sad thing about upshaw is..he isn't even that great of an edge setter..

he's good...

Jarrett Johnson was a great edge setter

upshaw is the worst pass rusher in the NFL playing OLB.

his real value? 5th round

I'm baffled by fans that really believe a team enters the drafts looking for mediocre players. Did not they trade down?? So whose fault is it their first pick was #35?? And do you want a list of impact players drafted after that?? And did not they say " we feel we got the best edge RUSHER in the drsft??1 impact players for 2 mediocre players?? that can be pulled off practice squads. Edge setters can be found in mid rounds. If that is seriously how Ozzie thinks these days.... Hang on for the ride!! Strap in it is gonna get bumpy!!

Basically, yes. The middle and late rounds of drafts are annually filled with mediocre players... that's in most cases why they are being drafted there. If they were stud players, they'd likely go higher.

Ozzie chose to trade down because he didn't want to spend a first round pick on somebody that wasn't worth it. What's the point of doing that? Now you're paying a guy first round money that you didn't even want...

Something that i said before back in the day when we had Rice and Pierce: Id love to see forset in the slot and allen in the backfield, i think that could cause some big problems for some defense. I was a huge advocate for this a couple years ago and havent seen anyone else mention it.

I wouldn't be opposed to that, especially now. It's bad when you feel better about your 5'7 running back lining up in the slot than your wide outs.

I know the Ravens still have him listed on their official roster on IR, but wasn't Micajah Reynolds released with an injury settlement?  Was that ever officially put through the NFL transaction wire?

http://www.baltimorebeatdown.com/2015/9/5/9266573/nfl-cuts-dt-micajah-reynolds-is-being-released-with-an-injury

He's still listed by the NFLPA and I never saw an official release on the NFL's daily transaction reports, so either they changed their minds, couldn't reach a settlement or Zrebiec was just speculating.

If they couldn't reach an agreement on a settlement, he can always be released later if he can pass a physical, which the team can ask him to do at any time.

No, we took him knowing he didn't have all the tools to be an All-Pro OLB. We took him thinking he had the tools to be a quality edge setting linebacker, which is largely what he's done.

And generally speaking, I'd agree, we don't typically always take second round players and think they are going to be dominant forces in the league. In many cases, they become quality players who fill a quality role for us.

This.  They took Upshaw, not to be a "Suggs"-type OLB, but to be a "Jarret Johnson"-type OLB.

I do think they felt that Upshaw would develop into more of a pass rusher than he has, but he wasn't ever expected to be a 10+ sack kind of guy.  He was - like JJ - expected to be an edge setting, run stopping OLB, who could also contribute some to the pass rush.

More curiosity than anything. Doubt he lasts through minicamps if he is even still on the roster. They did give his jersey number to Bilukidi when he was still here though, which led me to believe he was gone.

I'm in agreement here. I understand the point about drafting Upshaw to be an edge-setter, but I assume the FO was planning on acquiring a competent pass rusher, or at least not an outright liability. I personally thought the tape said otherwise. The truth is that Upshaw has been arguably one of the worst pass rushing LBs in the league and that's what stings about drafting a player that high.

Yeah agreed, finding an edge setting OLB is not that hard to find if you are fine with them not having much/any pass rush.

If Trestman Stays we have a good chance of getting Alshon Jeffery... we need to Replace Steve Smith next year

Why is this the case?

If the Bears want to keep Jeffery, they will. This also ignores the fact that we are incredibly unlikely to be shopping in the Jeffery price range.

Isn't it also possible that Jeffery would NOT want to play for Trestman again? Why does everyone assume that is the case?

Not really, the bears could easily franchise him.

Wasn't the same thing said about Brandon Marshall?

Why would he leave? He's treated well there, he puts up great numbers, and the team will pay him.

I have no idea why people think he's going to leave.

Because we can dream. Are you happy with our current WR group?

Not really that bad playing for Jay Cutler apparently, as you'll see from Jeffery's stats.

They probably won't pay Forte, so that probably won't be a problem. If they do, they can afford both easily.

No, but that doesn't mean I think trading for Odell Beckham is an option either.

I try to be realistic when I set my expectations.

Well IF he makes it to free agency, I would at least like to see the Ravens try and land him. We need more playmakers on offense and Alshon would be a very good place start. I don't want to spend our first on another WR in the draft, but we really need to find some way to inject some young and fast talent for Flacco. I wonder if the Bears are dumb enough to trade him for something other than a first?

Will most likely be significantly out of our price range.

No thank you. Too injury prone. We don't need another perriman.

If we aren't going to bring in injury prone players, then there will be nobody left for us to bring in.

Its the NFL. Everybody gets hurt eventually, and typically multiple times. "Injury prone" is just a subjective label that doesn't really mean anything.

To that I reply; Percy Harvin, Derrick Rose, sometimes Manny M, Monroe, Webb.

I see this being a pretty active Free Agency compared to the last few seasons.

I agree, but I think we will still focus on players who will be cut.  I don't see us going after many UFA's.  Id like to add someone like Vjax or Garcon if cut then add a cornerback like Keenan Lewis or Brandon Carr if cut.

OK, and?

Would you likely to provide the lengthy list of outstanding players who have missed multiple games on multiple occasions?

By the "injury prone" logic, Aaron Rodgers is injury prone.

Ray Lewis... injury prone.

Ed Reed... injury prone.

Gigantic fallacy.

I don't see us going after many UFAs either, salary cap space takes into account. I feel like we're going to sign a couple of starting caliber plays on defense, that's where most of the work will be done IMO.
