With Steve Smith returning to practice yesterday do you think he will start on Sunday or come off the bench?

He will start and establish himself for this team. .

Thing is, nobody would have cared if Perriman came in healthy and played better than TORREY and if SSS was playing alongside him, you wouldn't hear a peep about Boldin because SSS has been playing lights out.

But it's hindsight. Nobody knew we'd be here.

Last Line. Fate took us to 1-4 because mojo was missing in the 4th Q, penalties killed us and the D became absolutely questionable. Your Perriman view is confusing because he was the Torrey Smith replacement deep threat.

Yeah, he is the deep threat, but everyone is up in arms about him being injured which brought on the, "shoula kept Torrey" talks. I'm saying if Perriman came straight in and blew the roof off, we'd be saying Torrey who?

It's just funny seeing these comments because like you said, he is the Torrey replacement, but he's already getting negativity thrown his way.

Bit too early for me to cry over McPhee. We only have a five game sample without him, and its mostly amplified by losing Suggs. Takes at least probably two years before we can definitively say "yeah, we really miss that guy".

For what its worth, I think Graham and McPhee were two completely different situations. Graham, for the most part, didn't get that much money from Buffalo. He was just more of a "luxury" item at the time he hit FA for us, we didn't have much cap space to pay anybody at the time, and he was a good but not great player for this team.

McPhee everybody knew wouldn't be retained after his third year. He went to the highest bidder on the open market, and no team can pay that much for depth as a pass rusher.

obviously their situations where different, but they both still hurt us. Corey Graham wasn't a shutdown corner but he was good, something we haven't had in our secondary since he left. Seriously our secondary has looked like dirt cheese ever since.

Same thing with McPhee, of course we couldn't afford him, but we certainly could use him. Especially now that doom and size are sidelined

Thankfully it looks like Forsett, Yanda and Dumervil will play this weekend.  Webb, Brooks, Waller, Perriman and Canty all did not practice.  Not having Brooks or Webb will definitely hurt

Why haven't we brought in Ed to be a assistant/consultant for the secondary :( His presence alone will be a constant reminder of what is expected..

Maybe because he doesn't want to coach and/or wouldn't be a very good coach.

Not all (in fact I'd say most) great players never make good coaches, particularly at this level.

Update from Rotoworld re: Vernon Davis...

Davis is tentatively expected to return for Week 6, but facing the Ravens' elite tight end defense, he'll be a tough sell as a TE2 if he's active.

I laughed out loud.  I expect Davis to have a career resurgence game, and for that matter Garrett Celek to have a career performance against us.

Ed has expresed interest in coaching before, and out of all the ex players everyone wants to come back and coach, he is the only one I think would actually be a decent. I think he just wanted to take some time off of playing, and initially thought he could be playing this year. I think if he does end up on our sideline it will be through that intern program the league has

You're mistaken sir. Ed has been incredibly vocal about his desire to one coach in the future, even recently.

And it clearly wouldn't be a prominent title like "Secondary Coach".. it would be under a consultant process first then lead into the leagues intern program.

Also you're clearly not familiar with your football history. Mike Munchak, Gary Kubiak, Jason Garrett, Jeff Fisher, Ron Rivera, Leslie Frazier, Jim Harbaugh, Sean Payton, Mike McCoy, Doug Marrone.. then you get into the Ditka era when almost every head coach was an amazing player at one time.

“I could see me working in the organization here,” Reed said. “I could see me working for Ozzie [Newsome] and those guys, and Steve [bisciotti] because I put so much into it and I know how they work. And they taught me so much.

“I think I can help pretty much any organization if I’m a position coach, a consultant, whatever. But I still have a lot to learn, and I’m willing to learn because it’s a different craft when you’re talking about coaching.”

Update: CB Lardarius Webb (thigh) is doubtful. The rest - Dumervil, Forsett, Gillmore, Smith Sr., Givens and Yanda are questionable.

So no #2 CB, Top pass rusher,#1 RB,#1 TE, top RG, WR and other WR.

We're gonna get destroyed. Torrey might have a career day. Who on our roster Besides Brooks can even ATTEMPT to keep up with Torrey? I'm expecting to be 1-5 by Sunday night.

let's not overestimate colin kaepernick's ability to find the open man in time and deliver him the ball.  he can be rattled quite easily and he's slow in his progressions.

In order to get rattled he needs to be hit. Have you seen our pass rush lately? And have you seen our coverage? Plus Dumervil and Webb probably aren't playing which means our defense will be even worse. I'm calling for a career game for Kaepernickle. Torrey might get one too, lord knows no one in this team is fast enough to cover him.

Worst NFL game of the year.

The 49ers haven't shown that they pass well (NFL Ranking 31st)

They haven't shown that they score consistantly (NFL Ranking 32nd)15 points per game avg

They haven't shown that they can keep their offense on the field (NFL Ranking 29th)

Even with our injuries and slow start we should be able to get this one. The keys: Stop/Neutralize their run game, maintain mental discipline (cut-down penalties) and put up at least 21 points.

GO Ravens!!! String it together! (The NEW Mantra)

I typically try to stay away from predictions, especially overly bold ones, but there's a good chance that Brandon Williams could take Marcus Martin's lunch money come Sunday. On paper, it's one of the more lopsided individual match-ups coming into the game.

Great point and oh so true. Absolutely agreed. That could definitely tip-the-scale in taking away their only strength (Run Game). Edited by jkm5bmore

Thank you kindly and I'm glad that you agree. I fully agree with you on the latter. Carlos Hyde looks very impressive on tape, but the right side of his OL including the center spot has been a major let down in the running game. Anything could happen, but I do like our chances in that department.

Well they are a one win team for a reason.

It's funny that their offensive weaknesses almost perfectly match Baltimore's defensive ones. The Ravens can't get themselves off the field in crunch time, they allow alot of points, and if ther is one thing they can do it's make the other team's aerial attack look unstoppable.

Damn your a negative dude. You just said 6 of those guys are questionable and then you go on to say " so no pass rusher, #1 rb , #1 tight end . Receiver , Blazay blAh. Like they were all ruled out. Obviously all of them won't be sitting out. The 49ers aren't in very good shape either and there's a good chance we can win this game. Just bc the start of the season has been god awful doesn't mean it will continue that way. You know what never mind. I'm tired of trying to talk people into having faith in their own team. If you wanna throw in the towel 5 games in before we face 1-4 San Fran go right ahead. I will still be here rooting for our team as they fight until the end. Edited by January J

I see this being a huge game by our offensive line. We got our guys back and Eugene Monroe looked so awesome against Cleveland, so happy to have him back. I think our offensive line preforms very well.

I don't need "stats" to tell me what my eyes do....

The Ravens haven't shown that they can score needed TD's instead of FG's to put teams away

The Ravens haven't shown that they can avoid multiple 3 & outs

The Ravens haven't shown that they can eliminate unnecessary self-inflicting penalties

The Ravens haven't shown that they can get off the field on 3rd downs

The Ravens haven't shown that they can maintain a lead and close out games for the win

Therefore, there is no way that I am saying that they can "get this one" whatsoever and being on the road out west at that!  No way!  I'm just hoping for a "W" but won't be surprised if they come out of this game 1-5.

GO RAVENS!

On our team "questionable" means out 9/10 times. Sorry I'm not an optimist when we're 1-4 and half our starters at injured.

you think all 6 of them are going to sit? I think at least forsett and crock suit up. And that's all we will need.

However I forgot I gotta predict a loss in order for us to win. So Ravens 28 niners 31
