[News] Ravens Wide Receivers Fired Up By Doubters

90 posts in this topic

Did you miss Wes Welker there and Edelman who isn't amazing but has great hands and speed and the best offensive player in the NFL in Gronk. The reason that the Patriots sometimes do so well with little is because of their scheme. Short passes means less chances of it being picked off. They rely on YAC and they have the speed to do it. If you stop the short routes Brady cannot throw the ball deep to save his life. Like I said before Flacco has no help whatsoever. Bengals have Green and Eifert, with one of the best running back duos behind Dalton. Steelers have the best running back in the league right now (in my opinion) and Antonio Brown who is a top 5 talent. Browns HAD Gordon but he is stupid so.... Flacco has a 36 year old wide out as his number 1. I love Steve Smith and I think he is underrated and he is a hall of famer and went to school 10 miles away from me right now, but when he is our only threat on the offensive side of the ball it is not good. Forsett was a back up on every team he was on before and he has played alright between this season and last but he needs to step it up going forward. If Flacco had a legitimate target in his career I think the Ravens would not be close to losing every single game. People can argue Boldin but look what he has done since he left and he only averaged 800 yards a season here. Mason was on the tail end of his career when Flacco got drafted. Flacco will not be a hall of fame quarterback because of his lack of weapons, not because of him being inconsistent. Just think if Flacco and Ryan got switched in the draft. What do you think Flacco would have done with Julio Jones, Roddy White, and Tony Gonzalez his first couple years.

I get sick and tired of people comparing Flacco's WR's and RB to other QB's WR and RB's. Gronkowski 2nd Rd, Brown 6th, Bell 2nd Rd and Edelman 7th Rd. These same guys could've been drafted by the Ravens. At some point you have to give the QB credit for making these guys and the QB failures for the offensive woes. Brady is playing with 3 rookie lineman and it's as if he never missed a beat, Antonio Brown is a perfect example, without Ben Roethlisberger he wasn't as effective. Flacco is being paid to be a top 5 QB so there is no reason for the offensive woes they're having. He has more turnovers than he has touchdowns. He's getting away with highway robbery if you ask me.

I am SOOOO cheering for these guys to prove themselves. I don't think we'll throw a lot in this game, I think it's more likely that Flacco throws for around 200 yards and Forsett breaks the 100-yard mark again.

I'm a big fan of Marlon Brown and Kamar Aiken, they've broken the odds as undrafted players, stepped in nicely when had to in 2013 and 2014, they're just having a slow start. They're obviously not #1 receivers, but oh well..

It's good to hear the guys are getting fired up by all the doubters. Problem is this is not a group of WR's coming out of a funk. Besides Smitty they all need to go out there and prove they even deserve to be a starter first.

What's a #1 receiver? asks Kamar. I hope you get to find out on Sunday. I think you'll know the answer once you've experienced it.

You might say it's shaping up to be a back-against-the-wall story. Also, a story of redemption, and a story of overcoming all odds. While all of that is true, I do have confidence in this group of receivers. I believe, Flacco will find completions come Sunday and these guys will turn the tide, giving us our second win of the year. Justin Forsett might have a lot to do with that and the Browns have shown that they are dead last in run defense. I have doubts that that will change this week. Although with our luck, they'll be better that that 32nd mark.

Eh...this is always said in here when they perform badly and then they go out and repeat the performance.  Just shut up and show up on the field come game time is what I say.  Let's see it!

Guess we'll see just how fired up they are come this Sunday because apparently it take someone saying things to get them fired up to play. Why didn't we think of this 2 years ago, maybe Brown and Aiken would be premier receivers by now...

I actually feel bad for Aiken. Everyone has been hating on him for how terrible he's been, but it was completely unrealistic to expect him to produce as a starting WR. He's been on multiple PS's as recently as just a couple of years ago. It's pretty amazing he even made our roster. Aiken really isn't to blame, it's more the FO's fault along with some bad luck with injuries

wow after reading these comments i see why the guys are pissed and so am i because ive seen all these receivers with the exception of waller have success in this league and the fact you call yourselves ravens fans just because they dont have spectacular numbers or high quality stats you doubt them. however i dont because i know and have seen when given the opportunity they are amazing and different receivers that can give us all sorts of match up advantages im gonna tell u a quote that always makes me think of the team "same thing thats makes you laugh will make you cry" that was by ray lewis and the more u doubt these guys the more motivation they have to prove not just u but the league wrong in the long run

Please show me where these guys have had success in this league.

