[News] Deep Threat Chris Givens Will Play Sunday

78 posts in this topic

I'm looking at Givens with an open mind. I believe him when he says SL just wasn't giving him enough chances. Innocent until proven guilty, or better yet...a good addition (possibly great) to the roster unless proven otherwise. Diamond in the rough possibly. I've always been a glass half full person anyway...but still ... :)

Givens really never had a QB in St Louis so that has a lot to do with his production... Then well St Louis drafted Tavon Austin So his role was basically diminished. He could thrive with a QB that will be reliable ( as being on the field enough to build chemistry) The fact that he is learning and memorizing the playbook already is a great sign.

This is good news, I like what I am seeing of Givens so far. He is hungry and already seems to be happy and comfortable here. I think we will see good things from Givens. Welcome to Baltimore Givens, hope you enjoy your time here, good luck.

I was concerned about his declining numbers too... until I started taking other factors into consideration. When you look at the QB, the O-line they had in St. Louis and the guys they were bringing in, how can one excel? Nobody is getting reps. Everybody is getting a few... The other factor could have simply been scheme or chemistry. Not only with the other players, but with the coaching staff. A fresh start, and an open field might just be what the Dr. Ordered.

I say let's curb our enthusiasm a bit about Givens. Since his debut in the NFL, his numbers were steadily declining season by season in almost every major category: games, starts, receptions, yards, YPC - even longest catch. All numbers seem to indicate he was declining in St. Louis - ws it because his own abilities and ceilings or his "supporting cast"? Who knows. But he sure doesn't look like the receiver who will turn around our deep passing game... Even if he had the right chemistry with Flacco - which he doesn't have. He will surely be an upgrade over our "deep threrats" so far this season... but let's be honest: that doesn't say a lot in itself...

Ya bio, I am going to take the wait and see but I am still hoping Givens could be a missing piece to the WR's and offense for Baltimore. I am not delusional to say everything is going to be perfect now but giving him an honest chance is not going to hurt and I am just hoping he turns some heads with this opportunity.

Not only will his presense allow us to take deep strikes downfield but his presence will also be something to add diversity to the entire offensive production, thus opening up run lanes in the 2nd level, and allow for chunk running plays due to the same. Givens has never had a strong arm to get him the ball, and in the right environment could literally blossom before our eyes in the coming weeks. While many have said that we need more, and we could obviously use it, this addition could at the same time give us the flexibility that we were "hoping" Perriman was gonna provide the Ravens. This kid has a positive track record and explosion...just what the Dr ordered

Yeeeeeeesssssss! We finally get some speed on the field. I'm looking for at least 2 [crap]s down the girls to him. Aiken and Brown better step up...especially Brown, all of a sudden he can't even catch anymore.

Welcome. Run fast, catch what comes your way, and secure the ball. Do that and you will fit in just fine. I don't expect too much first game but keep learning and show off the wheels. Get the secondary up the field a bit.

Marlon brown is 6'5 and plays like hes 6'0 meaning he doesnt jump for the ball ever! when he does its at the same level as a shorter defender which is very sad

Good, as long as he doesn't DROP a game winning catch in a playoff game. *cough* Tj houzmanzada, Lee Evans, Boldin *cough*

At times, we can have ALL the deep threats we want, but if Joe can't hit the broad side of the barn- then, poof ! Just win the game by any means- like many other good quarterbacks.

This is a running team and when they can run they can win. Now I'm not saying I don't want to see Joe put up big numbers in the pass game but I would rather see them get the win. I expect all three running backs to be very involved in the next few games. Hopefully this will set up play action and that is where I see Givens making a big difference.

Is he really the best option out there? I'm not so sure. The FO. hasn't been aggressive in bringing in top talent except through the draft.

I actually like the Rams a lot better now they have Nick Foles, I really like that kid (neg if you need to). And I like them even more for giving us Givens for a 7th rd pick. He sounds like a Raven all the way, can't wait to see what he can do on Sunday.

Have my fingers crossed that he does bring a pair of solid hands and speed to our passing game. Welcome to the Ravens Chris and make the most of the opportunity.

Flacco needs a good WR if he could get a good WR the Ravens will play better... last time Newsome gave Flacco a good WR in Boldin, Ravens won a superbowl.

I honestly don't feel like people need to get excited about Givens just yet. The dude hasn't done much in his career, and maybe there were political or lockerroom reasons for that. But then again, maybe not.

I got a good feeling about this guy. Do you know how you can look at someone and be like this isn't going to produce anything. We've all done that. I don't get that feeling about this guy. Chris looks stout, and tough. He looks like he is ready play to me. This is just my opinion. Finally Joe gets to do what he does best, and that's throw the deep ball. He gets a deep threat. Lets see how it works out. I think these two will gel together quickly, they have to.

Givens is definitely underrated. He will be here for a while

I hope you are right. Just what do you base your opinion on? Love to know.
