2016 free agency

I like the Hali idea. Hopefully someone similar to sheard becomes available. That would have been the ideal signing. A WR like Rube would make some sense. There's 100% chance we add a vet there. A first round pass rusher is what I would like. Man Preston smith would look really good right now. Actually I woukd like to see multiple rushers drafted. It would make a huge difference to the secondary. I also would not count out Suggs.

Good pass rush can mask a bad secondary. Boooooosa.

Overrated IMO, just haven't seen the "game changer" player.

We have none on the defense at this moment.

As far as additions go, we need a FS very badly. Kendrick Lewis has been bad in coverage and average as a run stopper, he's even looked bad at times in that department too. I don't know what you can do as a safety if you can't cover or defend the run.

At the top of my wish list and my most priced Free Agent is Eric Weddle. Goodness I want him here so badly, he would solve so many of our problems its not even funny. He would be the perfect medication to our illness of big plays. I want him in Baltimore really badly. Sadly, there is a such thing as cap space. I know Ngata and Rice come off the books, but Flaccos cap will spike, I know we'll get a deal done but I don't think we'll have much to work with. Getting Weddle here will allow us to draft a pass rusher very highly and focus on this WR core. Mike Tomlin is a big fan of him, so steeling(Pun intended) him from Pittsburgh, would make it that much more awesome. Him and Will Hill would just be unfair. I don't know if we have the cap space, but man I want him here.

Another guy at the near top of my wish list is Vincent Jackson from Tampa. I've been vocal about this, I don't think he'll return to Tampa. I think this is his last season there. Tampa Bay has been really adamant in releasing players who don't play up to their contracts. They did it with Darelle Revis after one season, and they also did it to Michael Johnson as well. They even tried to trade him last season and found no one. He would be a great #1 or #2, depending on Perriman. Another guy I like is Marvin Jones, he would be a great #2 here. VJax, Perriman, Campanaro and Aiken would be a pretty nice group of guys. I'd still like to see us draft a WR early even with that group.

I also like Marvin Jones from Cincy, but It depends on the market for that one. Someone could value him a little too much quiet honestly.

We need a Pass rush awfully bad, the guys we have just won't get it done. With Doom and Sizzle we should have a nice duo, but we still would need a backup plan. Biscotti was right when he voiced concerns for a pass rusher. I love Mike Neal from Green Bay. He can rush the passer. He can rush from the interior or from the outside. I like him alot for this team. He would be a true replacement for McPhee.

I think youre talking eric weddle up a little much. hes not THAT good. and v jax would be a decent pickup but hes old. we need some young guys on the receiver squad that are actually good and can run routes.

You stole my thread bro, ha.

But here are the FAs in 2016:

Marshal Yanda

Justin Tucker

Matt Schaub

Courtney Upshaw

Albert McClellan

Jason Babin

Kelechi Osemele

Morgan Cox

Jeremy Ross

Allen Reisner

Chris Givens

***Rashaan Melvin

*Brynden Trawick

*Kamar Aiken

*Ryan Jensen

*Marlon Brown

***Zach Thompson

The only must keeps here are Yanda and Tucker. At this point I'd like to keep Aiken as well. The rest can go.

Bold + *** = ERFA

Bold + * = RFA

Only ones I see as must keep of our Unrestricted Free Agents, Yanda, Tucker, Ross and Givens.

Nah, I think Weddle is that good. He hasn't allowed a TD in his vicinity since 2012, the longest active streak in the NFL. The man can cover. Add that to the fact he can stop the run and you got a complete player. He can also play some nice coverage. I love his game.

Weddle in his prime sure, but now, nah not so much. If we are looking at a safety to replace Kendrick Lewis then if we end up close to the top 10, then going with Jalen Ramsey to plug in at FS and continue adding young play makers to this defense would be best.

Will Ramsey be there by our pick? You can't rely on one guy being there in the draft. If we wait for Ramsey and he doesn't make it to our pick, then we'll lose out on addressing a position of severe need. I don't like the idea of that, not to mention there are other ways to go with our first, preferably at WR or Pass Rusher.

What do you mean when you say Weddle is in his prime but not anymore? I still think he's a beast and would be a great fit here.

Another possible name to throw out there is Olivier Vernon from the Dolphins, if he becomes a free agent. He could be a nice get for the team.

That is an Ozzie move

It seems that the streak ended this season, but he's still a top tier safety in my eyes, even with the supporting cast around him underwhelming. Was easily one of the very best the year before. Though I do believe the fact that he wasn't paid as one of the best in San Diego could entice him to seek a salary that makes him among the highest paid at his position.

I wouldn't mind Aldon Smith signing with us. I know he might get suspended some time soon, but I know hes a free agent next year. We really have to attack the defense in the draft and free agency. Literally any Qb can light this defense up. I see this being a 2 year rebuilding plan because we don't have anyone to replace SSS as well.  This upcoming draft is gonna be extremely crucial for the future of this organization. I now consider players like Arthur Brown and Courtney Upshaw busts they were 1st and 2nd round draft picks. Matt Elam up until this point in his career is a bust another 1st round draft pick. Those high draft picks have hurt the development of this defense.

I believe he is UFA next year.

He is, but what I mean is his availability depends on whether the Dolphins let him go or re-sign him to an extension.

We don't need superstars, just no more trash heap signings. Forget the stupid comp picks that we'll use to select the next Tandon Doss.

Right on the head. We can't use comp picks in need while taking BPA next draft. We don't have that luxury right now. The way our season is going, we will draft in the top 8. Been a looooooong time since Oz drafted so high. Having high picks in each round will bring back the luster to our dull team.

We also need to hold Pees accountable for his inability to influence the defense. His time has come and gone. If Harbs can't let him go, it's Ozzies responsibility to locate a strong DC and get him in here.

Ah, ok. They have spent quite a bit this off season but who knows. Perhaps they'd want to keep him to give the best shot to the new DC, whoever that might become.

Is it worth considering trading anyone that we don't expect to be here next year?

Most seem to agree that Yanda and Tucker will be the 2 that we prioritise to resign

What could we realistically get for Osemele? Would anyone give a 3rd? A 4th maybe?

Can't imagine we could get more than a 7th for Upshaw for a potential 11 game rental , but surely there would be a market for KO? Possible negative i suppose could be that having KO as an alternative gives us some leverage with the Yanda negotiations

Not sure of any other vets we would consider putting on the block?

It's looking like next years draft will be huge for this franchise, and we could have our highest picks for years, any extra picks to get more young talent would be helpful

That's not Ozzie's responsibility... at all.

100% John's call. If you have to overrule the HC on a standard coaching assistant decision, its probably time for the DC, HC, and GM to all leave, because you've hit near the bottom as an organization.

And before we go down this path from the fans who think it actually happened, no, neither Ozzie nor Steve fired Cam Cameron, and there's still no evidence that they were even involved until AFTER Harbs made the decision.

I know Harbaugh fired Cam. The problem is, he wastes seasons on these guys sometimes. Cam overstayed his welcome, now Pees needs to go. He has been the constant in these abysmal defenses. Doesn't take a statistician to notice the trend in porous performance metrics.
