Week 5 Discussion (Other Teams)

This was easily the Texans' best show of knocking off the Colts since Luck is hurt. But even a bad Colts' team without Luck is playing better than them.

That flag just gave Houston life, and we may have another Thursday Night Football game going to OT if the Texans can come back and tie it.

LOL! Hoyer is garbage!

And Bill O'Brien looked like he was going to blow a gasket.

Hoyer should have threw the ball away. Texans will get one more shot if they hold the Colts to a 3 and out.

Jeez, 16th Consecutive win? My god how bad is the AFC South?

It's the worst division in football, and the reason why the Colts keep making the playoffs.

Looks like the Colts are gonna do what we should have done and followed up 0-2 with three straight division wins to take back control of their season. It's obviously a lot easier in their division, though. I haven't been too impressed with them, and to be honest it's hard to find many non-division wins for them left on their schedule.

Hoyer just went over 300 on them off the bench. Their next five opponent QBs: Brady-Brees-Newton-P. Manning-Ryan. Four of those next five are against undefeated squads. Where are they gonna find wins? They have the Bucs on their schedule, and maybe you can see them beating Miami. Looks like a longshot for double digit wins, or even a winning record. However, they are still in the driver's seat for their awful division and a home playoff game. Ugly truth.

I see plenty of wins. While they're not a great team by any stretch, their last six games aren't overly difficult.

They'll likely sweep their division, they can and probably will certainly beat the Saints at home, and they still play Tampa and Miami. That's 9 wins right there.

Your throw in unimpressive teams like Carolina and Pittsburgh, and I definitely see 10 wins and a division title.

Can Goodell please try to explain why Thursday Night Football every week is a good thing? I mean if anything this just proves it's a dumb idea that needs to end this season.

$$$, it demolishes in the ratings.

The NFL is a brand people tune in to watch, I won't begrudge my favorite sport being popular.

Based on your remarks after this, you watched the game.

If you watched the game, then you are the reason why Thursday Night Football happens every week.

People keep underestimating the Panthers, but you act like the Colts haven't been unimpressive. The Steelers beat them by a million last year, and that's when they were playing well. I mentioned the other two, and the division sweep. NO is the one I can't figure. The Saints and the Colts are the exact same disappointing and hard to figure teams.

They can sweep the division again, but it's hardly a given. The nearly lost all three of these games, and it was because of the defense, not Hasselbeck. They HAVE to sweep the division to get 10 wins, and that's tough.

During this record division winning streak they've been on, do you realize they're only 14-12 against non-divisional opponents, and that's when they were actually playing like a good team most of the time. They got stomped by the Bills and Jets, so they have to show me something before I just assume they win anything anymore.

1. I wouldn't expect the Colts to be impressive... they've played some pretty good teams so far this year. There's a pretty substantial difference between the Saints and the Colts... the Colts have a better QB at this stage in their career and they have a gigantic advantage offensively at the skill positions. Neither can play defense, but neither players in a division where playing good defense is important.

2. I'm not underestimating the Panthers at all, but I don't think there's any question they've got at least 6 or 7 losses coming up on their schedule. They've played four well below average teams so far this year. If they lost their next four games in a row, it would surprise nobody. By about mid-November, everybody will have a really good idea of what Carolina is.

3. Of course the Colts have to sweep their division... that's generally what happens when you play a first place schedule and play in a bad division. They play the AFC East, which is arguably the best division in football this year, and they also have to play Pittsburgh and Denver because they are a perennial division winning team.

4. This notion of them not being great against non-division opponents isn't new... they've had the same problems for years. Yet, somehow, they manage to make the playoffs and win playoff games.

Ok. I see 9-7 and winning the division by three games. Then they'll host one of those teams that crushed them earlier this year, and probably play better. We will see if they can pull out the win there.

Perhaps. Hard to determine who any of the wildcard teams will be at this point, and none of them look impressive.

Easy to say Buffalo could beat them again, but that game wouldn't be in Buffalo either, which is a huge advantage for Indy.

Looking at the rest of their schedule:

Patriots - loss

Saints - win

Panthers - probably a loss

Broncos - loss

Falcons - loss

Tampa - win

Steelers - loss

Jags - win

Texans - win

Dolphins - toss up (both teams are pretty bad in largely the same ways)

Titans - win

However, with that said, I think at least one of the bad teams they face will pull off an upset on them. Possibly the Titans or Saints. If they fall for a trap game, and the Dolphins beat them that leaves them 7-9. I can easily see that happening.

Only games I definitely think they'll lose is Patriots, Broncos (though I actually think they have a shot in that game) and Falcons.

All the other one's are possible wins from what I see.

Anything is possible, but that's a pretty optimistic way of looking at things. They have a pretty tough schedule for a team that hasn't looked good, yet.

I think the Colts go 7-9, but still win the division.

I'd be willing to bet money right now that the Colts do get in, as you say, and they do so at the expense of at least one team in the conference with a better record.
