[News] Ravens Have Options At Returner

31 posts in this topic

I think Ross may get promoted later this week to not only fill the PR spot but a receiving spot, unless he hasn't been doing well in practice. Who knows, SSS may end up toughin it out and we may roll with what we got. I know it's a lot different getting hit and running and what not, but in a video I saw of SSS the day after the steelers game he seemed to be moving around very well and didn't seem to be in too much pain. At least he wasn't showing it.

Yeah they might have a body to throw at returner, but they have 4 stinking WRS!!!!!

Aiken,Brown,Waller,Givens... And if you say Givens splits time as Campanaro replacement returner/Occasional dynamic speed threat...

You have 3 stinking WRS!!! A1,2 Option of Aiken an Brown.

Not going to cut it.

We need help! Ozzie make a move. Boldin trade, Andre Roberts, Jeffrey, someone.

Sign Nicks to vet minimum

I say give Givens a shot. He could give us good field position with his speed and we can use all the field position we can get with the injuries we have.

since Z. Smith is doing such a good job we could release McClellan and bring up Ross. McClellan didn't do squat against the Steelers. He lost containment on several occasions.

Please don't use a starter like Ladarius Webb or Chris Givens who we just acquired to spread the field for our other receivers. If they were to get injured we would be in even deeper **** than we are now! Lets go with Asa Jackson who can run back kickoffs & punts.

For KR Duties I like C.Givens. But bringing in Ross or James from the Practice Squad is a possibility...Harbs will figure it out. The bigger issue is whether or not he Offensive Line is gelling yet. Im not 100% with that Pittsburgh win that it is fixed.

The way Terrence Magee was hitting them holes and how he was released and brought back to PS should be good enough reasons for him to get a shot. Just a thought. We need hungry players right now. Schedule isn't getting easier.

Kick returner isn't as relevant as it used to be in past years. However, punt returner is a critical job that could make or break a game depending on how good he is. So, I hope we find a reliable punt returner either on the roster or from outside. But, do it fast.

I think the ravens should give Charles James a shot he was good with the texans and we have a struggling secondary (that did a lot better thursday) and in need of a explosive player on special teams why not give him a chance

Asa Jackson looks good once he's on the run and can be explosive and a difference maker, however, this is marred considerably by stupid decisions, that lead to fumbles, such as not calling a fair catch when he should have and in result losing the ball. I would be worried. Either use someone who is already on the roster, like Webb, Givens or Allen, or bring from the practice squad a receiver, of whom we are lacking, which would be Ross. Although, I'm not really in favor of using Webb, though he could do well - he's been playing well at CB this year, better than last season for sure and we know he's injury prone, so depth or not, he would be a loss.

How many kicks do the Ravens return in a game? 1? 2? KR just isn't that important a position anymore. Give it to Givens.

I kind of agree. Since they moved up the kickoff line, we all see a heck of a lot more touchbacks, so kickoff returner isn't as important as it used to be. It just needs someone who can hang on to the ball and more importantly, make sound decisions on when to bring it out, which I think was a knock on Jacoby. I agreed that he too often brought it out, only to give us rotten field position. As for punt returner, I think that position has a different skillset required. I guess we'll all see what/who Harbs comes up with Sunday.

I know it may be a bit off topic, (although not too much), it's always bugged me when they don't start the clock when a kickoff is made, instead, waiting to see if a kicker brings it out, then starting it. My feelings are that.....since players are blocking, being eligible to have penalties called on them, can and do get injured during a kickoff, the clock should be running when the kick is made. Ok....I'll get off my soapbox now. I just personally feel it's a dumb rule. Sorry if it's too much off topic.

Crazy as it may sound, I'd like to see Crockett Gillmore as punt returner: smart, sure-handed, and somewhat hard to stop if he gets going...

Don't care much for your crazy idea. :)  However, I have my own.......Buck Allen. Actually, I think he (or Crock) would be better suited for kickoffs, but we probably have better, more experienced options for punts. For punts, a player who gets going fast is better, I feel. Punters  usually don't get a chance to "get going". That has to happen fast.

Go ahead and put Webb back there so I can here about Ozzie around around looking for another CB and John saying "Well it look good on paper!" or "Soft tissue"

The only one of the aforementioned players who has breakaway speed is Jackson. It's that simple and he can be taught how to hold on to the ball. Bring him back and let's see what happens. His speed can make the difference between victory and defeat.

I would put ASA back there. Besides, like the Ravens REALLY have a choice. Ravens save 2 million dollars letting him go. WOW
