Ravens Make the Playoffs? (Merged)

346 posts in this topic

Anything's possible! Its not how you start, but how you finish! But our schedule is brutal! And as of right now, we cant win a home game!

As of now the Ravens can't win "a" game!  They are on a 2 game losing streak after losing to the 1-3 Browns...at home and now the 1-4 49ers on the road!  This team doesn't have what it takes to make a playoff run!  They will fall to both the Cardinals and the Chargers in the upcoming games to be 1-7.  I see nothing from them saying otherwise!

After we lost to the 49ers, my last drop of hope was gone.......

We played like we didn't give a damn about winning......

We all know how good Ray was when he was commanding the team on the field, but didn't know how brutal it is without him.

We need this beat down so we can get high draft pick and hopefully we get a superstar on defense...

However, we need a better DC who makes call on the field and communicates with players face to face, not sitting up in the glass room and making calls through headphones....

After Arizona, we have 7 consecutive games against teams with a losing record.

Just sayin'...

Hey according to this website, our only goal now is to "limit the disappointment to one season". Sounds like we've packed it in to me.

Read the article, not just the headline.

and once again- eisenburg is his own person and this is just one mans opinion. His views do not represent those of harbaugh or the Ravens.

The articles on the Ravens site are supposed to have a fluffy, upbeat tone. I've had a similar writing job in the past (it was for the team's sponsor as opposed to the team itself, but it's all the same rubbish). Even when things are going bad, it's usually "the Ravens will learn from this" or "things aren't as bad as they look". To see a columnist giving up on the season this early is pretty telling about how things have gone so far.

not necessarily. Sometimes writers just have to be honest. Otherwise ppl would see right through that stuff. It's pretty bold but At 1-5 there's not really anyway to even pretend things are ok- it is what it is. I have some experience writing as well - not for a team or anything like that but I currently write a column for a newspaper. It's good to be positive but honesty trumps everything. However I see what your saying, it has gotten pretty doom and gloom around Ravens nation. Edited by January J

It is odd to me because I remember 2007 very distinctly. (it was a very bad season lol). That team still fought every game. This team, I'm not seeing it.

This. I've seen the team lose before, but these guys don't look like they care that much. Billick may have lost the team, but they almost always seemed to play hard for him.

I definitely don't see it from these guys whatsoever!  They don't have it in'em!  And as I keep saying; either you have it or you don't!  And imo based on what I'm seeing from them after 6 games....this Ravens squad (which I don't compare to any other years) don't have it!

I've also done newspaper work, and the great thing about that is that the paper often takes pride in having its own independent voice. If things are completely dysfunctional, they don't mind calling a team on it. Sites like baltimoreravens.com are different in that they pander to the fans and essentially get treated as a PR exercise by the team. That's why you can have a guy like Mike Preston talk about how XXX is a complete mess internally (such as our run game in 2013) and you won't get a whiff of it from this site or any other team's official site.

Even when I wrote for this other site, the team was having its worst season in 10 years but I still had to find an upbeat angle on the losses. I even wrote a piece defending the under-fire coach one week and it got rejected for being too negative.

Yeah I can see that. I've noticed this site doing a little bit of both but they do try to always end with a positive or "silver lining". For example In some of the final drive videos you will see garret downing start off by saying how disappointing the season has been but then follow it with by trying to find a positive such as Brandon Williams collapsing the line or Steve smith doing the peewee Herman dance.

We may actually make the playoffs, and if we do it might not have anything to do with us being that good. The AFC might just be that bad.

7-9 might honestly be good enough for a wildcard.

Don't think we get 7 wins though.

I still doubt 7-9 would make it. You're right that our team needs to show us something different than what we've seen before we can predict that kind of turnaround. I'm just saying there is still a small reason to hope.

So hear me out...

Our chances of making the playoffs are slim. However, the rest of the AFC is losing, keeping us close in the wild card race.

The Jets, Steelers, Bills, Texans, Colts, Titans, Chargers, and Browns all lost today. If we were to win tomorrow, here's the Wild card standings...

5th Seed: Jets (4-2)

6th Seed: Steelers (4-3)

7. Dolphins, Raiders (3-3)

9. Bills. (3-4)

10. Chiefs, Browns, Texans, Jaguars, Chargers, Ravens (2-5).

We'd be 2 games back... The AFC woes are keeping in this thing. If by some miracle we start playing the way we should, and finish games, we have a shot! I'm not counting us out just yet, but a loss tomorrow against the tough cardinals would be a big blow.

I like your optimism, but we would still be behind the Browns and Raiders due to head to head losses...unless there was a three way tie then the head to head goes out the window. And we still play the Jags and Chargers I believe. There is still slim hope, but nothing to indicate they will live up to that hope since every loss since our last win was hopeful too.

We still play the Dolphins, Jaguars, Chiefs, and Chargers, so we could get head to head on them. We can beat the Browns so head to head won't matter there. If we beat the Steelers again, we get head to head on them. The raiders keep the head to head though. Let's just hope we learn to finish, starting tomorrow if we pull off the upset. We need it lol

Playoffs? Let's win a game sometime this month first.

Even if we survive what I think will be an epic game tomorrow night, we're still far behind some very talented teams in the race. It's over. We are playing for pride from here on out

We would have to win out at home in order to have a realistic shot. I think the offense can do its job, but this defense is just dreadful.

The BEST possible outcome for this season is a 8-8 record, 8-8 teams don't deserve to be in the playoffs. I'd rather get into the playoffs off of merit, no because every other team is awful. If we make the playoffs this year the only thing we'd get out of it would be an embarrassing blowout and a "one and done Bengals" like playoff performance. And we'd lose out on a good pick.

Only 2 games behind the Steelers who have a tough road ahead. The Jets may run away with the 5th seed, their schedule isn't super difficult. It's not over just yet. It's a lot of ifs, but the possibility exists, IF we win tomorrow. If we lose, we have to win out lol
