[News] Defense Shoulders Loss After Another Late Collapse

71 posts in this topic

I think you need to look at the box score to get a feel for who is really to blame...

Offense failed to put any points up in the entire 2nd quarter while the Defense held the Browns to 2 Field goals!!

Then they failed to maintain possession late in the game and let the Browns back on the field. The the defense failed to stop.

This is a total team loss; offensively and defensively inept football, from the coaches to the players and I'm pretty sure the dang water boy screwed up yesterday!

Yeah early in the second quarter after Forsette's first down run on a drive the offense shut it down. Flacco had his hands on his hips and was looking at that deadbeat Trestman for a play...no urgency no life no energy. Game over season over.

You can have the best defensive players in the world on your team, but if they aren't put in a position to be effective it doesn't matter how good they are. You must look at the source of the ineffective plays called. And that's usually the problem.

Pees is screwing us over. We need to fire him in order to have the possibility of making the playoffs. We fired Cam Cameron in 2012 and won the Superbowl...Just sayin...

The only way we can win at this point is if our offense scores the final TD with less than 10 seconds in the game. no playing for a tie or any of that crap. Otherwise, our defense will give it right back. Anything more than 10 seconds for the opponent is too much time to score on us. That's the reality until we make some moves in the offseason.

In some ways, you sort of have to. I'd agree with your assessment IF the blitz was actually working, but about half the time it didn't. The Browns did a great job of picking it up.

So if we're sending six or seven guys, and leaving our corners in man coverage with little or no backside help, and they're playing tight man to man, that's a recipe for 40 yard completions consistently.

The reality is that, with the current guys we have out there (especially considering Dumervil was hurt), we can't afford to blitz and not get there, or at least not make a throw unbelievably uncomfortable. When that doesn't happen, every NFL QB in this league will complete first downs.

I agree to some degree. However, you take risks with blitzing. The point is to get home quickly and force the qb to throw hot if you don't. If the blitz doesn't get there, then there is that chance of a large completion, but if you blitz and leave the qb with easy hot reads then the blitz will never get home. Zone blitzing is a thing too. Blitz out of a cover 2, 6 or 3 with one or more cbs in the flat for the hot and the safety rolling over the top. It just SEEMS like we're blitzing out of a cover 4 every time with two deep safeties and the cbs playing soft and that left us exposed imo. Basicly we look like we run a basic defense. I think pees lacks confidence in the secondary which causes him to play soft. The irony is that the soft play calling is killing us. Edited by Purple&Black

isn't that the truth. It's sad that years ago I actually felt comfortable when the Ravens were up by 7 and fully trusted the defense to not give it away. Shoot I was even confident when we were up by 3. Now if we're not up by at least 15 with less than 2 minutes remaining ( which hasn't happened once this year) it's an extremely uneasy feeling.
