[News] Late For Work 10/7: Trade Speculation On WRs Roddy White, Golden Tate

93 posts in this topic

1. Still haven't heard a responsible explanation for why the Lions would make Tate available and most importantly...

2. This is speculation, as is the Alshon Jeffery conversation, which I'm not even sure why we continue to have that one.

I think people need to lower their expectations significantly...

Agreed, the reality of the situation is that it is extremely doubtful that we could land Jeffery or Tate and if White is disgruntled and wants out, we can't afford his cap hit.

Its so we can dream of beautiful catches as the season goes down the toilet.

So Sara you still think getting rid of Jones was a good idea? John needs to learn one simple thing 'One in the hand beats two in the bush"

Ugh!!!! Still no new WR! Come on Ozzie make a move..

We need help

Every time a name comes up as a possibility - the same answer is given in return: We don't have sufficient cap space.

There are no #1 or #2 WRs lying around waiting for a job and there is virtually no way to bring in that kind of talent via trade at this juncture. We're going to be looking at guys on the level of Givens to add, or add nothing.

When we rolled into this season, many fans complained that we just haven't given our young guys a chance to develop and it was time to stop bringing in vets past their prime. Well ... that's what we did and it looks like they're going to have to step up.

No one has mentioned Cordarrelle Patterson lately. The Vikings have pretty much buried him on the depth chart even behind Stefon (the guy Ozzie should have selected instead of another whiff project) Diggs.

Browns spend $72,600,733 on defense this year. 2nd in the league next to Seattle. Ravens 26th at $47,002,678.

And they're dead LAST in total defense.  Nice ROI, not!!!

With probably 12 picks next year, I wouldn't mind if they got Tate for 4th rd pick, heck I wouldn't care if we gave them a 3rd for him.

Tate gets 7 million next year and 8 the year after. If we wouldn't give 9 to Torrey Smith, we wouldn't give 7/8 million to Tate.

Brigance is a special man. He needs to be cherished every chance we get. A great man touching the world through his condition.

Any long time Ravens fan knows that the odds of Ozzie trading for a big name guy are pretty slim. The season is not lost so he may bring in somebody but you will have to google his name and highlights

@757Ravensfan, The problem isnt money spent on Defense... Its DEAD MONEY!!! Rice NFL screw up killing cap for this last year with his 8-9 million in dead money, then in a highly questionable move to this day.. Ozzie not working out something with franchise cornerstone HOF potential player Ngata. 8 mill dead money hit. So you have close to 20 million in dead money from just 2 guys.

Then add Pitta, if the organization refuses to activate him week 6 and let the man attempt a comeback like he desires and wants.

So Dead money is the problem they only have like 1.5 million in cap left.

However thats no EXCUSE! Theres still plenty of cap to make a move for a WR

Ravens should ground-pound the Brownees almost every play until they bleed and fall down. Then stomp right on into the end zone with score after score. Maybe Flacco to Kumar a few times in between just for good measure:)

We need help... If Ozzie isnt going to make a trade....I scoured Practice Squads yesterday... Bears have our old friend Speed demon Deep Threat Jacoby type explosive WR Deonte Thompson.. You easily bring him in... His skill set alone is better then Marlon Brown because hes EXPLOSIVE! Deep threat.

@RavenReck27 Golden Tate is good but I like Jeffery better though :-). I want tall receivers. I would Ming if they get him though. We need another young big weapon.

Jeffery isn't on the trading block, and even if he was he is on the last year of his contract.  So we would have him for the rest of the season and then try to fight for him in F/A and he will most likely be looking for top 5 WR money.  Tate on the other hand, is unhappy in Detroit, and is rumored to have stated that he wants to be traded. If we trade for Tate we have him guaranteed for 4 years at Steve Smith money (6-7 mil/year). Not saying it is going to happen, but I think he is the best possible option, for the price, for us if we do end up making a move for another WR.  I still don't think anything will happen until sometime after Sunday's game.

Golden Tate would be a nice addition this year but IDK if he is the long term solution... whereas someone like Alshon could be a fix for now and the future!

@RavensReck27 True, Gold Tate is a good receiver and will be great to have him to replace Steve Smith but if Alshon Jeffery is on the trade block and we could afford him next year then he will be a better choice. But In my opinion I want a bigger reciever for Joe. We have that in Steve Smith for this year and while by Steve retiring Golden Tate will be a good pickup. Bad for this year due to having 2 5'10 receivers starting, good for next year when Steve Smith retiring. :-)

White is near the end of his career, and would not be a good pickup. We don't need another aging, disgruntled WR. However, I had always wanted us to get Tate, instead of Smith Sr. He's a very talented WR, and the Lions would be stupid not to keep him, and get him more involved in their offense again.

PS Many people here last year were crowing that we didn't need Ngata, and that we'd be, and I quote "Even better with Jernigan starting". Well.....do not act shocked now that that isn't happening. Ngata was a beast and a one of a kind player, the likes of which the Ravens will never see again. Don't forget that.

Ngata has barely even contributed on that Lions defense.  He has been battling multiple different injuries. He is in his 30's and on the decline, oh yeah, and all that for the cheap price of $16Mil a year. Plus we got a 4th and a 5th draft pick for him.  We made the right call letting him go, and Carl Davis, Jernigan and Brandon Williams are all very promising players that are under the age of 25 and are under rookie contracts. Jernigan hasn't performed at the level he, and we, wanted to see, but I think he will get better as the season moves along.

This. Ngata was not worth the money anymore. It's a business and it was the correct business decision.

I'd gladly take Ngata back after he collects his 20 mil and is willing to sign a cap friendly deal. Come back home Ngata

Roddy White and a healthy Perriman with SSS sounds deadly!!!! Unfortunately, so deadly that it won't happen. But it was nice for about 10 min while my mind wondered.
