[News] Joe Flacco Reacts To Wide Receiver Losses

87 posts in this topic

You know anything about Crockett Gilmore? All I heard was a calf injury and no more details since. I will feel a WHOLE lot more confident if Gilmore is in the mix. Gilmore is capable of some very big plays and we could really use him out on the field asap.

I haven't heard any new news with regard to him.  The last I heard, they were stating that we'd be relying on Boyle and Williams.  both of whom looked really good Thursday night.

Ok, another article here said Camps injury not necessarily season ending. Here this article says "he's not coming back"...which is it? I hope the former and not the latter.

The Ravens put him on IR which means his season is done (He cannot come back even if he was healthy). I think an earlier article stated that this was just because the Ravens needed a roster spot. His injury may not have been season ending but the Ravens can't afford to roster Camp, SSS & Perriman while they wait. They would have had to cut a player to roster Givens, instead they IR'ed Camp. Teams only get one IR-designated to return player - the Ravens already used that on Urban.

Agree Boyle and Williams looked good. I haven't heard anything either way about Gilmore regarding playing in or ruled out of the Browns. Did you hear anything specific about the Browns game? I know Victor Cruz was out for 6 or 7 weeks with his calf injury, then he reinjured it so I hope it's a lot more minor than the Cruz injury.

Because he is "on the back nine" of his career...  He's old, hasn't been very good at holding on to the ball his past few years dropping several key passes....  AND has had mounting concussion issues...

For his own health and safety reasons, every team should just tell him no so he can retire.

"He'll have one week to get on the same page with newly acquired wide receiver Chris Givens, who joined the Ravens via trade after putting up 12 catches so far in 2015." --- Actually, he only has 1 catch so far in 2015. He has 12 catches since the start of the 2014 season.

Ozzie go get a dang WR! Like yesterday. No way you can run Aiken, and Brown out on the field as 1,2 WRs... Sign Nicks vet minimum better then both...or trade for Boldin,or someone..mid to late round pick..

We need help! Everyone is injured. Sr,Perriman, Givens will fill void of Campanaro

Wish I shared Flacco's optimism. Sure we got into field goal range with Sr. and Camp out, but it was tough sledding. Aiken, Brown and Waller are all guys who would be 3rd on other teams' depth charts at best. Sr. was balling out, but he can't carry a passing offense all by himself. And now that he's out for who knows how long I don't think our weapons scare any defense in the league. Our only hope is that the rushing offense in Pitt wasn't a mirage and it regains last year's form.

To clarify, it means that he would have been able to return from the injury this season, however we placed him on IR to clear some room for Givens, so he can't return this season even when he heals up. I think the coaches are increasingly frustrated with his injuries, as they could have cleared room some other way but instead put perhaps their 2nd best receiver on IR.

Givens looks more like a replacement for losing Torrey Smith instead of for SS Sr. or Campanaro.

yes...he'd "tower" an entire extra inch over Campanaro.

Negligible height difference aside, 6'0" is still on the short side for WRs.

Our run game better be good against the browns. With SSS out our WRs scare nodody. The only thing I hope is that Haden can't play, because without him their D looks soft and vulnerable. I watched them against the Chargers and Rivers had no real problems, even with an backup Oline. With that being said we got to admit that the Chargers probably have better WR right now and the Browns could just crowd the box and make us win through the air. Hopefully we can do that...

Glad to have a healthy speedster on the roster. Hope he can suit up and rock it Sunday! Also really curious which of our guys will be the one to step up. I refuse to acknowledge that Ravens should pass on this season. If adversity is the right fertilizer for a Ravens campaign for Super Bowl, consider the field well fertilized.

Ok so this means they have to activate my hubby Pitta in week 6 then? :)

A TE doesn't stretch the field the same way a WR can. Pitta is a tremendous player and his activation alone would be a morale boost to the Ravens, which in itself could help with wins. However, otherwise there is no major help in that as the three active TEs, Gilmore (who'll be back soon enough), Williams and Boyle are looking good! They made clutch catches and seem the right amount of tough. Not worried about our TE corps, with or without Pitta.

Honestly, when have we EVER had a strong receiving corps? The Torrey and Anquan combo combo was pretty good, but our offense was still based around the run game. The injuries hurt, but its not as if we just lost early 2000's Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne. Our offense rolls when we have a solid run game, and good clutch possession receiving. I think our young TE's are capable.

it always tickles me how fans on here tell Ozzie to go sign this guy or go sign that guy. Do they expect Ozzie to go "wow! (slaps forehead) I never thought of that. I'll get right on that" If there was a deal to be made that would benefit the Ravens, Ozzie would be all over it.

I would like to see the Jus utilized in the short pass and Brown to play well in the go routes. Everyone in Cleveland expects Aiken and the two rookie  TE's to be prime targets.  With Givens,he is new to our system and could be that magic on second and long yard situations.  Either way the run game has to work as Cleveland's D has to remain on the field for long periods .

I'll be happy with just someone who can catch and keep drives going... Pitta does that, whats the point of stretching the field if you cant catch?

Might want to get the facts first.

So IR return is different from pre season to regular season.  Dennis is due back at seven weeks from regular season game one.  Is that right?  Whats the rule?

That's true. However, don't know of a four TE set where we could utilize them all at once and I think that Gilmore, Williams and Boyle have all shown good hands. It's the receivers you're worried about and unless Pitta wants to play receiver, then all the good he does us is keep the other TEs fresh by being in the rotation. He's a benefit to what the Ravens are already doing well, not a solution to a problem.

Honestly, don't watch much football besides Ravens... How is the Brown's secondary (besides Haden) and Linebackers? Would our TE's have an advantage against them? I still believe we'll focus on establishing the run first and foremost but I hope to see Givens active (even if just a decoy to keep the safety deep)

So IR return is different from pre season to regular season.  Dennis is due back at seven weeks from regular season game one.  Is that right?  Whats the rule?

Pitta is on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) List, not IR.

Placing a player on PUP grants a roster exception for a player placed on it at the beginning of the regular season for up to 6 weeks at which point the player must either be rostered or placed on Injured Reserve. You can place as many playesr as you like on the PUP list up until the Season starts.

Only one player may be placed on Injured Reserve with a return designation. the return designation grants a roster exception for the player but prohibits the player from playing OR practicing with the team for 6 weeks. After the 6 weeks, they can return to practice, but they cant be activated until after another two weeks, so its a total of 8 games missed.

We already granted that designation to Brent Urban at the start of the season.
