and takes some hard hits.

The problem with FA speculation is you pretty much have to consider only cut/released players and exclude UFA's and RFA's, since Ozzie believes in comp. picks to a fault.

Except for the point that it's not. Not really as big as everyone sees. WR has been a need every year since Boldin went away. It really was not a need before then until we truly needed speed and went to go get Torrey. I'll admit that it's frustrating sure, but we've lived. Even this year WR isn't a super prevelent issue. We're still putting up points.

Every team is going to have a weakness, no such thing as a perfect time. WR is ours. Ozzie is not very good at drafting them. And even then we have come so close even without these WRs. And lost all (except Evans. I am giving you him) as a team. You cannot put sole blame or the majority of the blame on the WRs for all except the Lee Evans one. We honestly did not deserve to win those games because, well the better team won those. And it was not because of the WR corps.

And btw. If you're saying that this year WR is a MAJOR need. You're wrong. It was only a major need the years Boldin and Torrey went away. We're going to give Perriman a chance and we appear to have a viable #3 in Aiken. We will probably go get a Randle, which is fine, and rely on the TE more(which btw... If you have a stable TE core and only average WRs.. which for most of Flacco's career except for 2013 has been true. You're fine... You're offense will be fine. You need a number one OPTION. Not a number one WR. Hell, the number one option the year we won the SB wasn't Boldin, it was Rice) and the offense will have success. Especially if you have a run game.

Sure, post SB you could make the argument Ozzie neglected Flacco but he rebuilt the team from the middle out. Focusing on the oline and dline(Which are FAR more important than the WR position)first. Because you're truly neglecting your QB if you give him no run game or time.

WR has been more of an inconvience rather than a dagger like you're implying. Other than Evans I cannot think of there being another time where the sole reason for our season ending prematurely was because of a WR.

And yes. the method works. We've had success with it. Ozzie will continue to do it. Because it does work more times than not. It'll be our weakness, but honestly. If your weakness is WR and you have a good oline, running game, and TE corps(which btw. We have those). Genrally the offense will be fine(Which it has been).

So I'm not upset at all about WR. Is it a need? Yeah. SSR retiring creates a problem but not one that'll kill us. Is it catastrophic. No. Hell no. OLB, CB, FS. OG to replace KO if we don't resign him), and yes. RB. Forsett is not the answer and Allen is honestly more of a compliment. If we fill in 3 of those(my guess is we fill in CB, OG, OLB and RB via the draft and possibly get a WR via FA), we'll be fine..

But that WR is more than likely than not to be near 30, and have a few good years left in him. Which is fine. You cannot win a SB without your veterans.[players

lol What makes you think the ravens will find an impact corner, olb,WR,fs,rb and og of championsship caliber?? That is quite a laundry list of needs for the ravens. The ravens are almost near rebuild mode. Ozzie is giving contracts to eratic players like there is no salary cap and money grows on trees. jimmy played well in a very small sample. Ozzie hasn't been drafting bpa. He has been trying to replace perennial pro bowlers after they retire. Like Elam and Brown. Perriman was a need and colossal reach. When the ravens need a player it does not increase a draft picks success. When the ravens draft a player does he instantly move up 100 spots on your board of BPA's?? You do not think SS retiring makes WR a huge need?? Now they need 3 WRs. Perriman is not round1 caliber just because he was drafted there. Where would the WRs sit without SS?? He is the only NFL caliber WR on the roster. The ravens should have drafted 3 WRs not including Waller. Lockett and Diggs would be looking nice!! And oz should have drafted bpa at perriman spot. As for free agency Bruce Irvin and Brian Quick would look good in purple. Both players best production is yet to come. Quick was coming on before his injury and that was with terrible QB!! The dude works very hard on his route tree!! Irvin's best position is 3-4 edge rush olb. He is explosive and has been coached up in technique and ready to claim his position as an elite edge rusher. He is as explosive as anybody!! He will be a complete rush olb because he could cover when needed. He will be Boulware 2.0!! He should be #1 offseason priority!! He is very much the player Kalil Mack is.

omg. seriously. Please. That doesn't even make sense. SSS is leaving. Aiken is no #3. What you'd have is an unproven and untested rookie, a UDFA, a #3 journeyman in Aiken. You've got to be kidding me if you think that is anywhere near NFL caliber. That is a recipe for disaster beyond this season. There isn't a WR on the roster after SSS who can take over a #2 spot let alone a #1 spot. Aging FAs are not #1 WRs.

i agree with this to an extent.  Aiken i think is a low end 3, at best.  Some people are very high on him.  Maybe with an increased role this year, he would be much better next year, can only hope.

