Ravens Make the Playoffs? (Merged)

Right, those teams were playing so well that they allowed us to have a chance after "sucking for 3/4 of the game and having 1 or 2 nice drives." They must be world beaters.

If you didn't see the numerous mistakes and problems that all the teams we faced had, then you are really tunnel-visioned. It wasn't just the Steelers who made mistakes all over the place against us. The Broncos offense was crawling on their face, and Peyton did his best to give us the game himself. We scored double digits in three of the four quarters against the Raiders defense. The Bengals made so many poor calls and plays it is unthinkable that they were able to pull it together for those big plays at the end and still win.

We have played poorly, yes, but for you to think we were the only team that deserved to lose those games is ridiculous. Had we won, we would not have to apologize to anyone.

peyton missed 2 wide open deep throws, that was the extent of them "sucking". in a day full of 3 and outs we pulled one strong drive and failed to capitalize,

the raiders was a shootout, no arguments there, although our defense has no business looking worse than theirs.

the bengals scoring a TD in each of the first 2 quarters while holding us to no points isnt them sucking just as badly as us, it was a pretty one sided game until the strip sack with 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter, that means for 54 minutes we mustered up one score on a desperate 4th and 10 and missed tackle(the fact that were going for it on 4th and 10 in the 3rd quarter speaks volumes as well), it became a mistake filled shootout from BOTH teams from the second we scored that defensive TD, but before that the bengals had made us look pretty bad, couldnt move the ball, couldnt score, couldnt get off the field consistently, missed a FG, penalties every other snap, missed tackles, blown assignments, if you think we didnt look bad against the bengals then i dont know what you were watching.

I thought the SSS score came on a 4th and 5 ? Not that it really makes a difference....

Yeah I am still holding out some hope that we can do something but it frankly isn't likely at this point. A win against Cleveland would help a good amount as would a win against San Fran but the way we are playing at times, neither game is going to be easy.

ur probably right, but yea it doesnt really matter. our efforts have been very unimpressive and we deserved to lose all of those games except oakland, if we managed to win, i would be saying "we didnt deserve that win but ill take it".

my point is, this team has no shown us anything to give us faith for the rest of the season, and with players continuing to drop like flies it strips our hopes even more.

well the rest of the AFC is pretty bad as well so yeah we have a shot to make it.

right now only the pats , broncos and bengals seems like locks.

i expect the jets to loose some games even though they are 3-1

12 of 16 AFC teams are @ .500 or below lol.

None of this has anything to do with what I was saying. You seem to be reading whatever you want, disregarding the actual words that I use. I clearly stated, several times, that we did look bad, so I have nothing further here.

I see it the same exact way. We are one game out of the playoffs right now, which is crazy.

you also stated that the other teams looked just as bad as us, which is just flat out false. thats the point i was making in those posts. if you missed the obvious point after reading a wall of text well im sorry.

I said the other teams looked bad. You implied the rest. I believe we have yet to play a good game (Oak was closest), but we also have yet to play a team that has played a good game (again, Oak was closest). I'm saying if we won any of the games we lost, the other teams would be just as responsible for blowing those games as we turned out to be. It wasn't divine intervention that led to us having a chance to win.

We've got to get to 3-3 before I can even start thinking about this. I'm optimistic we can take the next couple games, but it is by no means a given. I feel like we need to be 4-4 heading into the bye or we're going to have a hard time getting in.

Yes, the AFC is weak, but we have to play better.

We are really behind the 8 ball at the moment. One of the biggest tie breakers is the conference record. We are 1-3 as of now in the conference. We can afford to lose to a couple NFC teams but we can't afford to lose more than 1-2 more AFC.

Yet to be seen, if we go on a winning streak then you are wrong, if we end bombing then you are right

I meant before we started to lose......I would think it matters because 9 wins you have a short hill to climb....probably can make the dance with one more win definitely with 2 more. Starting 4 back is a tall task especially when all loses have been to AFC teams.

4 back? Check the standings. We're one back of the final playoff spot.

