I'm sure it's been discussed, but would Pagano consider coming back as DC if he's fired by Colts midseason? I believe I saw he would not be interested in anything other than HC position.

Pees wasn't the problem last night.

I would agree. I think the Cardinals just made plays on offense. The defense played a hell of a game. We had a ton of pressure. We didn't really blow any coverages. Palmer was dropping dimes all night, and there's not a lot you can do about that. He was hot. I don't know how the pressure didn't get to him. He was just in the zone.

Part of it was the OL holding. It happened a lot on Massie the RT but it went uncalled. Then again, I also recall a few plays where Veldheer literally held Dumervil like a fly by its wings. It was funny.

Here's where we stand on defensive rankings through 7 weeks of football:

POINTS PER GAME: 26th (26.9)
YARDS PER GAME: 25th (385.4)
YARDS PER RUSH ATTEMPT: 9th (3.9)
RUSHING YARDS PER GAME: 10th (102.4)
PASSING YARDS PER GAME: 28th (283.0)
QB RATING: 29th (104.1)
THIRD DOWN %: 32nd (47.1%)
DRIVES AGAINST - SCORING %: 29th (44.0%)
DRIVES AGAINST - TAKEAWAY %: 31st (4.8%)
DRIVES AGAINST - SCORING/TAKEAWAY RATIO: 32nd (9.2 : 1)

Last night, we allowed the following (and where that would rank in the NFL if it was our season average)

POINTS: 26 (23rd)
YARDS: 414 (32nd)
YARDS PER RUSH ATTEMPT: 5.4 (32nd)
RUSHING YARDS: 150 (31st)
PASSING YARDS: 275 (26th)
QB RATING: 122.1 (32nd)
THIRD DOWN %: 41.7% (25th)
DRIVES AGAINST - SCORING %: 45.5% (5 out of 11 scoring drives) (32nd)
DRIVES AGAINST - TAKEAWAY %: 0% (0 takeaways) (32nd)
DRIVES AGAINST - SCORING/TAKEAWAY RATIO: 5 : 0 (5 scoring drives, 0 takeaways) (32nd)

I'm not seeing a single number from this game that is reflective of a good defensive performance.  Almost every category is near the bottom, or the absolutely bottom, of the league if it were how we performed every single game.  This performance is only slightly better than our season averages in a couple of categories, and worse in a lot of them.

i was wondering the same but apparently he said something along the lines of not being interested in coaching anymore after the colts if someone can verify that...

i know this sounds like a pipe dream or something, but considering his interest in coaching combined with the......"subpar" play of our secondary, i wonder what the odds would be of bringing mr. reed back to town, maybe as a defensive intern or something like that.

Pees wasn't the problem last night.

Pees is sure not helping.

Something is going on, outside of SSS it seems from Jimmy on down has went backwards big time. This will be just like the Cam thing, it just keeps going and going until finally someone pulls the trigger. Maybe it's just one of those thing's, then again maybe our coaches have lost this team. The season is done fire Pees and let another finish the season while looking for the "RIGHT" person to bring back Ravens D. We seem to no longer instill fear into teams playing us, where is the Mentality of organized chaos and bruising hitting and gang tackles..

Remember what happened the last time a coordinator was fired during the season? I wonder if Harbaugh remembers.

It`s way to late for that now.

The only break I will give to the defense is after Ross fumbled the punt in which that put our defense in a terrible spot after just getting off the field.  It didn't help with PI penalties on Webb (questionable at best) and Trawick (just ran into the wideout before the ball was there).  Other than that it was not a good defensive performance and a lot of the same bad trends from the first 6 games carried over.  The Cardinals are a really good offensive team with a lot of weapons, but on several plays (CJ's touchdown run) our defense was just plain pathetic.

The offense did not do its part in this game, but by no means did our defense do a great job either.

Yeah man, I don't think they played well either. Its just that we've been used to them playing so bad so I could understand why we're okay with how they played yesterday.

Lmao. Honestly, the performance wasn't special but they were put in bad spots against one of the top offenses.

The stats don't show the whole story imo last night. How long was CJs run that shouldn't have counted? That's 3 points, the fumble by Ross shouldn't have been, that was 7 points.

We got constant pressure, had despised blitzes by Mosley and smith.

The only time I got really annoyed Was the last drive. 2nd and 19 and the corners played 15 yards deep, mlb played deep and they completed a pass for 13 underneath with YAC and got 3rd and 3 and converted that to extend their drive. Likely cost us 30 odd seconds for our game tying drive attempt.

Thought that was playing scared.

First of all, thanks for providing the stats. Second, it's stats like these is why I envy the defenses of the Cardinals (boy do they got speed), Jets, Broncos (they're just too damn good), and Panthers.

It's funny to me that on a day where the defense did their job, everyone seems kinda quiet... had the defense played like the offense did, well... we know how the boards would be.

The defense was average at best, receivers were running open all game and the run game was gashing the defense.

Bring in Jim Schwartz, even with the feud he had with Jim Harbaugh, he is a good D coordinator.

That I can agree with to some degree.

LOL

Don't get me wrong, not blaming the defense for that loss. Just was responding that we're all like "the defense didn't do badly" but when you break it down, they kind of did lol So pointing out that we're so used to them being horrific, that terrible is a step up.

Didn't take it that was. Actually thought what you said was funny.

Truth is, I wanted to post the performance wasn't special, but didnt want to give the Pees haters any ammo. It honestly was an average performance, if you ask me, but even those have been rare. This team for years seems to struggle with both sides playing in sync.

Dear jebus how much are you going to harp on this? Plenty of people have said and continue to say the Offense screwed up as well. The only thing that people are pointing out, and rightfully so, is that between the two the offense has done more to help us win than the defense over the course of the season. But in this specific game, yeah, both sucked.

guess its their fault ross fumbled and the refs did not blow the whistle on the huge run by CJ that ended in 3 points

And I still think Pees needs to go. His defenses never live up to their potential and that 4th quarter stat since he's been here, he owns and it is a big problem.

But, IF he is still here next year, then he needs out of that booth. There is no longer an Ed Reed or Ray Lewis to coach these guys up down there. Shoot, not even an Austin anymore. He needs to be down there and coaching these young guys when things go badly. Pointing out where they can improve right after they mess up.

Plus we need to add weapons on the offensive side. Pees brand of defense is only truly successful with a potent offense.

Now let's say if Pees gets fired at the end of the season. If the Bills continue their losing ways and their defense continues to struggle, do they fire Rex? If so, would he come here knowing that the Bills HC job is his last as a HC? According to SI, he has reportedly lost the team already after their loss to the Jags.

Thoughts?

Going to harp as damn long as I please.

I understand it's a team game. I have no problem criticizing either side equally. My problem is people not seeming to have the same expectations for both sides of the ball. Nothing more or less.

Oh yeah.. ST too. I guess

I think Rex see us like SSS sees the Panthers. Don't see it happening. If we get someone, I'd expect them be someone outside, who has worked with us.