Bad contracts but we really lucked out. If Webb never had that torn ACL we wouldn't even be bringing up his contract, same with Pitta.

When it comes to drafting when was the last time we picked as high the top 10? Long ago. I think with a top ten pick Oz will be putting in some serious work.

Oh and Joe Flacco is 29 mil against the cap next season. LOL... lets pray for a restructure, I think Joe Flacco is worth 8.5 mil per year.

Good thing your perceived value of QBs is way, way, way, way, way off.

Somebody mentioned that Mosley has coverage issues, funny because it wasn't that big of an issue last year as a Rookie. No pass rush

I keep referring to the Ravens as a Frankenstein. I felt the same to a lesser extant last year but this year it is painful.

Here is my observation regarding Ozzie: Without a ton of time to research and going off the top I would say I am bothered by how free agent/trade dependent we have become. Our starting center, running back, left tackle and our best WR were acquisitions from without.

One could say the same about the predecessor at most of those positions, our safeties and on and on.

Now, in comparing with the steelers/bengals roster you will notice(pretty sure)that their entire Oline consists of players they drafted and developed. The Browns are a little closer to us though not as dependent and this is a dreadful notion.

The steelers and bengals RB,WR,OLINE,TIGHT END, as far as I can recall are draft picks.

We gave up two picks for our left tackle. A pick for our center...you get the point. Perhaps in looking around the league you will see that those franchises are the exception. If that is the case,it doesn't change my opinion that we have fallen behind and that Ozzie has resorted to trading picks to fill holes because draft picks, high ones at that have not panned out.

Saw this last night with the Giants too. No pass rush will allow your secondary and LBs to get hammered in coverage.

You guys talking down on Maxx do realize him and Boyle are the top rated rookie TEs by PFF, right?

http://imgur.com/mZDKrHa

That was before last week....

I'm excited to watch these 2 develop. Especially Maxx who seems to catch everything going his way. I haven't really seen any deep balls his way though

Right there with ya. Considering how poorly rookie TEs typically play, they are both well on their way. Maxx just needs to bulk up and he could be a Heap-style player.

I was thinking more like slim-down lol. He seems to be pretty athletic at his current size and maybe shedding some weight will help him get faster....like....Gronk.................GRONK 2.0? I DON'T KNOW BUT A LITTLE BOY CAN DREAM RIGHT? RIGHT?

1-5.....sorry lol

And Pitta has been working with them to help them out too.  That is pretty cool too. I love these two guys.  I loved Pitta when he came out too.  Good solid TE's are always good for your team.  For as bad as our offense has looked at times, these guys are a bright spot

I feel you Lost but there were some blatant misses that for some reason or not Ozzie didn't pick up.I can still remember in 2013 screaming at the tv for him to pick up keenan allen in the 3rd round(Rookie of the year or a Jordan Matthews in 2014 in the 2nd(even if we had to do a trade).Alshon Jeffery in 2012 instead of trading back to get courtney upshaw.I understand that you can't predict how these guys skills will translate to the league but that never stopped him on defense.Kindle,Cody,Elam,Brown,Upshaw could all be used as examples of busts but we still pump out picks on the defense we understand that drafting isn't a science. Also I think alot of our picks hit because we had a framework core of Lewis,Reed,Ngata and Suggs and many guys would look good next to them(which would explain why most defenders that leave Baltimore in FA really dont do anything expectations wise).Im sure if we had a definite 1 and 2 combo, we could add average wrs and they could work. On last example is how with a talented class of receivers in 2014 ozzie managed to only come away with Camp in the 7th round. We never really got a good gauge of Ozzies receiver drafting skill in the Flacco era because he literally uses the last picks to pick them up,which lets be honest, those guys are most likely going to the practice squad.

You are exactly on point. You both have keen observations of the Ozzie era. I hope the Owner mandates at least a high draft pick  in the first round to solidify the receiving corp. Perriman may be effective but they have missed so many times that they need to bolster the team. The scouting department needs a overhaul and/or the rating system utilized needs reform.

