[News] Late For Work 10/9: Ravens Could Make Justin Tucker Richest NFL Kicker

63 posts in this topic

On Tucker's contract .... I don't know how hard that is going to be. He's the best kicker in the league. Use Gostkowski's contract as the base and pay him a little more.

I think we're going do everything and anything to keep both Yanda and Tucker this offseason. Whatever has to be done to clear space to make that happen is going to be done.

I get nervous when the Ravens are the overwhelming pick to win. Hope the players don't let up off the gas pedal a bit mentally being overly confident. We were the overwhelming pick against the Raiders as well and lost. I do think the players are still in desperation mode mentally and will hopefully play lights out, as though they are the underdogs. The Ravens are underdogs in the record/standings right now so that should be enough motivation to not take this game lightly. This is a "must win" game as well.

Yeah, it has often led to a let down when overwhelmingly favored to win.

Without getting ahead of ourselves, it is best we focus on winning this game first. West coast trip coming up right after. Who knows how we fare, but if we can win 2 of 2 in those games, the first 3 games will feel like a distant memory!

all signs point to us having a big day on the ground, which tells me.... we wont.

Hahaha. That's usually how it goes, isn't it?

I love our kicker JT, but if the coaching staff relies too much on a kicker to win games, then I'm really worried. I dislike the fact about Flacco telling the coach "Let him win it" during the Pittsburgh game. I guess I'm asking too much from a $20 million a year QB to win the games with TDs rather than field goals.

Justin Tucker's total 440 points scored for the Ravens since 2012, as opposed to Joe Flacco's 474 is a serious bargaining chip to show his worth to this team come contract time. As the saying goes, "Pay the man".

True, but wouldn't necessarily say that increases a kickers value. There's plenty of kickers who score tons of points.

If you were to compare Tucker to others kickers, the highest paid one I believe is Gostkowkski from NE. He has scored 502 points in that same period of time, so he's 62 points ahead of Tucker.

From a kicker perspective, the highest single season ranking Tucker has had in terms of points scored is 6th. He's actually never been inside the top 5 in scoring for kickers.

He does currently rank #1 for points scored by kickers so far in 2015, though he's only 4 points ahead of Gostkowski who has played one less game.

There is nothing else about our offense that makes opposing fans give up and go home like Justin Tucker in a game-winning situation. He is money. Pay the man.

tucker deserves to be one of the top 2 highest paid kickers in the league and he knows what his value is but i am hoping that he wants the team to be competitive and will ask for a contract that will allow the team to sign guys that will help make a run to the sb for years to come. flacco has already said he will restructure at the end of the season plus we will have rice and ngatas dead money off the books. the salary cap will be increased as well so there should be some $$ available to resign guys and possibly make a play for a couple of key free agents

I've seen Marlon brown open numerous times but maybe Joe just sticks with play called or the situation Joe was in didn't make it capable to throw to him. I have faith that Marlon can make a difference.

Just hoping we don't come out and run, run, run. They know they're bad against the run, but with our ever thinning pass targets, they may roll the dice and throw everything at stopping the run game. Just hope we make a game plan change QUICKLY if the run game isn't there. How about a fake hand-off and take a shot down the field on the first play.......that'll keep 'em guessing the rest of the game!!

LOL, you don't need a chart for this...

Since 2012 (52 regular season games):

Tucker - 440 points (107 FGs, 119 PATs).

Flacco - 474 points (73 TD passes, 6 TD runs).

Just one thing to add:

PAY. THE. MAN.

Does anyone knows how Rice and Pitta contracts affect next year cap? Because they're part of the reason as to why we're always having cap troubles, we have too much dead money...

I think we'll make Tucker the highest paid kicker, or at least the second highest, He earned that.

Cleveland will play us tough as always. They may even have an early lead. Our running game will produce points, not just exasperating field goals in the red zone. To win this game, with the Brown's lousy defensive line, our offense has to dominate the red zone and pound the ball into the EZ.

I'm keeping the Faith in Marlon, too. This could be a breakout game for him or Aiken, maybe even Givens??? Who knows, but we'll see how it goes.

LOL, what has that got to do with anything??

People need to know lol. I remember when people said he was the best LB behind Ray Lewis when Ray still played

Not that I don't love having Justin Tucker, but you can't just sign someone to a big, long-term contract without thinking about what other part of the team you could improve with that money. If Tucker ends up wanting $4 million per year more than an average kicker, the Ravens have to ask themselves if that $4 million dollars is *best* spent on keeping Tucker, or if it would help the team more overall to put it to another use (resigning Yanda, picking up a free-agent wide receiver, etc.). I'm not sure that spending premium money on a kicker is the best decision.

If we lose this game, it's on ozzie and the FO for throwing in the towel. We need a vet WR just plain and simple...... M.brown, Aiken have gotten many opportunities to prove their worth. As of today, They are good NFL players. Not starters and certainly not together as the #1 and 2 options.

We passed on everyone in the offseason then perriman fell in our lap. He got hurt then again then sss gets hurt and still no sense of urgency..... I can't fault M.Brown or Aiken for not filling sss boots because they are not that. There are so many options out there. Cheap ones, expensive ones, and one year rentals. I don't care if we waste a second rounder on a rental as long as I know our FO fought with this team till the end.

We are probably one loss away from just dumping this season and looking forward to next year. If now is not the time to take a risk, when is that time?!

I'm gonna ride with this team through the rough and ugly days but am extremely disappointed that my Ravens FO is just playing it conservative when we need to fight bad luck with fire. Ozzie is the best in the business at assessing talent. I'm sure he has a list of guys he can bring in tomorrow if given the chance. Let him do what he does best!

I'm surprised so many pundits are on the Ravens. This seems almost like a matchup between two pretty equal teams to me, with the only real advantage being the home field. As for Forsett's production, I think they only way he takes a dip is if they feel more powerful runners like Taliaferro and Allen can get more consistent gains up the gut vs Cleveland's weaker LBs.

cool story bro. that doesnt make him a great wr. i dont care how seriously he takes it, if he cant gain separation and if he doesnt know how to use his size, then he is not a great wr. you do not know for a fact that he is a great wr, because it is not a fact. just because you know the guy doesn make him anything special, hate to break it to ya.
