[News] Late For Work 10/6: Will Ravens Try To Talk Steve Smith Out Of Retirement?

59 posts in this topic

i really doubt Steve smith will be talked out of retirement. but if the ravens talk to him out of retirement it will good to have him back for another season and to help young WR grow and improve their skills from him.

Instead of talking SSS out of retirement, how about we get a STUD WR via trade/free agency next off-season.

We can't keep expecting the retiring vets to save our buts.  At some point a young guy is going to have to make

an impact for us. I see that w/ Mosely, Williams, and J. Smith on defense, but it's non-existent forever on offense.

Really cool for Crockett to wear that Sr shirt. It's cool that our young guys can show proper respect for the great players that we have that can mentor them.

Steve doesn't seem like a guy who's mind can be changed. I'm sure there isn't a soul in Ravens nation that wouldn't gladly welcome him back, it's just highly unlikely.

As far as crocketts tweet- sounds like he may know something. He could just be messing around, but I wouldn't be surprised one bit to see pitta suit up against Arizona for prime time. We will definitely need all the help we can get, bc winning that game (if we win the next 2, which is a big if at this point) would definitely put us right back in the mix. As I've stated all along, I've never counted him out for one second.

You can't try to "talk" someone into doing something that isn't in their heart. The kind of passion, dedication and sacrifice required to be effective in this game and to put you body on the line like they do ... you can't ask for that if it isn't ready to be given.

Could Steve change his mind? Sure, but we can't change it for him.

Wasn't it just this past offseason that Ozzie was trying to talk Steve Smith into retirement lol.

I wouldn't say that.  Ozzie basically told SSS to take his time on making a decision on if he was going to play the 2015 season.

Let's get Triple " S " a ring "THIS SEASON" would have gotten one last season if it wasn't for that very very very bad pass! "OWEN" and three to the Super Bowl! LETS GO!

Brandon Williams seems to be one of the new voices on this team. AND I LOVE IT!

Just yesterday doing a day at Dunkin' and then last night at the Purple Evening... The guy is so cool!

Baltimore Loves You Brandon!

The first inkling I heard that SSS could possibly reconsider retirement at the end of the year was an interview I heard with Justin Forsett a week or 2 ago. Although SSS seemed very clear that he will retire, I was shocked that Justin indicated that there may be even a remote possibility of delaying the retirement. Nothing is set in stone and SSS is totally free to stick to his decision or change his mind. Personally, I would be the ultimate "Happy Camper" to see SSS for another season.

The opening few paragraphs were about would they talk SSS out of retirement. Then the next few went on to say why it would never work. So why write that story at all? Is this even a real possibility that's being talked about?

Great OL, Great Weapons or a Great Running game. A great QB needs atleast ONE of these. I can't think of a single QB, who could make it without any of them. If the OL starts playing the way they did last year (doubt it, without Kubiak) then Joe can carry the team, but if he takes a beating he won't be able to find his below average weapons.

Brandon Williams has such a positive, fun loving and jovial personality. Brandon has that undeniable endearing quality that you can't help but love him. Jacoby Jones brought that lovable kind of spirit to the team also, which I miss. Most important, Brandon plays like a scary force of nature on the field. Love his comments throughout the games when wired up as well as the fun he adds to public service events.

With Suggs slowly but surely going out of the NFL (though hopefully not yet in a while), Brandon Williams is my best candidate to become that "vocal leader" of the D they need so badly. All the other options seem to be of the rather low-key kind (my favourite, BTW...): Daryl Smith, Mosley, Dumervil, Jernigan, Webb... I hope Williams will be on the "keep at any price" list once he hits free agency... It takes quite some talent and performance to make us forget about Ngata.

But one thing's for sure: with Ray Lewis, Reed and Ngata out and Suggs on the back end of his run, we'll need a new Commander - and possibly a younger one. Canty and Daryl Smith aren't gonna stay forever.

I really do not see Pitta coming back in week 6. Realistically, he may not be back at all. He may want to and the team may want him to, but the Doc's have the last say.

Schefter and some other "analysts" have this tendency to pull totally random thoughts out of their "behind part" and then immediately discuss it like it has any relevance, like it was anything more than just random thoughts in their head.

Well, they aren't. The motto for this kind of "journalism" was "find controversy and blow it up" for a long time, but now they won't even go into all the trouble of unearthing controversy: now it's the "make up controversy and blow it up".

I'm thinking they wait until after our bye week (week 8) to give him more time before he comes back.

There's a few dead presidents that could change his mind :D

Agreed 100 %. Haven't heard it as a reason or excuse yet but as good as the young ones are on our front 7, we do miss Ngata. Teams do not fear running against us without Suggs or Ngata, but in a very short time, they will realize that we have one of the best D-lines for years (Hopefully) to come.

Please don't use Ladarius Webb to run back punts. We don't need another injury to a starter.

Not really the type of thing where you are likely to get injured.

I believe webbs season ending injury in our super bowl season was on a punt return

or it might have been the 1 in his rookie season I forget

Doesn't matter to me. There's a false stigma that returning punts is like guaranteeing you to get injured.

If it was such a huge injury risk, I doubt the Steelers and Broncos would send Antonio Brown and Emmanuel Sanders back there to return kicks weekly, but they do.

I want a guy who is most likely to field the punt correctly. If thats Steve Smith or Lardarius Webb, so be it. We sent Ed Reed back there to field fair catches for like a decade.
