WR's stepping up

Givens, Aiken(cheap depth. It's needed), and Perriman(Who deserves a chance) can stay. We need an overhaul.

Yea, forgot about BP lol (it's kind of easy at this point) but I disagree about Aiken. Would not like to see him back at all.

Aiken probably wouldn't be bad in the slot. But Ozzie and Decosta needs to start evaluating WRs in the draft asap. Going after old (aside from SSS), journeymen, and UDFAs will only hold this team back.

Agreed about journeymen and UDFA's but Ozzie has been money with older vets and Flacco seems to like them a lot more than the young guys because they're more reliable and experienced. I'm about to lose all trust in Ozzie and company with drafting WR's.

The thing is - are we going to be able to go out and get an entire receiving corps in the offseason? Who do you propose we keep if we're dumping Aiken? I know he's nothing to write home about, but he's better than the rest of the lot.

Well assuming SSS comes back and BP comes out of the Twilight Zone, we'll have those two, hopefully keep Givens which gives us a third, Camp gets healthy and comes back for depth and we sign a solid vet or two that hits free agency or is cut or spend a first round pick on a WR since it's becoming more evident we'll be picking from the cream of the crop in this years draft. The WR market will be solid in 2016 and I could see players like Garcon, Vincent Jackson, DeSean Jackson and Roddy White being released and I'd love to have any one of those guys.

Something else I want to say: We don't need a bonafide super star WR to get the job done as evidenced by our recent Super Bowl run. We just need reliable targets that Joe trusts with a variety of possession and speedy deep threats. Our TE's are promising, now mix in some playmakers on the outside and our offense looks dangerous.

OK - but that's a serious list of assumptions.

Truth be told....every single ravens receiver aside from SSS is garbage.  Release them all!

I'd keep Aiken. He provides meaningful depth. He's definitely not a starter but he's a quality 3 or 4.

True, but this WR corps really needs an overhaul. It's getting ridiculous at this point.

I think we need to be more aggressive with WR. We've played our hand to conservatively. Maybe that has to do with our unlucky draw at WR, and maybe the F.O feels a bit more confident with Vets. I find it weird how we always seemed to focus on veteran additions at WR. While we've found some gems in Boldin, Mason, and Smith Sr., we've had some duds in Lee Evans, Marlon Brown, Tandon Doss, Jeremy Butler and Tommy Streeter, and ect. expecting these guys to step up and only to be disappointed. You'd think we'd learn our lesson by now.

At some point, enough is enough. What we usually do in FA works but what we do at WR doesn't. I can recall in a conference call with Steve Biscotti, he was really confident in this group of WRs. Granted we selected Perriman, but he felt that we already had a good group of guys. I'm sure he has to be surely disappointed. We can't waste what is Joe prime years here, if we have to do what Jacksonville did by selecting back-to-back WRs then so be it. I feel like we're scratching the surface of an elite offense with the fact that we have an offensive line that can compete with the best of them, but we sorely lack WRs who can not only make plays but get open. Its becoming a common trend here that's be haunting us for how long now, 17 Years?

I feel like the more these WRs underpreform, the bit of leverage we have in Joe's contract talks get decimated. (If we have any at all).

Well...the way it stands right now, we don't have any viable receivers.

We have the NFL's Receiver Orphans. Ozzie found them on the doorstep of M&T Bank and brought them in out of the cold.

Hoping any of the orphans mentioned in this thread are still with the team next year really does christen the new Raven era...."Boys Town".

Maybe we should rename this WRs stepping out at this point. Not seeing any of them stepping up.

One step foward, two steps back. and a pcl sprain.

Maybe that would actually help.

WR is the biggest hole on the roster, I'm going to tell you this, I hope I don't have to hear, "We don't need a WR, I think we're set there" from the Front office. This was said last year, the year before and this year. You'd think they would learn their lesson by now.

I agree but if we get a real high pick I would look defense first and then 2nd rd make a play with possibly another pick later.

I think the 2nd round is the sweet spot at WR for us. I can see Michael Thomas, Tyler Boyd or Corey Coleman being there.

Yeah its the end of November. Lets cut ALL of our recievers. Thats a GREAT idea.

Lets cut all of the players and start inserting guys from the boards out there, that ought to show those guys.

I do not want either of those guys!! All are 30 or older. Garcon had one big year. Jackson will be 33 and white 34. Desean is a player that uses speed. At 30 he will begin to lose that speed. I want a WR 28 or younger signed or traded for and a rookie WR in the first 2 rounds. so Joe could build chemistry before the receiver begins his decline!! I would prefer a young WR signed that has the tools to breakout but has been held back by bad QBs and offense. Somebody like Quick who was having breakout games even with terrible QBs before his injury. Then draft a receiver in first 2 rounds like Coleman,Thomas or Boyd. Then hopefully Maxx gets in better shape and steps up as well.

I still like Marqise Lee. He is behind in the offense because he missed games and weeks off practices while his qb got comfortable with other WRs. But you could see his explosion and gazelle like moves on display the times he did play. Not sure the jags would trade him however. I heard the offensive coaches maintain his ceiling is higher than Robinson or Hurns. However as much as i like Marqise, it is hard to justify a round 4 pick for a player that's been bruised up.