Except for the fact that Aiken is a number 3. He's more reliable as a WR than Jacoby was tbh. He may have made the big play but he wasn't as reliable as you remember. I never said the FA is a number one. He's a #2. You're missing my point. We have two potential number one OPTIONS in the form of a TE. Maxx has yet to contribute on that level as he is a rookie. But honestly, looking at it, we could be in a worse situation. And by the end of the season Perriman will have playing time and will probably know what improvements we need to make. And he's probably going to be a #2 at worst based off of what I scouted.

So no. Not as bad off as you think.

I can see why people are upset with the WR thing. But the veteran thing works. If you can get a few good seasons out of them on the cheap where they are reliable, then it was a success.

SSR is going to be gone. If you convince him to play one more year then the WR problem potentially solves itself for now.

My point is we have more prevolant issues at hand. Issues that are holding us back because we cannot cover them. You can cover a WR corps issue.

You cannot cover up lack of a pass rush. Or bad(granted, they're hurt again, so take that as you will. Whether you want to admit it or not, it is a big contributing factor to why we've been loising games) CB play. Or bad safety play. Or lack of a running game.

If you have a good running game(which we don't. We lack the RB to have that), and you have a good TE corps(which it looks like we do). You can honestly stick in a WR#2 there and have a succesful offense. That guy for all we know could be Perriman.

We need

OLB

OG

FS

CB

RB

Before we need a WR.

i think people dont know how the cap works.

if they did they knew getting a #1 WR aint happening unless we draft 1.

also i agree that our #1 need is a pass rusher.

we need that badly.

if you can generate pressure with 4 guys you will not have to leave defenders on an island and have less risk of giving up the big play.

Maxx Williams sucks eggs.

I'm not writing him off because he's young and doesn't have a man's body yet but you'd think you would have seen a bit more from him so far. Decent blocker though.

He is a good blocking TE. Not writing him off but I also don't see where everyone is so omg over him right now. He has flashed potential but that is all.

lmbo Oh my bad. We're adding 2 unproven TEs into the mix. Sorry but I can't take anything you claim seriously if you truly believe that is a sufficient receiving corps.

No people miss te point that you are not going to be anywhere near competititive with a #4 journeyman in Aiken (low end #3 tops), a UDFA who is MIA this season, and an unproven rookie as your WR corps. We're not getting a Julio, and no one expects that either. But please, stop acting like this is a recipe for success.0

the players we get from FA are the players we can afford.

so far its been a successful recipe.

6 playoff appearances in 7 seasons.

2 afc championship appearances.

2 division titles

1 SB.

seems pretty successful to me.

i have already seen how your recipes for succes have worked so far and i aint impressed so im sticking with what Ozzie decides to do.

Before last year, the Steelers hadn't made the post season since 11. The abengals for years had top picks due to a dry spell. The Browns... well, they're the Browns.

Off topic, this looks like a team with no leaders. Coaching or player wise.

meh 1 of them we won the SB so i dont count it but you are right lol.

in 7 seasons we where 3 times a game away from the SB and made it 1 time and won the SB.

pretty darn good.

nope seems like that.

steve smith is that last guy left with the burning fire to give everything for a win.

suggs was that guy on defense.

they said after ray and ed left its now a certains guys team.

interesting those people stopped saying it since everyone seems to be like a reflection of that guy lol

Once again i feel you lost, but i think wr needs to be in there along with with fs and cb before olb or rb.In this age of the nfl(not saying we need to go all offense),with Joe as our guy were building around and the money we're investing,we need an 1 and 2 and possibly 3 recievers that strike fear in any opponent we play.Especially with the defenses in the north. The we put rb and olb before wr every time is why we always have it as a need.Just saying.

Since the complete roster turnover post 2012 season. We have a less than .500 record including this 1-5 start. from the 6 straight playoff years and superbowl we have 4-5 players from that team, one of them on IR now. we have not been replacing what we have lost over the last 4 years and we have not drafted well enough to replace the losses it is as simple as that. The ray rice situation has drastically affected this team both in plays missing on the field to the Dead money that could have kept Ngata or even Torrey in town. Ozzie has a chance to draft in the top 20 again the way its going maybe top 10 and he is always hitting on those players. This can be a down year where we build to hit our stride again i've been very critical of this teams drafting lately we haven't been able to get a RB in the middle rounds like other teams seem to do. Pierce, Talifero. CB has been a wiff outside Smith for a few years also. Lets hope Perriman can heal and actual contribute next year like the team counted on him doing this year.

It's not sufficient yet. We're in the process of of building one. And you're honestly not giving Aiken enough credit. He's not amainzg but he's filled in well.
