The good, bad and ugly vent Browns at Ravens.

802 posts in this topic

For all the good things the O did in the 1st quarter and a half, the failure to put the game away is what gave our D a chance to lose yet another game.  This team lacks killer instinct and it has been gone since players like Boldin and Pollard were cast away.

The browns secondary is also JV quality minus Haden and Gipson so the fact that the guys couldn't make anything happen is sad.

Favored you for honesty.

We have made some terrible decisions.  We made this bed and now we get to sleep in it.

It's ok, I'm also a big Blackhawks fan and they were moving the puck last night like a real champion.

The hardest thing to watch is the complete lack of a pass rush.  I honestly don't think our secondary is as horrible as all you repeatedly say it is.  We have now started blitzing on almost every 3rd down trying to manufacture pressure because our guys up front can't rush the passer.

Outside of Brandon Williams I think all the guys on the D line are either has-beens or never-wills

The worst secondary I have ever seen Arrington is horrible Kendrick Lewis is just brutal to watch and Jimmy Smith loves to play 50 yards off the receiver he's useless and a waste of money

Yes fire Pees. As for Trestman I definitely think he stays. He's running an offense he isn't used to and we are putting up enough points to be in these games our defense puts us in.

If our defense could stop anything and our offense played the same way everyone would be thrilled with Trestman. He's doing his job the defense needs to do theirs.

Another third and 2 in the fourth quarter and Trestman goes for another bomb again. He has done that late in the game three times now and we lost every one of them. You do not do that in a critical close game. Trestman has to go.

Oh please more excuses. He put him there versus the Bengals too.

I understand The Bengels game but how can you literally blame Pees for putting Arrington on outside when both his starting cornerbacks are hurt in this game. That's not even  me making any excuses that's just being quite reasonable. How can you blame Pees for having more trust in Arrington to start on the outside over a rookie cornerback whom clearly is raw at the moment?

Will Hill

Kendrick Lewis

Terrence Brooks

Dean Pees

So now what? It doesn't count unless a WR catches it? 44 is NOT the new 30. Please. You should not have to put up 40 pts to win even in the new NFL. That is baloney.

Defenses are doing what they can to deal with the rule changes, (ours excepted), but if you don't understand 30 aint what it was you are not watching the same game.

Is there a rule against starting threads after a game?I wanted to comment on that CJ Mosley thread. His play needs it's own thread.Shoving everything into one thread is a conversation killer.I'm not trying to call out any mods with this post either.

Dean Pees has figured out a way to make Mosley look bad after his terrific rookie season last year. Mosley will be fine with a new DC who knows how to use him properly.

I don't understand how a big chunk of our players suddenly get worse.

What happened to Jimmy and Mosley and Wagner etc.

The player around them not doing their job. Mosley had a bad game but the majority of it is they aren't being put in positions to be successful. Jimmy and CJ made great plays in Denver when we actually had a pass rush and full secondary, there's only so much they can do when the QB has clean looks and plenty of time off of every snap.

Before the 50+ yard strike to Gabriel, their WRs had something around 70 yards receiving, I believe.  The biggest issue today was covering the TE and RBs out of the backfield.  I'm still a huge fan of Mosley, but he's been absolutely brutal in coverage this year.  That's not to say the secondary is good by any means, but the stats aren't showing where the real issue is.  As you said though, pass rush is the real issue to me.  Blitzing is the only way we're getting pressure.  Sometimes it works, but when it doesn't, we get ourselves into real trouble.

Carl Davis has been great on the DL, by the way.

Look I will agree Ozzie gambled big this offseason and he lost big time, but I'm not pulling the trigger on getting rid of him by any means. He blew it this offseason big time on quite a few things. I say wait and see what he does next and he can put together a good team for a comeback season next year.

Honestly thought those 3 were lock to get to probowls this preseason. Things sure went south.

If you're losing to the Browns at home, you pretty much just suck. I don't think we'll be able to win more than 4 games.

Funny, since 30 points would have been enough to beat Green Bay and Cincy today, two of the best offenses in the league

On the topic of Ozzie...

He absolutely doesn't get a pass.  Some of the issues here are without a doubt on him.  We needed a CB something bad and we waited for Arrington.  I liked the Arrington move at the time, but you still had a huge question mark in Webb.  We needed and still need a WR, and I think every single one of us knew that, and we didn't grab one.  I'm of the opinion that we let too much talent bypass us in FA because of the comp pick formula.

With that being said, I think the guy still has earned the benefit of the doubt.  We've been a consistent contender for many years now.  No one could have predicted that Ray Rice's fiasco would happen and that Pitta would dislocate his hip again.  That's a lot of money tied up in players that aren't on the field.  That really affects the talent we can bring into the organization.

Spot on brother!

Of all of our problems I put Ozzie at the top.

His personnel decisions post championship have killed us. He doesn't understand our weaknesses. Truly has no clue, because hes old. Last year he had an episode in Chicago. I know because I was there. He's collecting checks now.

Anyway Mosely can't cover and the worse our secondary gets the more clear that becomes. Sergio had a bad knee when drafted.

I blame Oz and though Pees needs to be the immediate scalp, Oz must go.

he had an episode in chicago? can you elaborate?

Ozzie has to catch some flack for this team. I think the time for Eric DeCosta to take over is rapidly approaching.

Agree on the former.....this needs to be his final year.  His plan post championship to leave us in good shape is a disaster.

On the second point, DeCosta has been part of the mismanagement.  Bisciotti needs to dig deep....way down into his pockets and spend some of that saved Salary Cap money on a GM with a modern resume.  Seattle.

When you already have a awful secondary having the worst coverage linebacker in the league doesn't help much. I'd honestly rather have UPSHAW back there for coverage. Mosley's been nothing this year.

I'm all aboard the torches and pitchforks bandwagon right now but this is a terrible post/overreaction, Mosley was putting on a clinic against Denver when our pass rush and blitz schemes were working properly. CJ had a bad game today for sure but at the end of the day he's a top 5, 3-4 ILB's in football.

Another week, another 4th quarter lead blown. We had 10 days rest, basically a bye, and can't finish. This d still can't make tackles. I'm not sure why I'm surprised.

Funniest thing about McCown looking like Drew Brees out there today is that we have an OC who probably knows him as well as any coach or coordinator out there. 10 days to prepare + best scouting report possible on the opposing journeyman QB = giving up 450+ yards passing @ home. Doesn't get any more disheartening than that.

Nine games this morning. Only 3 with scores over 30. Two of those teams lost in OT. The other won handily with the other team only scoring 17. Oddly, no one scored 40.