Can we win a few more games, at least our 2nd one, before we even mention the wordl playoffs?

Thank you.

I told someone there wasn't much of a difference, now, between 1-3 and 2-2, and got laughed at. The AFC is awful, but the best chance we have is at a WC spot. There's also the fact we play the other teams competing for the same spot.

All that helps. You're right that it's a bummer the Bengals are off to such a hot start, but let's see them play a few more division games before we crown them. As of right now, though, what team is really in better shape than us for WC2? Maybe the Bills? The Raiders? I'll take the odds against those two. It could be the Chargers, but we can take care of them ourselves.

My biggest concern quiet honestly is with the defense. Offense will be fine once the OL gets back to health and into game-mode and we get our weapons back, hopefully the scope does Perriman wonders.

I think we need a Free Safety. A coverage one at that. Kendrick Lewis hasn't been good. Poor coverage, missed tackles, and was even poor in the run game against Pitt. He's become a liability at times. I don't know what you can do if you can't cover or defend against the run as a safety. I hope he picks up the play or we give Brooks some snaps, wouldn't mind that though he didn't fare well compared to Lewis in limited snaps. I believe FS is the biggest hole on the defense, I wouldn't mind if we made a move though that's doubtful or began to look towards Terrence Brooks.

I believe our CBs will be fine, I like the group we have. Jimmy and Webb just need to return to form. Love what I saw from Will Davis last game and Arrington isn't a superstar but hey, he's not awful.

The Raiders will probably be the biggest obstacle. They're playing better right now, and the Ravens have to have a better record than them since they have the tie breaker.

except our opponents didn't suck 3/4 of a game away like we did. We suck extremely bad for a long time, have a nice chain of defensive stands, get 1 or 2 nice drives for some false hope, and promptly fall apart once again. It's not like we're hanging around in shootouts, we explode for a few drives and have been completely incompetent at all other points of our games.

Oakland was a shootout. I agree with you almost entirely. This team has played beyond poor for all four games...I mean flat out stunk. And yet they are not a team that is easily beaten. No one has demolished them to the point that a game was out of hand despite the fact that we look terrible, generally speaking.

I don't know that that means anything but I find it curious.

Finally someone is speaking my language, we got so much talent at the first two levels its almost scary how much potential we have there. Ever since ed reed left, i have been saying this for years, the free safety position has been the most glaring hole, you got to shore up the spine before you do anything else. Look how teams have beat us the last two years. The fact they went over the top or over the middle for 20 or 30 plus yards, ed reed never allowed that crap when he was here.

Free Safety play has been poor since Ed left. I really think we need to get some help there. Thats the missing piece of the secondary quiet honestly.

I just don't see them sticking around for the entire run. They'll fall off, but even if they don't, they could help us by beating teams like SD, KC, Pitt, and whoever they play between the Jets and Bills.

I disagree, I have to go with San Diego. I don't think Oakland can take on their whole division, I think they'll have trouble with Denver, KC and San Diego, not to mention they also have some tough games to play this season against other teams.

I tend to agree, which makes that game Halloween weekend when we host the Bolts pretty big.

I agree on this point as well. We can never expect anything even remotely close to Ed ... he's a once in a lifetime type player. But we have to be able to do better than the sequence of Huff, Elam, Stewart and Lewis. Actually, it seems like you can't even say Lewis now ... looks like Hill is ending up in that spot frequently and Hill that is just not where Hill will excel.

I've said this and have gotten some feedback about how this is one of the weakest positions league-wide, as colleges just aren't turning out guys that can fill the role. That may be, but we have to do better than what we have.

people predicting the raiders just fall off but theres no reasoning behind it, they are a young and inexperienced team, seems to me like they should get better as the season progresses and they begin to gain chemistry and see how to win as a team, i dont see any reason to think they will just fall off. im one of the few making the bold prediction that they go to the playoffs as the 6th seed, i think we are gonna fall out of the 6th seed because of the head to head tiebreaker with oakland
