The good, bad and ugly vent Browns at Ravens.

Yeah for sure but there have been some really stupid penalties that have really hurt us at critical times along with there just being a ton of penalties.

I don't disagree. It's just that we're a very young team and I think the penalties comes with being young. No excuse, mind you, but the lack of discipline seems to be a result of the youth.

Eh maybe, is there any correlation between penalties and how long they have been in the league?

I recall some young teams in the past committing a ton of penalties. I can't recall atm, but I do remember this being thrown around regarding young teams and penalties.

I think that comes off less as an excuse and more as a problem with the team that should correct itself in time.

You cant sit there and say after week one you werent excited to see our defense develope this year, we held the Broncos for 220 yards, forced an INT and sacked peyton numerous times.  I think losing suggs has made a massive difference that no one thought one player could, he simply was the last player of our iconic defense and still had that swag that put fear into qbs.

Your offense can stand on the offense side of the ball though as we have no idea what we have in BP and Camp isnt even comparable to the old injury prone Amendola.  Aiken is a 3 at best.  Forsett i think is a great asset for our team, our system, by no means elite.  SSR doesnt really count since he wont be here next year.  Waller and our TE group have a huge potential, but potential is just another meaning for "havent done anything yet."  (forgot what coach said that)

Yep, losing Suggs was bigger than anyone, myself included, could have imagined. He is one of the few gifted players we had left. I do believe his presence would have made a big difference in the outcome of one or more of our close losses. If nothing else, he was more disciplined than any of our other defenders. I agree that Forsett has been a great asset to our team but we would be even a better team if we had Ray Rice.

Honestly I think if Suggs never got hurt we are 3-2. He completely changed the dynamics of our defense

No. The Browns are bad. That was an embarrassment.

The Browns lead the AFC North with 5 games to go last season, they ain't bad at all. If their defense gets its act together, they catch Cincy

This blind optimism is a conundrum too me. Why do you think we'll turn around? Also, being forced into OT against The Browns at home wouldn't scream "us being playoff bound yada yada" IMO.

As much as these 4 losses have stung we're still only 2 games back in the wild card race with 11 games remaining in the season. Yes losing sucks and it makes people feel a certain way but those 4 losses were by an average of 4 points and honestly could have gone either way. The fact is, we're not getting blown out of games. We're contending all the way to the final minutes and we're playing competitively.

Granted a 1st year offense, injuries, and penalties have made it a difficult start but these aren't things we cant overcome.

Don't fall inline with the rest of our naive fans who think the season is over. It's going to be a fight to stay in contention but it's looking as though 9 wins will be enough to claim one of the wild card spot this year and i have faith our team can rebound.

Take a look at the rest of the conference.

1.) Patriots 5-0

2.) Bengals 5-0

3.) Broncos 5-0

4.) Colts 3-2

-----------------

5.) Jets 3-1 > Wild Card #1

6.) Bills 3-2 > Wild Card #2

12.) Dolphins 1-3

13.) Ravens 1-4

14.) Chiefs 1-4

15.) Texans 1-4

16.) Jaguars 1-4

This is our remaining schedule and opponents current record:

9.) Jaguars 1-4

10.) Rams 2-3

They are not half bad.  Still, we have had two "must win" games at home and we came up without character.  To my mind that seals it for us.

If Josh McCown stays healthy, he is a much better QB than many people think.  He had no Offensive Line with Tampa last year. It wasn't his fault.

Hopefully we beat the Browns in Cleveland, but they are not bad with that QB.

One of the penalties by Babin resulted in a TD after the Browns had been stopped on 3rd down. He would not have been here if Suggs was healthy. Likely to have won the Bengals game too.

The Browns play Denver this weekend; could be interesting.

They are all #4's at best. Hope Waller is well the guy looks like he cares unlike Marlon

Waller was looking great on special teams. He was getting soooo close to blocking a few kicks.

You can point to the fact that we are only 2 games out of the Wildcard race, but the fact remains that the team has to not only win games, but go on a remarkable run to just get to 9 wins.

They are 1-4 right now. So that means that they are going to have to go 8-3 the rest of the season.

This team has shown what so far that says they are capable of that?

No, it's not impossible. .it's highly improbable though.

Also, what happens IF they get there and have to play Denver or New England?

Sorry, but being realistic is the opposite of naive

....WE JUST GAVE UP 450+ yards passing to Josh McCown for crying out loud!

We lost to Oakland and Cleveland..two average at best teams and made them look REALLY good in the process.

It's over. I'm not turning my back on them or disowning my team and I'll be watching every snap until week 17 but the reality here is that the talent is just not there right now.

Finally someone else uses the word realistic

This is basically where i stand.  A lot of people wanted to say its over after the Oakland game, then the cinci game and i was right there saying we are still in this race.  The Bengals are an extremely talented team and i expected to lose to them anyways, regaurdless of how are season was going, im actually shocked it was that close.  Then the Browns game- at home in a absolute must win, and we absolutely blew it on defense.  Now you can sit there and say if it wasnt for one of the luckiest catches of all time, we win that game, but we didnt.  If we cant beat the browns at home in a must win situation, with all the injuries added in, i have almost zero confidence we can go on a winning streak like one is needed.   But if we did...it would just keep our "never quit stimga" alive

Now since the AFC is extremely weak, we might be able to hang in there, but dont kid yourself, we are not beating denver or NE in their house this year, Joe can only do so much, he cant rush the qb and play corner.  I still want us to win many games as a possible, and will watch every game, because you have to stick by your team through the bad times to appreciate the good times.

We said a lot of these same things back in 2008, when we won 9 of our last 11 games, en route to the AFCCG. We said no way we make the playoffs, and even if we somehow did, we'd get bounced in the wild card round. We were also battling insane amount of injuries that year; I think we had 18 guys on the IR heading into the playoffs.

That being said, I agree with you this time around. Back then, our formula was great defense, control the clock with the run game, and just make a couple splash plays here and there on offense. That is a time honored recipe for success that has no expiration date. This team....well, we can't even beat the Browns at home, in a game we dropped 30 pts on them no less...

On a positive note, I'm glad Eugene Monroe was cleared for play and performed well. Concussions are nasty.

Well since the "season's over" you guys might as well turn off the TV and go about your merry way. No need in being upset every Sunday, right?

However, if you go to turn your TV back on during the playoffs and happen to notice the Ravens playing the dark horse roll as a wild card - just remember - you're not allowed to root or celebrate for them because you revoked your fan card in week 5 of the regular season. Wah, wah, wah....

No worries though, after the playoffs are over you can always reapply for a new seat on the bandwagon. Hell you might even be able to get a window view the way everyone is jumping ship.

Injuries and I don't know if the secondary coaching or the players but it can't be every corner that we get can't cover.  I think the communication is wack as well.  I'm so tired of seeing the players walking around and actually looking like they're confused on certain plays.  Pressure is another issue because I don't care how bad a team or QB is in the NFL.  If he's able to stand back there and hold the ball like he's in no contact drills then throw the ball any receiver can get open.  So although we are attacking the secondary we need to be able to pressure the QB to force him to make bad throws.

Yeah, we're pretty much playing for pride from here on out. In the immortal words of Jim Mora, "Playoffs? Playoffs? Who said anything about playoffs? I can't even get that excited about how well we played against Denver in a losing cause. Their HOF QB has thrown 6 TDs and 7 INTs. He's just a shell of the man he used to be.