Brown was an undrafted f/a that signed with the Ravens in 2013 - he's in his third season - career td's = 7

Aiken was on the Bears practice squad and was waived, then signed with Patriots practice squad then released. career td's =4

not much success

Exactly, some of our fellow fan mates on here go way overboard with players. Aiken made some nice plays but I need to see much more before I vouch for him. Remember when some guys on here were cuckoo for Bernard Pierce and he was a letdown.

Aiken is actually the guy of these four I have the most faith in. We wouldn't have beaten Pittsburgh without him and apart from that terrible fumble against Oakland, he has been as good of a #2 receiver as we can expect. He made the most of his opportunities last year for a decent statline and has improved in my opinion each week this season. I really dig the Givens pickup and he will be solid once he has the offense down pat but I think it is unrealistic to think he will be extremely involved this week anyway. I also really like Waller's potential but this is also a 6th round rookie coming from a very run heavy offense so he still has a way to go. Brown to me is the biggest disappointment. After being one of the team's few bright spots his rookie year, he seems to drop at least one pass every single game now. I wish the best and hope he can truly contribute but the drops have me pessimistic about his role...

People have been talking trade rumors for WR's recently. What about Cordarelle Patterson? He could be the kick returner, and deep threat we are looking for until Perriman gets back. He is isn't even being used in minnesota and you would have to think the GM would like to get something for him before his contract expires.

His recovery was slow so he got surgery. Will take a couple months to heal. Probably won't see him back until after the bye week.

Perriman didn't get surgery, he just got scoped. They just took a peek inside. That's far from sugery.

Well the WR's don't get all the blame for this in my opinion... The play calling has been geared more to getting SSS the football... Joe has a tendency to lock in on a particular WR thru the course of a game... 3 of his 5 picks we thrown in SSS direction... he's also under thrown some guys...missed some guys...and then his ball location has been off at times... in my opinion he should place passes a little higher on throws to Waller in the Red zone... let him use his size to win in those situation.. Chargers do it.. Furia was highly used in Detroit.. and of course there is Gronk and Jimmy... we have big bodies as well not sure why its a fade to SSS in the corner...luv him to death but we should change it up from time to time...

Flacco quotes: our receiver situation "definitely not ideal". Then....."we wouldn't want it any other way". Ummmm......got it.

call Butler up....

Waller beat out Butler in the pre-season - and we all see how much Waller can contribute. What makes you think Butler would be much - or even any... - of an upgrade?

I know when the team doesn't play well enough it's always those who don't play who seem to be the solution - but most of the time they don't play for a reason...

Fired up? they should of been fired up week 1 making millions not when we are 1-3/ All training camp I heard the same stuff, Marlon Brown was supposed to be his chance and year and we get the same old results. All these guys are back up recievers Flacco needs some weapons this wont cut it hence the 1-3 start

Ozzie likes to "rent a receiver." And when he does have a good receiver, he doesn't want to pay the (e.g. Torrey and Anquan). Only on our team would we be showcasing two undrafted WRs for this Sunday's game. In Ozzie we trust (for drafting lineman and linebackers) but not anything else.

Bahaha. So they just getting fired up? Don't they realize the storyline has never changed outside of S.Smith, there was doubt, concern, inexperienced, unproven, lack of depth, any of these words can describe the group and well they haven't shown any otherwise. I mean guys are dropping balls, and just not be ineffective.

I'd prefer that their play do the talking. Marlon brown is still living off of his rookie season, kid stays injured and is wildly inconsistent he shown the ability to make a a gutsy catch while also showing he will drop the easy ones. With the depth chart so thin who knows maybe Waller can impress and earn minutes in the future over Aiken and Brown.
